ASSISTANT PORTFOLIO MANAGER (GLOBAL) - MULTI-MANAGEMENT PUBLIC MARKETS 

• *Job Grade: E1-E2 

• Ref: APMG240626 

• Salary: All-inclusive remuneration package negotiable 

• Centre: Public Investment Corporation, Pretoria 

 

Purpose of the role: 

To assist in the manager selection and portfolio construction processes in the allocated asset class (es) and providing a high level of support in the monitoring of external managers. 

 

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications and Experience: 

• B Com (Hons) or BSc (Hons) degree in Financial Management 

• At least 6-9 years post qualification experience in investments and economic knowledge 

• At least 5 years of Multi-manager Funds experience 

• At least 3 years’ experience in Global Strategies 

• RE 5 or to be completed within 6 months of employment 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Masters, CFA or CA (SA) 

 

Minimum Technical/Core Skill Requirement 

• Investment & Economic knowledge 

• Experience with investment, financial analysis and manager research 

• Excellent quantitative skills (including excel and other risk tools) 

• Experience with a risk/optimisation model, e.g. MSCI Barra/Bloomberg/Factset 

• Ability to interpret and make recommendations on manager research and analysis 

• Extensive knowledge of financial markets/instruments/regulations, economic theories and relationships, valuation tools. 

• Thorough understanding of investment managers’ investment disciplines and their expected portfolio characteristics and investment activities 

 

Duties:

• Assist in overseeing investment portfolios for clients or organizations 

• Monitor developments in the financial markets to maintain an understanding of current and anticipated trends and how they may affect client portfolios. 

• Remain informed, and keep the team informed, about current market developments and impact on external manager portfolios. 

• Monitor and analyse existing managers’ w.r.t qualitative and quantitative factors 

• Produce Risk and Return analysis of existing managers and peer groups 

• Produce reports for clients and internal committees, i.e. Portfolio Management Committee and Investment Committee 

• Quantitative analysis of managers relative to stated benchmarks and peer groups

• Researching and evaluating investment strategies, ideas and concepts

INVESTMENT ANALYST: EARLY-STAGE FUND (VENTURE CAPITAL) 

• Job Grade: C3 – D3 

• Ref: INVAES01

Purpose of the role: 

To support the Fund Principal and Associate Fund Principal across the investment lifecycle by evaluating early-stage and venture capital opportunities, preparing investment recommendations, supporting transaction execution and contributing to portfolio monitoring and reporting. 

 

Requirements:

Minimum qualifications 

• Bachelor’s degree in commerce (finance, investments, accounting) or equivalent qualification 

• 2 - 4 years investment experience. Venture Capital, Private Equity, Multi-manager experience would be advantageous 

• Knowledge of the early-stage ecosystem and venture capital market 

• FAIS RE 05 Certificate or it must be obtained within 6 months of employment 

• Knowledge of finance-related regulations and legislation, including the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE), and Preferential Procurement Policy Framework Act (PPPFA). 

Preferred qualifications 

Postgraduate qualification (Hons, Masters, MBA, etc), CFA, CA(SA), CAIA would be advantageous 

 

Duties:

• Preparation of deal screening and investment reports for investment opportunities 

• Assist the team in complying with the requirements of each stage of the investment process 

• Support the planning and coordination of commercial, financial, legal, technical, environmental, social and governance due diligence on potential investment opportunities, including tracking information requests, findings and required mitigations. 

• Assist the team with relevant research and information in structuring and pricing of transactions 

• Assist the team in preparing term sheets 

• Assist the team in preparation of investment reports for the Investment Committee 

• Assist the team in the implementation and disbursement process 

• Assist the team in the handover of approved transactions to various divisions, including portfolio management 

• Support ongoing monitoring of direct investments and fund investments, including the review of quarterly reports, financial and impact performance, valuations, material risks, compliance with investment terms and mandates, and preparation of internal and client reporting.
