ASSISTANT PORTFOLIO MANAGER - REST OF AFRICA 

Salary: All-inclusive remuneration package negotiable

Purpose of the role: 

To carry out in-house research, supply Head of Equities and Portfolio Manager with listed security buy and sell recommendations for the Rest of Africa portfolio and to enable PIC to meet its investment targets. To also assist with the maintenance of the houseview in as far as it relates to the Rest of Africa portfolio and to supervise analysts. To also formulate the house view on different countries and sectors across Africa and to maintain it over time. 

 

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications & Experience: 

·       B Degree in Commerce, Finance or Science 

·       At least 5-7 years relevant experience earned in a investment management/banking/management consulting environment 

 

Preferred Qualifications & Experience: 

·       Post graduate degree in commerce, finance, or science 

·       Masters (MBA, MCom, MSc) degree 

·       Over 10 years of relevant experience 

 

Professional Body/Association (Preferred): 

·       CFA or similar 

 

Minimum Technical/Experience Requirement: 

·       Understanding of macro-economic factors to the extent it relates to currencies and can guide country allocations and risk management 

·       A deep understanding of capital markets in the Rest of Africa and the various drivers 

·       Understanding of multiple valuation methodologies and their positives/negatives 

·       Security-specific research 

·       Capital market research 

·       Maintain, develop, and update fundamental valuation models 

 

Duties:

·       Country allocation and security recommendations with detailed investment thesis to develop and customize valuation models. Travel is an integral part of this process. 

·       Detailed presentation of these recommendations to both the Portfolio Manager as well as the Internal Listed Equities team 

·       Awareness of portfolio/security exposures with continuous monitoring and assisting the Portfolio Manager in matching exposures with valuations 

·       Provision of investment thesis, valuations, industry and company information on a timely basis

Purpose of the role:

·       CFA or CA would be advantageous 

·       Investment banking, private equity or investment management research experience 

 

Professional Body/Association (Preferred): 

·       CFA or similar 

 

Minimum Technical/Experience Requirement:

·       Ability to travel the Rest of Africa as part of research process 

·       Maintain, develop, and update fundamental equity models 

 

Duties:

·       Tracking and highlighting relevant key macro-economic events that impact the portfolio 

·       Formulation of rest of Africa house view, together with the Rest of Africa team 

·       Security trade recommendations with detailed investment thesis 

·       Detailed presentation of these recommendations to both the Portfolio Manager as well as the Internal Listed Equities team 

·       Design and maintain valuation models 

·       Awareness of portfolio exposures 

·       Timely maintenance of valuation models to factor in new market information 

·       Provision of investment theses, valuations, industry and company information 

·       Provision of timely commentary – dissemination of real time news-flow
