JUNIOR FACILITATOR: SCIENCE - CSI: MATHS AND SCIENCE PROGRAMME
ACCOUNTABILITY
Junior Facilitator: Science will be accountable to the Senior Maths and Science Facilitator.
MANDATE
The Junior Facilitator: Science is mandated by the Senior Maths and Science Facilitator to facilitate Science learners at the CDC Maths and Science Centre.
DESCRIPTION
RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBLIGATIONS
The primary responsibility of the Junior Facilitator - Science is to facilitate Science learners at the CDC Maths and Science Centre. The Facilitator will also be required to:
Facilitation and Tuition
- Deliver high-quality Physical Science instruction to Grade 12 learners, focusing on foundational concepts and language proficiency in the subjects.
- Conduct diagnostic assessments to identify learner weaknesses and tailor instruction accordingly.
- Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with the CAPS curriculum, utilising textbooks, computer-based programs, and teaching aids (e.g. interactive whiteboards, projectors).
- Provide individual and group tutorials to support learner understanding and academic growth.
- Prepare learners for mid-year, trial and final examinations, ensuring they meet required standards.
- Conduct practical experiments and demonstrations with learners;
- Marking of tests, assignments, examinations and/ or other assessments.
Learner Support and Career Guidance
- Provide comprehensive career guidance and support, including information on tertiary education options and application processes.
- Facilitate interactions with tertiary institution admission staff.
- Assist learners with NSFAS applications and other relevant financial aid processes.
- Offer ongoing mentorship and support to learners, addressing their academic and personal needs.
- Motivate and keep the students engaged throughout the year.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of CAPS curriculum and South African education system
- Knowledge of general administrative processes.
- Knowledge of curriculum development
Skills:
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal)
- Strong time management, planning and organisational skills
- Proficiency in using technology and online tools as a means of instruction/ tuition

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- A Degree/ Diploma in Physical Science, any related or equivalent qualification;
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in teaching and marking Physical Science at grade 12 level;
- Grade 12 examination marking experience is advantageous;
- Computer literacy is essential.
PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
Performance is monitored regularly by the Senior Maths and Science Facilitator using learner achievement and academic progress key indicators of effectiveness
