GTA seeks to appoint a strong leader with proven business acumen and leadership experience to the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on a 3-year, fixed-term contract of employment. As CEO, you will be expected to effectively develop and promote GTA’s strategic goals to create and promote a world-class and strategically marketed tourist destination; contribute towards tourism sector industry development; facilitate industry coordination and cooperative governance; foster a responsible and sustainable tourism industry and implement progressive compliance and corporate governance practices.

 

Key Performance Areas

The CEO will be responsible for overseeing the planning, development and execution of GTA’s destination marketing and management strategies and overall management and leadership of GTA. The CEO’s primary responsibilities are to:

  • Promote and market Gauteng as a tourist destination through successful marketing using market research, product marketing, data analytics, business intelligence, communications, advertising and public relations.
  • Build and promote a sustained and attractive image of GTA and the Gauteng Province through the development of strategies for domestic tourism that results in Gauteng being perceived as a vibrant and profitable part of the provincial tourism industry and positioning Gauteng’s brand amongst the leading tourism destination brands globally.
  • Lead the adoption of AI and technology to improve GTA processes, tourism data management and data-driven decision-making across the tourism value chain.
  • Drive integration and collaboration between tourism supply, demand and industry stakeholders in support of GGT 2030, the Gauteng Tourism Sector Strategy, the National Tourism Sector Strategy and related strategic priorities.
  • Deliver the plans (short-, medium-, and long-term) to achieve the strategic objectives.
  • Identify key risks and implement mitigation interventions.
  • Ensure sound corporate governance and compliance principles
  • Develop strategies to ensure that GTA’s financial sustainability, effective financial management and adequate funding.
  • Attract, develop and retain talent while supporting senior management and strengthening GTA’s culture, values and leadership.
  • Position GTA as a key partner in driving economic growth and job creation through tourism infrastructure development and skills training.

 

Minimum Requirements

This executive position requires a highly skilled individual with a post graduate degree, preferably a Master’s degree, in Business Leadership, Tourism, or a related field. Applicants must have at least 10 years’ strategic management experience (of which at least 6 years at senior management level and at least 4 years at executive or, preferably, chief executive officer level).

Qualifications will be considered in combination with experience in the areas of tourism development, business leadership, destination-marketing, financial management, good corporate governance and positioning businesses within local and international markets. Applicants should demonstrate sound experience in strategic management and leadership within an organisation in the tourism and/or economic and development sector.

Proven business skills in areas such as negotiation, marketing, people and talent management, business administration and governance, strategic planning and leadership, marketing, public relations engagement as well as an in-depth understanding of the applicable public sector legislative framework are required.

The successful candidate will assist with conceptualising, designing, and executing integrated digital content strategies across multiple platforms, focusing on driving brand awareness, growing digital communities, and converting online engagement into measurable brand loyalty.

 

KEY PERFOMANCE AREAS

1. Digital Content Creation & Storytelling

  • Research, conceptualise and develop compelling digital content that promotes Gauteng’s tourism, investment, events and destination brand narratives.

3. Multimedia Production & Digital Video Content Supervision

  • Produce, edit and optimise short-form and long-form video content for digital marketing campaigns, events and stakeholder communication initiatives.
  • Capture and edit photography and video content for real-time and post-event digital storytelling.
  • Develop motion graphics, video highlights, reels and promotional content tailored for various digital platforms.
  • Assist in planning, scripting, shooting and post-production activities for multimedia projects.

4. Digital Broadcast Content

  • Support the planning, coordination, recording, editing and publication of GTA and Visit Gauteng podcast content.
  • Assist with research, scripting, content preparation and production logistics for podcast episodes and digital broadcasts.
  • Develop supporting promotional content including episode graphics, video snippets, social media assets and audiograms.
  • Support distribution and optimisation of podcast content across digital and streaming platforms to increase audience reach and engagement.

5. Website & Digital Platforms Content Management

  • Assist with the creation, design, updating and optimisation of content across GTA and Visit Gauteng mobile application, websites and digital platforms.
  • Create digital assets and content that enhance website user experience, audience engagement and destination promotion.
  • Adapt and repurpose content for websites, social media platforms, email marketing and other digital channels.
  • Support content publishing, scheduling and quality assurance processes across the digital ecosystem.

6. Digital Channel Growth & Audience Engagement

  • Support implementation of digital engagement strategies to increase audience growth, interaction and community participation.
  • Monitor content performance and identify opportunities to improve reach, engagement and audience experience.
  • Contribute innovative ideas and emerging digital trends to strengthen GTA’s digital presence and destination marketing efforts.
  • Support real-time digital coverage of campaigns, activations, tourism events and stakeholder engagements.

7. Digital Analytics, Reporting & Innovation

  • Assist with the collection, analysis and reporting of digital performance metrics across websites, social media, podcasts and other digital channels.
  • Prepare regular performance reports, dashboards and content insights to support decision-making.
  • Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies and best practices in digital content production, design and storytelling.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as delegated by the line manager.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • National Diploma or Degree in Digital Media, Multimedia Design, Graphic Design, Digital Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Film and Television Production, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of digital content creation, multimedia storytelling and visual communication.
  • Proficiency in graphic design, video editing and digital content production tools.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, After Effects and/or Adobe Audition) and Canva.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

The Executive in the office of the CEO post calls for a highly skilled individual who has a relevant Postgraduate Degree/Diploma at NQF 8 (Public Administration, Business Management, Business Administration, Governance, Economics, Tourism, Law or related field).  A Master’s Degree (NQF Level 9) and an Executive Leadership Development Certification will be advantageous. Knowledge of stakeholder management or executive offices coordination and management will be an advantage. A minimum of 5-8 years Senior Management experience, with a minimum of 3 years at Executive level. Experience in public sector governance and PFMA environment, proven experience in leading multi-functional teams and experience in strategic planning, stakeholder management and organisational performance oversight.

