Job Purpose

The Faculty of Health & Wellness Sciences seeks to appoint a Faculty Teaching and Learning Coordinator for a period of three (3) years in which the incumbent will retain 50% of the current academic workload, and the remaining will be covered by the Coordinator allowance.

The purpose of this post is to coordinate the teaching, learning, and assessment activities, strategies, and policies within the faculty. The incumbent will be located on the Bellville campus and will serve the Faculty of Health and Wellness Science departments situated on the Bellville, D6 and Tygervalley. Please note that only current employees within the Faculty of Health & Wellness Sciences will be considered.

 

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • A relevant Doctoral degree. Consideration will be given to candidates with a relevant Master's degree who are registered for a relevant Doctoral degree and are at an advanced stage towards completion.
  • At least four (4) years' relevant experience in Higher Education.
  • A proven record of managing projects and programmes.
  • A research record in the field of teaching and learning.
  • Experience in management and administration in the faculty.
  • Knowledge, skills and experience of teaching as well as lecturing.
  • Proficiency in English and at least one other regional language.
  • Experience in managing a budget.

Please note: Only current employees within the Faculty of Health and Wellness Sciences will be considered for this appointment.

 

Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities

  • Coordination of the teaching, learning, and assessment activities within the faculty.
  • Implementation of a teaching, learning, and assessment strategy for the faculty.
  • Assist with the appointment of mentors, tutors, and retention officers in the faculty.
  • Investigation of current health science educational practices and promotion of scholarship in the faculty.
  • Assisting in designing and delivering the First Year Experience programme for the faculty.
  • Responsibility for PQM and coordination of new programme proposals and applications.
  • Responsibility for quality assurance in teaching, learning, and assessment.
  • Responsibility for faculty review reports.
  • Responsibility for faculty qualifications reviews.
  • Coordinate staff development workshops on curriculum development, innovation of teaching, learning, and assessment.
  • Faculty representative in teaching, learning, and assessment-related committees in the university.
  • Communication and coordination of teaching, learning, and assessment policies, projects, and procedures in the faculty.

Job Purpose

The purpose of this vacancy is to appoint a lecturer on a fixed-term contract in the place of our current CAT lecturer, who will

go on study leave for six months.


Please note that this position is based at the Wellington Campus where tuition is in Afrikaans. Candidates must be able

to teach in Afrikaans

 

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Minimum requirements: Lecturer

  • A relevant Master's or Honours degree in Computer Applications Technology (CAT) (preference for a relevant Master's degree).
  • Computer Applications Technology (CAT) as a major at the undergraduate level.
  • A relevant teaching qualification with CAT as a major (preferably at secondary school level).
  • At least five years' experience teaching CAT at secondary school level, or at least two years' experience teaching CAT at tertiary level.
  • Experience in the preparation, evaluation and moderation of meaningful teaching experiences for FET Phase CAT students.
  • Teaching or mentoring experience with pre‑service teachers.

Recommendations:

  • Experience with WIL supervision.
  • Experience in setting and moderating CAT examinations and PATs.
