INVITATION FOR NOMINATIONS OF PERSONS TO SERVE ON BOARD OF THE RAILWAY SAFETY REGULATOR (RSR)

 

The Railway Safety Regulator is a national public entity established in terms of the National Railway Safety Regulator Act 16 of 2002. Its mandate is to provide for and promote, regulate and report on safe railway operations, recognize the prime responsibility and accountability of operators in ensuring the safety of railway operations, promote the harmonization of the railway safety regime standards.

 

The Regulator has a Board, whose function is to ensure that the Regulator strives to achieve the objectives described in the Railway Safety Act, 2024 (Act No. 30 of 2024) and exercise general control over the performance of the functions of the Regulator. The Board shall have vacancies which will arise

 

The Minister of Transport is required to appoint a minimum of seven (7) and a maximum of 13 members to in, and demonstrate knowledge of and acumen in one or more of the following - (i) management of railways and railway operations, (ii) safety in railway transportation, including the impact of human factors, economic matters; (vi) information and communication technology; and the transportation of dangerous goods by rail.

 

Members of the public are hereby invited to nominate persons who have the required knowledge, skills, understanding of the mandate of the agency and experience to serve on the Board. Nominations must contain the full name and address of the interested parties making the nominations, a signed acceptance of the nomination by the nominee, ID copy and Curriculum Vitae of the nominee providing, amongst others, the candidate’s:

'Full name and gender

'Contact address, telephone and fax numbers and e-mail address

'Previous experience and relevant expertise, quoting dates and organisations concerned

Academic qualifications

'Other Board membership

 

 

Interviews MAY be conducted for nominees who are shortlisted.

Security screening will only be conducted for nominees who are shortlisted.

INVITATION FOR NOMINATIONS TO SERVE ON THE BOARD OF THE PASSENGER RAIL AGENCY OF SOUTH AFRICA (PRASA)

 

The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) is a national public entity established in terms of the Legal Succession to the South African Transport Services Amendment Act, 1989) (Act No. 9 of 1989) Its mandate is to provide commuter rail services, long haul passenger rail and bus services within the republic, and generate income from exploitation of its assets.

 

PRASA has a Board, whose function is to ensure that the entity strives for the achievement of the objectives prescribed in the Act and exercise overall authority and control over the entity. The Board serves for a period of three years and is accountable to the Minister of Transport.

 

In terms of the Act, the Minister of Transport is required to appoint a Board of not more than eleven (11) members, amongst which shall be person with expertise in Auditing, Engineering, Finance, Transport/Logistics, Legal and Human Resources Management; Railway operations, Property Development and Management. Experience in the management of a private sector enterprise will be an added advantage. 

 

The term of office of the current Board expires on 11 December 2026, Members of the public are hereby invited to nominate persons who have the required knowledge, relevant expertise and experience to serve on the Board of PRASA.
