FUND PRINCIPAL – UNLISTED INVESTMENTS (INFRASTRUCTURE)

Job Grade: E4 – F1

Purpose of the role:

To lead PIC’s infrastructure investment portfolio in line with client mandates. The Fund Principal is accountable for developing the investment strategy, originating and executing investments, and managing assets through to exit or maturity. The role combines financial returns with measurable infrastructure and developmental outcomes.

Requirements:

· An honours degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Engineering, Law or a related field. A relevant postgraduate qualification or professional designation is advantageous.

· At least 10 years investment experience, including substantial experience in infrastructure investing or project finance and experience leading investment teams.

· A demonstrated track record of originating, executing and managing infrastructure investments across the investment life cycle.

· Experience assessing project bankability and structuring equity, debt or blended financing for infrastructure assets.

· Strong financial modelling, valuation, commercial due diligence and investment risk assessment skills.

· Working knowledge of infrastructure contracts, including concessions, construction agreements, off take arrangements and financing documents.

· Experience managing infrastructure assets after financial close, including performance monitoring, shareholder oversight, value creation, restructuring and exits.

· Understanding of applicable client mandates, investment governance and regulatory requirements.

Duties:

· Develop and implement an infrastructure investment strategy aligned with PIC’s client mandates, return requirements and risk limits.

· Build a pipeline of direct investments, co-investments and fund opportunities across relevant infrastructure sectors.

· Lead sourcing screening, commercial assessment, due diligence, valuation, structuring, negotiation and approval of investments.

· Assess project bankability, including demand, construction, operating, regulatory, environmental, social, funding and counterparty risks.

· Structure equity, debt and other appropriate instruments, with clear allocation of risks and a credible path to the required return.

· Own investment recommendations and present proposals to PIC’s governance committees and clients where required.

· Lead execution through documentation, satisfaction of conditions precedent, financial close and disbursement.

· Take ownership of allocated infrastructure assets following a documented portfolio diagnostic. Set asset plans, monitor performance and intervene where investments fall behind plan.

· Oversee shareholder rights, board representation, refinancing, restructuring and exits to protect and realise investment value.

· Coordinate specialist and assurance input.

· Lead, coach and develop the infrastructure investment team; manage external advisers and service providers.

Purpose of the role:

To lead PIC’s SME intermediaries investment portfolio from origination through to exit or maturity. The Fund Principal sources and executes investments in capable intermediaries, then oversees their performance and deployment of capital to SMEs. The role is accountable for financial returns, portfolio risk and measurable developmental outcomes in line with client mandates.

Requirements:

· An honours degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Engineering, Law or a related field. A relevant postgraduate qualification or professional designation is advantageous.

· At least 10 years’ relevant investment experience, including substantial experience in SME finance, financial intermediaries, and experience leading investment teams.

· A demonstrated track record of proactively sourcing intermediary partnerships and investment opportunities that can expand access to finance for SMEs.

· Experience assessing and selecting intermediaries, including their investment strategy, management team, governance, underwriting standards, financial performance and ability to reach the intended SME market.

· Strong financial modelling, credit analysis, valuation, due diligence and investment structuring skills, including the ability to assess risk and returns at both intermediary and underlying SME portfolio level.

· Experience negotiating investment terms and setting appropriate eligibility criteria, reporting requirements and performance measures for intermediaries.

· A track record of managing intermediary investments after approval, including monitoring deployment, portfolio quality, developmental outcomes, covenant compliance and remedial action.

· Understanding of applicable client mandates, investment governance and regulatory requirements.

Duties:

· Develop and implement an investment strategy for financing SMEs through intermediaries, aligned with PIC’s client mandates, return requirements and developmental objectives.

· Proactively source SME lenders and other intermediaries; build a pipeline of opportunities and partnerships.

· Assess each intermediary’s ability to reach the intended SME market, deploy capital responsibly and generate sustainable risk adjusted returns.

· Lead due diligence on the intermediary’s management team, governance, financial position, underwriting practices, systems, funding model and underlying SME portfolio.

· Structure and negotiate investments, including pricing, eligibility criteria, concentration limits, covenants, reporting obligations and remedies for underperformance.

· Own the investment case and present recommendations to the relevant approval committees.

· Lead transactions through approval, documentation, satisfaction of conditions precedent and disbursement.

· Take ownership of allocated investments following a portfolio diagnostic, and maintain an asset plan for each intermediary.

· Monitor deployment to SMEs, portfolio quality, financial performance and developmental outcomes. Intervene early where performance falls behind plan.

· Lead restructurings, follow-on investments, refinancing and exits where appropriate to protect and realise value.

· Manage relationships with intermediaries and co-investors, while holding intermediaries accountable for agreed investment and reporting obligations.

· Lead and develop the investment team, coordinate specialist input and remain accountable for investment decisions and portfolio risks throughout the investment life cycle..
