1. JOB PURPOSE
This position, which reports to the Team Leader in the Inspections Department, requires wide knowledge of and experience in external audit, performing robust inspections of audit firms’ quality management systems and financial statement audits in line with the applicable auditing and financial reporting standards.
2. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
• Participating in the team planning and scoping of risk-based inspections.
• Inspecting planned financial statement audit engagements and firms’ quality management policies and procedures; discussing findings; consulting internally and preparing high quality reports in a timely manner.
• Preparing high quality inspection files with appropriate evidence of inspections in a timely manner.
• Regular interaction with audit firms, including engagement partners and firm leadership, to discuss inspection findings.
• Demonstrating independence and sound professional judgement in driving inspection matters to conclusion.
• Participating in relevant projects of the IRBA in fulfilling its mandate.
• Researching and consulting internally on technical auditing and financial reporting matters.
• Preparing reports and inspection outcomes for presentation to the Inspections Committee (INSCOM).
• Provide inputs on all the files quarterly - during the pre-committee (Pre-Com) meeting in preparation for the INSCOM meeting.
• Ensuring that all INSCOM queries are addressed timeously, including providing context and presenting at meetings where required.
• Assisting Senior Inspectors with the onboarding and training of new inspectors.
• Contributing to publications, technical articles, and inputs into public inspection reports, where required.
• Responsible for keeping up to date with the latest accounting, auditing and technology standards and regulations and the practical implementation thereof.
3. KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES
3.1. Qualifications and Previous work experience
• CA (SA) who trained in public practice (external audit) with at least 6 years post qualification experience in external statutory audits.
• RA registration / Eligibility to register as an RA is advantageous.
• Private sector / IFRS audit experience essential.
• Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) qualification with full ISACA membership (CPD up to date) is advantageous.
• At least 6 years post -qualification/articles experience within an external audit firm.
• Experience in quality control reviews or audit technical support will be advantageous.
• Minimum at a Senior Manager level or equivalent position in an auditing environment.
• Excellent technical knowledge and experience in auditing and financial reporting standards.
• Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of the IRBA’s role in protecting the investing public and maintaining audit quality.

• Professional maturity and a deadline-driven approach with high level of accuracy.
• Excellent time management skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
