The Community Schemes Ombud Service Act (Act 9 of 2011) was promulgated on 11 June 2011 and provides for the establishment of the Community Schemes Ombud Service (“CSOS”) as a public entity. The CSOS has been classified as a Schedule 3A Public Entity in terms of the Public Finance Management Act (Act No.1 of 1999) (PFMA)

 

Job Description

  • Manage the quality assurance adjudication unit by ensuring that the unit conducts assessments into adjudication orders to determine if the quality of the orders meet the CSOS standard. 
  • Ensure the quality assurance team provide commentary for consideration on relief ordered against relief sought. 
  • Research on case law and/ legal prescripts referenced in the order and provide commentary.
  • Ensure compliance to the usage of correct template for all adjudication orders.
  • Participate in forums and tasks, overall research, and regional training to ensure service delivery. 
  • Manage resources (i.e., budget/ finance, asset/ equipment, and staff) within the unit to ensure that they are utilized optimally. 
  • Develop policies, work plans and oversee their compliance within CSOS

 

Job Requirements

  • Degree in law.
  • Previous experience in an alternative dispute resolution environment will be added advantage.
  • 5 years’ experience in a legal compliance environment.

 

Knowledge:

  • Sound understanding of political and legislative environment of the CSOS Act as well as the Sectional Titles Management Act, Companies Act, Share block Act, Schemes for Retired Persons Act and Cooperative Act.

Job Description

  • Developing and implementing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work through a proactive approach and maintain high legal service standards to ensure client and customer satisfaction.
  • Performing Administrative/Secretarial Activities.
  • Communicating with People Inside and Outside Organization
  • Oversee and develop reports Maintenance to ensure efficient record storage for reference and auditing purposes.
  • Co-ordinate the processing of invoices, orders and travel and accommodation arrangements in the Department and monitor/control the Departmental budget so that the expenditure is within the approved Budget.

 

Job Requirements

  • Paralegal Studies or Legal Secretarial Diploma
  • Minimum of 3 years post qualification experience in either in a law firm or the legal division of a large corporate.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with senior legal staff and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to equilibrate priorities and organize work effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and oral communication and analytical skills.
  • Pays attention to detail.

  • Strong interpersonal, diplomatic and negotiation skills

  • Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders and CSOS policies and rules.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct basic legal research
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
