SYSTEM ENGINEER FDS - LYTTELTON CAMPUS

 

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Denel Landward is looking for an experienced Systems Engineer (Fire Directing Systems) to lead the development, integration and lifecycle support of Fire Directing Systems (FDS) and Gun Laying Navigation Systems (GLNS).

This role is ideal for a technically strong systems engineer who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges, leading multidisciplinary teams and delivering high-performance defence solutions.

The Systems Engineer FDS must ensure that system solutions meet customer, contractual, quality, safety, manufacturability and cost requirements while maintaining technical integrity throughout the product lifecycle.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the design, development, integration, testing and support of FDS/GLNS hardware and software systems.
  • Apply Systems Engineering Management Plans (SEMPs), processes and procedures throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain Level A, B and C system and product specifications.
  • Perform requirements analysis, allocation, traceability, verification and validation across system, subsystem and component levels.
  • Compile, review and maintain defence-grade engineering documentation, including SSS, SSDD, SDDs, STDs, IRSs and SVDs.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 12207, MIL-STD-498 and MIL-STD-961D.
  • Generate and maintain software safety and system certification evidence.
  • Lead system integration, commissioning, qualification activities and engineering readiness reviews.
  • Ensure engineering documentation, design data, MRIs and BOMs are correctly structured and maintained.
  • Continuously improve Systems Engineering processes, procedures and documentation using industry best practices to enhance quality, efficiency and consistency of technical outputs.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to promote knowledge sharing, innovation and the adoption of engineering best practices.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Engineering strategy in support of divisional objectives.
  • Engage with industry experts, technology leaders and relevant stakeholders to remain aligned with emerging technologies and engineering practices.

 

QUALIFICATION

  • B Degree in Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.
  • Registration with professional bodies i.e., ECSA, INCOSE will be advantageous.

 

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 8 years' relevant systems engineering experience.
  • Proven experience in Fire Directing Systems (FDS) and/or Indirect Fire Control Systems.
  • Strong knowledge of defence technologies, defence products and systems engineering principles.
  • Experience in software requirements analysis, detailed design, integration and system-level testing.
  • Sound understanding of multidisciplinary engineering disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, electronic, optical, software and HMI integration.
  • Experience applying systems engineering standards, processes and lifecycle methodologies.
  • Project management, people leadership and stakeholder engagement experience.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication and technical documentation skills

CAD & PLM ADMINISTRATOR

 

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Denel Landward is seeking a CAD & PLM Administrator to manage and optimise CAD and PLM systems, support engineering teams, and ensure effective control of design data, configurations and product lifecycle information.

This role offers the opportunity to work on advanced defence engineering programmes, collaborate with skilled technical teams, and contribute to improving digital engineering capabilities through technology, process optimisation and innovation.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and optimise CAD and PLM environments, including Creo, NX, Windchill and Teamcenter.
  • Provide technical support, troubleshooting and fault resolution for CAD, PLM and system integrations.
  • Support engineers with 3D modelling, design data management, classification, release processes and configuration control.
  • Support engineering teams with 3D modelling, data management, classification, release processes and configuration control.
  • Maintain product structures, Bills of Material (BOMs) and engineering documentation.
  • Manage CAD/PLM user access, licences, software updates and version control.
  • Ensure compliance with ASME, ISO and company engineering standards.
  • Maintain engineering drawing templates, including DLS and DVS standards.
  • Evaluate and implement CAD/PLM improvements aligned with industry best practices.
  • Support engineering strategy initiatives, technology improvements and process optimisation.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATION

  • National Diploma in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Information Systems or Computer Science (NQF Level 6).

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 5 years’ CAD and/or PLM administration experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with Creo, NX, Windchill and Teamcenter or similar CAD/PLM platforms.
  • Knowledge of product lifecycle management, configuration control and engineering data management.
  • Understanding of defence industry standards and engineering practices.
  • Strong knowledge of drafting standards, systems integration, fault finding, testing and data analysis.
  • Experience with ERP system implementation and support.
  • Experience managing user access, licences and providing technical training.
  • Knowledge of product structures, BOMs and documentation control.
  • Strong communication, reporting and stakeholder engagement skills.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Responsible for overseeing the entire lifecycle of contracts within Denel Landward, including drafting, negotiating, executing, monitoring compliance, and managing risks. The role ensures that all agreements align with company goals and legal requirements. The incumbent will negotiate contract terms, identify potential issues, and mitigate risks to maximize value for Denel Landward while minimizing liabilities.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Contract drafting and review Creating and reviewing contract documents, including terms and conditions, to ensure clarity and legal accuracy. Clear Language and Specific Terms: Use of simple and straightforward language to avoid misunderstandings with each clause specific and unambiguous. Compliance with Relevant Laws: Ensure contracts comply with local laws and regulations to maintain their enforceability. Risk Mitigation and Dispute Resolution: Include provisions for indemnifications, limitations on liability, and dispute resolution to manage risks and outline procedures for resolving conflicts.

Negotiation Leading contract negotiations with vendors, partners, and clients to achieve favourable terms for the company. Costs: To reduce the cost of acquisition by achieving a lower price. Value: To achieve added value such as reduced lead or cycle times.

Performance: To improve performance through KPIs' and SLA's.

Conflict: To resolve conflict through reaching understanding.

Problem: To solve a problem by having an open discussion.

Quality: To achieve optimum quality through reducing defects.

Agreement: To reach a mutual agreement in a collaborative style where all parties are satisfied.

Contract execution: managing the implementation and ongoing administration of contracts, ensuring all parties adhere to agreed-upon terms. Regularly reviewing contracts to ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies. Identifying potential risks within contracts and developing strategies to mitigate them. Collaborating with internal stakeholders to understand their needs and ensuring contracts align with business objectives. Managing contract renewals and termination processes as needed. Tracking key contract metrics and reporting on contract performance to inform decision-making.

Stakeholder Management: establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Solve problems creatively whilst demonstrating a high level of integrity. Maintain professional relationships that meet Denel core values within the prescripts of regulatory, legislative and policies of Denel. Maintain effective and efficient communication channels to ensure and enable clear and open communication. Provide necessary organisational training requirements to ensure compliance to all regulations for training department to co-ordinate and implement.

Financial management: Review monthly expenditure statements from Finance and address anomalies. Manage cost centre expenses and capital budget by controlling operational and capital expenditure costs to remain within budget. Continuously seek opportunities to reduce cost

 

QUALIFICATION

  • NQF Level 8 qualification: Bachelor of Laws (LLB), Business Administration, or related field.

 

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in contract management, preferably in the defence, manufacturing, engineering industry.
  • Strong knowledge of contract management principles, practices, and regulations, Arms Control Act (2003), Export Control Regulations, and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
  • Proven track record in contract management with the ability to analyse complex documents and identify risks.
  • Willingness to travel both locally and internationally, as required.
