CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: APPOINTMENT OF PRIMARY AND ALTERNATE MEMBERS TO THE HUMAN RESOURCE GOVERNANCE COMMITTEE (HRGC)   

The National Consumer Tribunal, a Schedule 3A public entity, invites suitably qualified and experienced individuals to serve as independent members of its Human Resource Governance Committee. The Tribunal was established in 2006 under section 26(1) of the National Credit Act. We are an independent adjudicative body with jurisdiction throughout the Republic. Our mandate is to adjudicate on consumer and consumer-credit related matters in terms of the National Credit Act and the Consumer Protection Act.

 

Purpose of the committee

The committee provides independent oversight and advisory support to the Executive Chairperson on matters relating to human resource governance, risk management, internal controls, ethics, and compliance. The committee plays a critical role in ensuring sound human resource practices aligned with legislative requirements and good governance principles. Qualified and interested individuals who are committed to advancing good governance in a public entity are encouraged to apply.

 

Key responsibilities

Committee members will be expected to:

  • Provide oversight on HR governance, policies, systems, and practices
  • Monitor HR-related risks, fraud prevention, and ethical conduct
  • Contribute to effective corporate governance in line with the King Code
  • Provide oversight in respect of social and ethical matters.

 

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • A postgraduate qualification in Human Resources or a related field
  • Membership of a recognised professional body (advantageous)
  • 15 – 18 years’ senior or executive level experience in Human Resources
  • Proven experience serving on governance or oversight committees
  • Strong understanding of corporate governance, risk management, and internal controls
  • Sound knowledge of public entities and regulatory frameworks
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills
  • High levels of integrity, independence, and objectivity, and
  • Sufficient time to attend and actively participate in committee meetings.

 

 

 

Remuneration: Remuneration will be based on the hourly tariffs published annually by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants in conjunction with the Auditor-General of South Africa, referred to as the AG rates.

  • Committee members may not serve more than three terms.
  • Appointments are made in accordance with applicable governance and regulatory requirements.
