INTERNSHIP POSITIONS

 

An internship programme is an intervention by Joburg City Theatres to address the growing demand by a tertiary institution for students to undergo on-the-job exposure, as a pre-requisite to acquire an academic qualification or as a requirement after the acquisition of academic qualification to obtain experiential training. Joburg City Theatres is committed to provide students/graduates an opportunity to intern at Joburg City Theatres.

• This internship opportunity is applicable to youth in the Johannesburg communities, who qualify for this internship and have never participated in an internship programme before, except in circumstances where the internship programme was not relevant to the candidate’s course of study.

• This Vacancy is open to all qualifying STUDENTS in the Johannesburg Community for a period not exceeding 24 months.

• Applicants must be between the ages of 18 -35 years and be a South Africa citizen. Students.

Designation : INTERNSHIP: MARKETING & PUBLIC RELATIONS

Remuneration : R6 094. 00 (Basic Salary, no benefits)

Location : Soweto Theatre, Jabulani

Minimum Requirements:

• Grade 12 / Matric or N3 Certificate.

• National Diploma or bachelor’s degree in marketing, or Public Relations, or Communications, or Media Studies.

 

Core Competencies:

• Computer literacy (MS Office, design and social media tools advantageous).

• Good verbal and written communication skills in English

 

Key Learning Areas:

• Assist with the development and scheduling of social media content.

• Draft media statements, press releases, and newsletters.

• Support event promotions, launches, and activations.

• Monitor media coverage and compile reports.

• Assist in database management for media and stakeholders.

• Provide administrative support in marketing campaigns and PR activities.

• Deliver at least 10 social media posts per week aligned with campaign plans.

• Draft a minimum of 2 press releases per month with supervisor guidance.

• Assist in at least 3 promotional events per quarter with positive feedback.

• Submit weekly media monitoring reports.

• Maintain an updated media/stakeholder database with accuracy.

• Provide positive feedback from the line manager on teamwork and creativity.

Designation : BUILDING AND SECURITY INTERN

Remuneration : R6 094. 00 (Basi salary, no benefits)

Location : Soweto Theatre (Jabulani)

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric or N3 Certificate.

• National Diploma or Degree in on Engineering Studies or related qualification.

 

Primary Function

Provide support within the Building and Facilities Department by assisting with maintenance operations, inspections, repairs, safety compliance, contractor coordination, and general facilities management functions. This internship offers valuable practical workplace experience within a theatre and facilities management environment.

 

Core Competencies

• Good verbal and written communication skills in English

• Basic knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems.

• Basic knowledge of building maintenance and repairs.

• Computer literacy.

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel & PowerPoint).

 

Leading Competencies

• Ability to work independently and within a team.

• Attention to detail and willingness to learn.

 

Key Learning Areas

• Assist with general maintenance of theatre facilities and infrastructure.

• Assist with routine inspections of buildings, plumbing, electrical, and structural systems.

• Identify and report maintenance defects and safety hazards.

• Assist with minor maintenance and repair works.

• Monitor cleanliness, hygiene, and accessibility standards.

• Support preventative maintenance programmes.

• Assist with contractor supervision and site coordination.

• Maintain maintenance logs, records, and stock control documentation.

• Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements.

• Support energy and water conservation initiatives.

• Assist with asset management and record-keeping.

• Support theatre operations during events and productions.

• Perform any other duties delegated by the supervisor.
