Purpose of Job
Sasol Secunda is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented QA/QC Specialist to oversee Quality Assurance and Quality Control for all Access (Scaffolding), Insulation (Hot & Cold), and Protective Coatings activities. In this critical role, you will serve as the gatekeeper of technical excellence, ensuring that all AIP work is executed in full compliance with Sasol’s stringent safety, operational, and technical standards. You will work collaboratively with service providers and maintenance teams to drive reliability, cost-effectiveness, and a zero-defect culture.
To develop, implement, and manage robust QA/QC systems for AIP scopes, ensuring full compliance with Sasol’s Work Management Process, safety protocols, and technical specifications. This is achieved through proactive planning, rigorous inspections, systematic audits, and the enforcement of preventative quality measures.
Key Accountabilities
Quality Planning & Execution
- Develop, review, and implement Quality Control Plans (QCPs) and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) for all AIP work packages.
- Establish and maintain comprehensive "Item Lists" for inspection and testing activities.
Inspection & Compliance
- Conduct hands-on quality inspections and surveillance audits for scaffold erection, insulation application (hot/cold), and protective coating systems.
- Verify that all materials, workmanship, and final installations conform to approved drawings, safety standards, and technical specifications (e.g., NACE, ISO, SANS).
Non-Conformance & Corrective Action
- Lead the identification, documentation, and resolution of non-conformances (NCRs) using structured root cause analysis.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams and contractors to implement effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate, auditable QA/QC records, including inspection reports, material certifications, and logbooks.

Safety Integration
- Support safety management by ensuring that quality processes directly reinforce HSI standards (e.g., scaffold tagging, coating safety data sheets, insulation fire hazards).

Stakeholder & Customer Relations
- Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with internal maintenance teams, external service providers, and Sasol project stakeholders.

Formal Education

Purpose of Job
Support electricity generation through maintenance on 18 stationary marine type internal combustion engines, utilizing natural gas as fuel and generating electricity by means of a directly coupled generator.
Maintenance is conducted as per an outage plan and breakdowns, whilst adhering to Sasol codes and procedures. Maintenance activities can include, but is not limited to maintenance on piston and connecting rod assemblies, lube oil pumps, cylinder heads, turbos, etc, as per an agreed upon schedule.
The successful candidate will directly report to the mechanical maintenance foreman, working together with other mechanical artisans. The position is permanent at the SGEPP site, with no traveling or shift work required. Standby duties will be required as per set schedule. Position may require overtime in incidents of plant upsets, or major engine overhauls.

FUNCTIONAL OUTPUTS
- Overhaul of Wärtsilä 20V34SG gas engines as per Quality control plan, together with an execution team.
- Overhaul of Napier 347 marine turbos, together with an execution team
- Service and repair of individual engine components, as per agreed quality control plan and schedule

- Replacement of damaged parts that are beyond repair
- Faultfinding and related repairs on gas systems and components.

Purpose of Job
Process engineering support for the Gas loop plants (ATR, Rectisol, Ammonia, Fuel gas blending) to protect and improve production volumes, ensure quality and efficiency performance targets are met, support plant asset health and enable plant sustainability with regards to environmental compliance through monitoring, troubleshooting, improvement initiatives and project development.
Key Accountabilities
Supports the Process Engineering Lead with respect to meeting requirements for the health of the Gas loop plants. Specific contributions required include but are not limited to:
- Develop technology knowledge of the specific Gas loop plants, ATR, Rectisol and Ammonia.
- Develop and implement plant monitoring systems to monitor and proactively identify potential deviations and risk to production volumes, product quality and equipment integrity. Ensuring effective communication to all parties concerned and propose resolutions as required.
- Problem solving and idea generation on equipment/unit operation.
- Develop and execute process engineering related improvement plan roadmaps, with focus areas on production volumes, product quality, environmental and safety impact, energy efficiency and feedstock efficiency. The focus will be on short term Volume Protection Plans and longer-term Continuous Improvement Plans with support from internal engineering resources, Small Projects and/or Large Projects P&E resources as well as Licensor input.
- Initiate modifications and capital expenditure proposals.
- Carry initiated modifications through the design, implementation and commissioning phases right up to beneficial operation within business specified schedules and cost.
- Perform technical calculations during the design phase of a project or during problem solving activities. When required locate and select appropriate recognized standards and guidelines when undertaking calculations
- Ensure compliance with the MOC (Management of Change) system, Capital and project business systems (Project execution model, Sciforma, ARC, etc.).
- Play a leadership role to junior members in the team.
- Contribute to the Capital budgeting process and the 10-year Rolling Capital Plan.
- Support shutdown planning and execution. Ensure process integrity of equipment is restored, and critical projects are incorporated in shutdown planning and executed safely within project timeline. Recommend improvement opportunities with regard to plant turnarounds, commissioning and startup.
- Provide process engineering support and input during project execution through management of process interfaces between Operations, P&E, R&T and/or Licensors.
- Apply Process Engineering standards and best practices, aligned to lessons learnt. Provide quality process engineering input to work allocated and ensuring process engineering governance is followed.
- Involvement/leading of incident investigations and unusual occurrences.
- Review and/or develop plant specific technical documentation like operating envelopes, mass and energy balances, baseline assessments, MFDs, operating/training manuals, process simulations, design manuals, and any other technical documentation.
- Lead and/or assist work efforts and projects/assignments with substantial business impacts and complex technical challenges, value chain.
