MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Grade 12

• Diploma or Degree (NQF 7) in Hospitality Management, Food and Beverage Management, Hotel Management, Business Management or related field.

• Minimum 5 to 7 years’ relevant managerial experience in food and beverage / hospitality management preferably within a theatre, hotel, restaurant, entertainment, conference or large-scale events environment.

• At least 2 years’ experience in a senior management position in the hospitality industry

PRIMARY FUNCTION

To manage and oversee the organization’s food and beverage operations, hospitality services and related commercial activities, ensuring efficient service delivery, financial sustainability, regulatory compliance and exceptional customer service delivery to patrons, artists, guests, and stakeholders across theatre venues and events. The role oversees all internal and external catering, theatre bar services, hospitality functions venues, and concession operations, while maximizing revenue, maintaining quality standards, ensuring regulatory compliance, and enhancing the overall hospitality experience. The role contributes to Joburg Theatre's reputation as a premier arts and entertainment venue by delivering high-quality hospitality services that support performances, events, conferences, and special productions.

 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

• Manage the day-to-day food and beverage operations across designated theatre venues and hospitality areas, both internal and external events.

• Ensure efficient and professional delivery of food and beverage services before, during and after performances and events.

• Develop operational standards, procedures and service protocols.

• Coordinate food and beverage requirements for productions, events, conferences and special functions.

• Ensure adequate staffing, equipment, stock and resources are available for scheduled activities.

• Ensure consistent and high-quality service across all hospitality outlets.

• Manage and resolve valid complaints from stakeholders

• Evaluate sub-ordinates by means of observation, verbal communication evaluations

• Address deviations with staff from set standards

• Enforce discipline by addressing unacceptable behavior

• Ensure skills audit for staff and assessment of staff training needs are done, as well as that individual learning plans ILP’s are submitted

• Complete performance assessment within directorate

• Manage staff grievance/counselling and disciplinary matter

• Manage weekly financial targets for all departments

• Conduct a regular check on the POS operating system on the menu prices and ensure that all price increases are conducted timeously against any price increases incurred

• Ensure that profit margins are maintained, agreed costs are not exceeded through effective control systems, including issuing against dockets, sales analysis, menu costing and cash checks

• Provide weekly turnover vs payroll report to senior management

• Compile a yearly marketing plan for each department in conjunction with the manager and implementation of this plan in all areas with relevant manager

• Liaise directly with all suppliers to ensure that promotions are efficiently supported throughout their term

• Supervise the banqueting department in terms of increasing sales figures

• Compile a competitive analysis every six months and gather information on all food and beverage aspects

• Conduct regular operation equipment stock takes to ensure breakages are recorded and kept to a minimum

• Conduct full assets stock take of all equipment within the department

• Supervise all areas to maintain the correct par levels for all stock items eliminating stock shortages and stock waste

• Maintain all prices on the POS system and adjustments in accordance with the price increases.

PRIMARY FUNCTION

To oversee end-to-end financial operations, including financial planning and analysis, budgeting, cash flow management, and balance sheet reconciliations. Minimum Requirements

Primary Function 

To provide specialised electrical maintenance and technical support across the theatre buildings, venues and associated facilities. Responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable and continuous operation of electrical infrastructure and building services, with particular emphasis on maintaining electrical systems that support theatre productions, performances, rehearsals, events, offices and public areas. 

 

Key Performance Areas: 

·       Conduct planned, preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical installations and building electrical infrastructure. 

·       Inspect, maintain, test and repair electrical distribution boards, switchgear, cabling, lighting systems, power outlets and associated equipment. 

·       Diagnose electrical faults and implement appropriate corrective measures. 

·       Maintain electrical systems serving auditoriums, stages, backstage areas, workshops, offices, public spaces, foyers and other theatre facilities 

·       Perform Statutory and Ad hoc inspection of all electrical equipment and power generator systems and institute necessary action in the event of shortcomings 

·       Ensure reliable service of the stage technical requirements, inclusive of high voltage electrical fault detection and fault repair 

·       Maintain and ensure electrical services, inclusive of fault detection and fault repair in respect of air-conditioning and electricity 

·       Diagnose equipment malfunctions and repair and adjust using the necessary test equipment, instruments and other tools of trade 

·       Participate in standby, after-hours, weekend and public holiday call-outs, as required by theatre operational demands. 

·       Maintain all motors, transformers and electrical controllers attached to large power systems 

·       Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and SHEQ requirements 

·       Ensure that the services delivered to the building in respect of electricity and air-supply are according to NOSA standards and maintained according to those standards 

·       Ensure monthly documentation of maintaining and cleaning of filters, electrical distribution boards and fan belts of Air Handling Unit 4 

·       Ensure monthly documentation for the maintaining, cleaning of the LT Room, standby generator, control panel of the standby generator, checking and filling the diesel fuel to acceptable levels 

·       Ensure the documentation of Weekly Maintenance Records 

·       Ensure that all the electrical systems on all machinery are maintained and comply with the Machinery’s Act and SANS 10142 

·       Use necessary computer software to fault find stage machinery control problems

PRIMARY FUNCTION

To provide strategic and operational leadership in the management of the organisation’s buildings, facilities, engineering infrastructure, machinery, plant, utilities and critical technical services, ensuring that all facilities remain safe, compliant, reliable, fit for purpose and continuously available to support theatre operations. The incumbent will have overall responsibility for the effective management and supervision of machinery and engineering systems and will be formally designated as the organisation’s GMR 2 Competent Person, subject to meeting and maintaining all applicable statutory competency requirements. The position is critical to ensuring occupational health and safety, statutory compliance, business continuity, infrastructure reliability and uninterrupted theatre operations, including performances, events and public activities.

 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

• Assume formal responsibility as the organisation’s designated GMR 2 Competent Person, in accordance with applicable legislation.

• Ensure the safe supervision, operation, maintenance and management of machinery and engineering plants.

• Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, General Machinery Regulations and other applicable statutory requirements.

• Maintain appropriate statutory records, registers, inspections, certificates and reports.

• Monitor machinery-related risks and ensure that appropriate corrective and preventative measures are implemented.

• Identify infrastructure risks and develop appropriate mitigation and replacement strategies.

• Provide technical advice to management on machinery, plant, infrastructure and engineering risks.

• Oversee the management and maintenance of critical mechanical and electrical plant and machinery.

• Oversee the operation, maintenance and testing of generators and associated infrastructure.

• Ensure that critical plant and machinery are appropriately maintained and available for theatre operations.

• Investigate machinery failures and implement corrective action to minimise operational disruption.

• Ensure appropriate emergency response and contingency arrangements for infrastructure failures.

• Responsible for preventative maintenance and the general appearance and maintenance of the building and its surroundings

• Ensure that the services delivered to the building in respect of water, electricity and air supply are according to NOSA standards and maintained according to those Standards

• Oversee maintenance and repairs of electric motors, electrical installations and equipment, stage machinery control circuits, emergency generators, A.E.G. P.L.C, AC and DC Drivers, AC and DC Motors, Submersible pumps – 3ph Substation switchgear, 110V Emergency lighting, 380V Standby Generator and Knowledge of Air-conditioning control panels.

• Provide technical oversight of building, facilities and engineering projects.

• Manage or oversee contractors, consultants and service providers.

• Ensure that projects are delivered within approved scope, budget, quality and time requirements.

• Review technical specifications and provide professional input into infrastructure projects.

• Ensure that completed projects comply with applicable statutory and operational requirements
