Synopsis

  • To lead and support the regional office in originating, developing, packaging and
  • facilitating high-quality investment opportunities in the small business and regional development space, while supporting Strategic Business Units with regional deal origination, basic assessments, due diligence support and stakeholder-led pipeline development.
  • To drive regional development impact, financial sustainability, client service excellence, stakeholder partnerships, SME readiness, team capability and execution of regional priorities aligned to IDC's strategic objectives and national industrial development priorities.
  • To drive particular focus on agriculture, agro-processing, mining-linked opportunities, supplier development initiatives and rural economic development.
  • To achieve long-term sustainability through driving strategic objectives and priorities which are:

Qualification and Experience

  • Minimum qualification: relevant commercial or technical degree.
  • Post graduate degree would be advantageous
  • 8-10 years’ proven experience in the field of project finance and/or corporate finance and/or small business finance.
  • 8-10 years of deal origination experience.
  • At least 5 years’ experience of leadership and management of teams.
  • Solid experience in interacting and presenting to Senior leaders.
  • Experience in engaging, managing and negotiating with relevant specialist bodies,
  • government institutions, industry associations etc.
  • Client management expertise.
  • Experience of finance, marketing, technical and other relevant aspects relating to
  • analysis of debt and equity transactions.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and partnership development across public and private sector ecosystems.
  • Understanding of regional economic development, industrial development and SME financing environments.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

 

Financial / Shareholder Returns

  • Maximise shareholder value in terms of industry development and development impact.
  • Development and management of the regional budget.
  • Lead the team to perform financial soundness of all recommendations and decisions and financial credibility and astuteness in transactions to drive IDC’s financial sustainability.
  • Ensure developmental optimization of decisions by the team.

 

Internal / Operational Processes

  • Facilitate regional industrial investment, both in SMEs as well as Large Businesses.
  • Partner with SME Connect team to facilitate strategic partnerships with corporates, DFIs, industry associations, chambers, provincial agencies and SME ecosystem, participants to enhance pipeline development and development impact.
  • Work in collaboration with IDC SME Connect Program, to build a robust pipeline of IDC fundable projects in the region.
  • Facilitate, implement and monitor an effective business support program, for IDC funded clients through collaboration, and assist with internal stakeholders where relevant.
  • Define and implement strategic objectives and business plans of the region.
  • Develop and implement processes to assist the regional dealmakers in performing due diligence assessments and preparation for credit review submissions to the various committees.
  • Provide strategic leadership and guidance to staff and stakeholders in policy, strategic and operational matters.
  • Proactively drive key business initiatives and sourcing of clients and deals.
  • Contribute to industry policy decision-making in the region.
  • Develop and implement required information and reporting systems to track and manage progress of regional strategy implementation.
  • Effective post investment management together with CSG, ensuring client
  • sustainability, development impact and compliance with approved Service Level
  • Agreements.
  • Ensure the quality of assessments of applications for financing.
  • Provide well-written and motivated reports for financing.
  • Provide management reports on regional pipeline development, stakeholder
  • engagements, turnaround times and achievement of strategic objectives to the Head of Small Business Finance and Regions.
  • Identify and source deal-flow for IDC SBUs.
  • Develop, maintain and actively manage a regional pipeline aligned to provincial
  • economic priorities, IDC sector strategies and development impact objectives.
  • Drive conversion of opportunities through effective pipeline management, transaction readiness support and proactive resolution of deal bottlenecks.
  • To represent IDC on Boards and/or Community Trusts, where required.

 

Customer Focus & Stakeholder Management

  • Build and maintain influential relationships with strategic stakeholders (government, business forums, clients etc. – both public and private sector).
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with IDC strategic business units at Head Office.
  • Present the strategic objectives and operational plans of the regional office to key decision-making stakeholders within the Corporation.
  • Liaise, communicate and promote the regional office externally.
  • Ensure the provision of client service excellence by the team.

  • Provide strategic leadership and management to ensure high performance.
  • Ensure the effective management of people in the unit, including employee motivation and development and application of Corporate policies and procedures and ensuring optimal performance.

Job Description

To Lead the team that is responsible for the development, review and oversight of the IDC’s corporate strategies and assist in the execution of such strategies. Also plays a key role in strategy formulation, collaborates with both internal and external stakeholders, and leads cross-functional teams in the development of corporation-wide operational strategies

 

Qualification and Experience

  • Relevant B. degree such as a B. Com Economics degree
  • A Development Finance degree will be an added advantage
  • A Master’s degree (MBA/MBL)
  • Preferably a minimum 8 years’ experience in the development and implementation of a business strategy in a relevant environment.
  • Knowledge of the Development Finance sector.
  • Understanding of Economics/Socio-Economics/Development Economics.
  • Understanding of performance management principles.
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of Government policy priorities.
  • Understanding of change management and business process re-engineering.
  • Good understanding of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, review and oversee IDC’s long-term strategy and five-year corporate plan,including the setting of corporate targets.
  • Continuously define IDC’s corporate measurements in line with company’s strategy.
  • Guide IDC’s capital allocation activities to ensure alignment with optimal IDC investment portfolio.
  • Provide units with guidance in the development of their sector and functional strategies during the business planning cycle and ensure alignment of business plans to Corporate objectives.
  • Responsible for frequent corporate performance assessment and reporting – including legislative and best practice reporting e.g. integrated report, quarterly and monthly reporting, sustainability reports, development impact reports.
  • Management of review process for team and corporate performance and targets and performance.
  • Responsible for ongoing review and enhancement of corporate planning and performance processes in making sure that these are timely, focused, and value adding.
  • Responsible and lead the Internal and External Audit of Predetermined Objectives (AOPO)
  • Lead IDC business planning process, the Exco strategy session and the IDC Board strategy session.
  •  Supporting implementation of corporate strategies.
  • Communication of corporate performance and strategies throughout the corporation.
  • Assisting SBUs/Departments/Divisions with strategic planning.
  • Monitoring external environment and environmental forecasting.
  • Monitoring economic, socio-political, legislative and competitive trends and provide
  • Recommendations to leadership and management across the business regarding opportunities and risks.
  • Provide strategic and tactical, and policy information – statistical and otherwise – to input into IDC corporate planning and decision-making processes.
  • To participate and advocate for IDC position in emerging national legislation and policy.
