SENIOR RESEARCHER

The Social Justice and Training Department, in the National Office, has a vacancy for a Senior Researcher.

 

Purpose: The Senior Researcher serves a two-tiered function.

 

Firstly, the function supports the Researchers in the proactive analysis of prominent indicators/trends/themes arising at any given time in the labour market. The Senior Researcher is also responsible for the development of pre-emptive or situational labour market monitoring tools (such as conflict predictive tools, barometers, economic dashboards, etc.), the running/development of forecast analyses or predictive modelling tools and the proactive operational alignment of the Research function with best practice, in consortium with the Manager’s strategic oversight as determined by the applicable CCMA five (05) year Organisational Strategy.

Secondly, the function is responsible for the conceptualisation and running of key strategic organisational-wide research studies (in either type of research design; qualitative, quantitative or mixed methods), as well as those resulting from the CCMA’s strategic partnerships and those proactively necessitated by the dynamic labour market that the CCMA functions within; thus this will entail the development of research briefs/proposals (or TORS), sampling designs, research tools, running with each project’s data collection (desktop or empirical data collection) and analysis aspects, the compilation of sound research reports, presentations, academic articles, symposium pieces, etc

 

Key Performance Areas:-

  • Provide Research Capability to the CCMA
  • Conducting Reactive and Proactive Research
  • Compile Internal and External Research Publications
  • Analyse CCMA Statistics and Economic Data

 

Key Requirements:

  • Postgraduate degree (NQF 8) specialising in Social Research Methodology/Statistics (A Master’s degree would be advantageous)
  • Minimum of five (05) years’ Applied Research experience, either in the Private Sector or Public Sector Research with a proven track record of Research studies undertaken. This will include exposure of at least one (01) year in the Labour Law field and proficiency in Project Management.

 

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of quantitative & qualitative research methodology (research design, sampling, designing research tools & analysis)
  • Knowledge of database management techniques and predictive modelling strategies
  • Sound knowledge of Statistical tests (validity tests, reliability tests, Anovas etc.)
  • Knowledge of OLRAC SPSS/STATA/ ATLAS T.I/POWER BI and any other Data Analysis software
  • Knowledge of credible Artificial Intelligence platforms that can support the ethical development of the Sub-Unit’s outputs
  • Knowledge of the South African Labour market and the International sphere having an impact on the CCMA’s operations
  • Knowledge of the CCMA’s processes and its functions
  • Knowledge of the PFMA and other regulations governing a public entity
  • Knowledge of all applicable Labour legislation (e.g. LRA, BCEA, EE, SD, etc.)
