COMPETITION TRIBUNAL JOB SHADOWING PROGRAMME

The Tribunal is inviting applications for its Job Shadowing Programme. The programme provides students and graduates with an opportunity to gain short-term, structured exposure to the work and operations of the Tribunal.

The Competition Tribunal is an independent adjudicative body established in terms of section 26 of the Competition Act, No. 89 of 1998 (Act). It has jurisdiction throughout the Republic of South Africa. It exercises its functions in accordance with the Act, the Constitution and without fear, favour or prejudice. The Competition Tribunal is one of three independent authorities established in terms of the Act alongside the Competition Commission and the Competition Appeal Court. The Tribunal adjudicates on competition matters including mergers and prohibited practices (including cartels and abuse of dominance cases) and acts as a court of first instance in competition matters.

The Job Shadowing Programme is designed to give participants first-hand exposure to the professional working environment of the Tribunal. Participants will observe experienced professionals performing their normal duties and gain insight into how different functions contribute to the effective operation of the entity.

Opportunities are available to students in at least their 3^rd year of study or recent graduates (with no post-qualification relevant work experience) in the following areas:

• Law
• Economics
• Information Technology
• Human Resources
• Finance
• Administration
• Communications

The programme aims to introduce students and graduates to the workplace and provide practical insight into careers relevant to their field of study or professional interests. Participants will have the opportunity to observe workplace processes, develop their understanding of professional environments and gain exposure to the day-to-day operations.

Each job shadowing placement will be for a period of two weeks. The programme does not constitute employment or an internship and does not guarantee or create an entitlement to future internship or employment at the Tribunal. The Tribunal will however provide a stipend to cover the costs of participating in the programme.