KEY PERFOMANCE AREAS

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following performance areas.

1. Corporate Governance and Governance Framework Management:

  • Support the development, review and implementation of GTA governance frameworks, policies and procedures including Board Charters, Delegations of Authority and Committee Terms of Reference.
  • Monitor governance compliance across the organisation and report deviations to the Company Secretary.

A postgraduate qualification in Corporate Governance, Compliance or Commercial Law will be an added advantage.

In terms of experience, the requirements are, a minimum five (5) years’ experience in governance, legal advisory or compliance management. Experience within the public sector environment and PFMA compliance is essential.

Key Responsibilities

Photography, Videography and Content Production

  • Plan, capture, edit, and produce professional photography and videography content showcasing Gauteng’s tourism offerings, attractions, events, experiences, people, and destinations.
  • Develop short-form and long-form video content for digital, social media, website, marketing campaigns, destination promotion, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Edit and package multimedia content according to brand and campaign requirements.
  • Produce visual content that strengthens and enhances the Visit Gauteng destination brand identity and visual profile.

Multimedia Content Creation and Storytelling

  • Create compelling multimedia stories that showcase Gauteng’s diverse tourism experiences, cultural heritage, innovation, lifestyle, and investment opportunities.
  • Develop destination-focused visual narratives that support tourism promotion campaigns and strategic marketing initiatives.

Digital Content Bank and Library Development

  • Assist in the creation, organisation, maintenance, and management of a centralised GTA and Visit Gauteng digital content bank.

  • Support the archiving and preservation of visual content for future campaigns, media relations, partnerships, and stakeholder use.

Social Media and Digital Content Management

  • Create, curate, schedule, and optimise digital and social media content across GTA and Visit Gauteng platforms.
  • Develop platform-specific content for Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, and emerging digital channels.
  • Monitor content performance and contribute ideas to improve audience engagement, reach, and destination visibility.

Event, Campaign and Project Support

  • Provide photography, videography, livestreaming, and multimedia support for GTA and Visit Gauteng events, activations, campaigns, exhibitions, media engagements, and stakeholder programmes.
  • Capture real-time content and deliver timely post-event content packages for media, marketing, and digital platforms.

Destination Branding and Visual Identity

The Gauteng Tourism Authority seeks to appoint a highly competent Manager: Corporate Communications, Stakeholder, International and Industry Relations to lead and manage GTA’s corporate communications, international relations, stakeholder and industry engagement functions in order to strengthen the organisation’s reputation, intergovernmental positioning, industry partnerships and global cooperation footprint. The role ensures coherent corporate messaging, effective stakeholder management frameworks, and strategic alignment between GTA and provincial, national and international partners.

 

KEY PERFOMANCE AREAS

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following performance areas.

1. Corporate Communications and Reputation Management:

  • Develop and implement the corporate communications strategy aligned to GTA strategy.
  • Oversee media relations, press releases and official statements.
  • Ensure consistent corporate messaging across all platforms.
  • Manage crisis communication and reputational risk.
  • Oversee corporate publications (annual reports, newsletters, briefs).
  • Monitor and analyse media coverage and brand sentiment.

2. International Relations and Intergovernmental Coordination:

  • Develop and maintain GTA’s international relations framework.
  • Coordinate bilateral and multilateral tourism engagements.
  • Provide protocol guidance for inbound and outbound missions.
  • Support implementation of cooperation agreements.
  • Liaise with national, provincial and international bodies.
  • Identify strategic global partnerships aligned to tourism growth.

 

3. Stakeholder and Industry Relations Management:

  • Develop and implement stakeholder engagement strategy.
  • Maintain and update stakeholder database and segmentation matrix.
  • Facilitate industry forums and stakeholder engagements.
  • Conduct stakeholder satisfaction surveys in collaboration with M&E.
  • Manage intergovernmental relations guidelines.
  • Serve as primary liaison between GTA and industry bodies.

 

4. Brand Positioning and Strategic Alignment:

  • Ensure GTA corporate positioning aligns with provincial priorities.
  • Conduct environmental scanning and positioning analysis.
  • Analyse industry impact of GTA programmes.
  • Support integration of destination branding with corporate messaging.
  • Monitor visitor information centre service quality feedback.
  • Develop reports on stakeholder perception and agency positioning.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

The Manager: Corporate Communications, Stakeholder, International and Industry Relations position calls for a highly skilled individual who has a minimum qualification of a Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7) in Communications, Public Relations, International Relations, Marketing, Public Administration, Business Administration or a related field. Postgraduate qualification (NQF Level 8) will be advantageous.

In terms of experience, the requirements are, a minimum five (5) years’ experience in communications, international relations and stakeholder management. Experience within the public sector environment and PFMA compliance is essential.
