POSITION : MANAGER DISASTER MANAGEMENT

Requirement: A relevant National Diploma/ B Degree in Safety, Emergency Management Discipline or equivalent qualification with a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience at supervisory level; Code B Driving License; Proficiency in MS Office applications;; Excellent organizational and administrative skills; Excellent analytic and problem-solving ability; High level of integrity, responsibility and confidentiality; Have ability to give attention to detail and be able to work under pressure; Report writing; Communication Skills; Ability to deal with conflict situations; Excellent Negotiation skills.
Duties: Formulates, aligns and implements critical objectives encompassed in approved long and short-term plans to guide the functioning and priorities of the Disaster Management Centre and other related community services functions; Directs and controls outcomes associated with utilization, productivity and performance of personnel within the Section; Prepares capital and operating estimates and controls expenditure against the approved budget allocations; Implements procedures, systems and controls to regulate specific work sequences and general practices/ processes as dictated to in public safety legislation and by-laws; Manages and controls the implementation of plans, procedures, systems and controls associated with risk assessment and monitoring, Disaster Management planning, recovery and rehabilitation sequences and, education and awareness interventions; Directs operative requirements and procedures during potential and actual disasters; Manages and controls the implementation of plans, procedures, systems and controls related to risk analysis, loss control, incident investigation and protection; Disseminates functional and operational information on the immediate, short and long term objectives and current developments, problems and constraints; Manages the administrative and reporting requirements associated with the key performance and result indicators of the functionality.

Duties: Identifies with the disaster management strategy with respect to service delivery and, defines, implements and monitors the short-term plans/ objectives; Implements procedures, systems and controls to regulate specific work and associated sequences associated with the Disaster Management functionality; Coordinates and controls the tasks/ activities of personnel and allocates and prioritizes outcomes; Disseminates information on outcomes, current developments, problems and constraints and/ or presents educational material on public safety/ disaster management exercises; co-ordinates specific administrative and reporting requirements associated with the key performance and result indicators of the functionality; There are various unforeseen and unplanned peak periods e.g. during the festive season and storms (acts of nature)
