ROLE PROFILE: Payroll Administrator
Role Purpose
To ensure the accurate and timely processing of payroll, benefits, and tax-related information for BAT South Africa. This role is critical in maintaining the integrity of the SAP Payroll system and ensuring total compliance with local legislative reporting and company policy.
Key Responsibilities
1. Payroll Processing & Data Management
- Input Management: Responsible for South African payroll inputs; validate that payment requests for business mileage, school fee reimbursements, recognition awards, and field force incentives align strictly with company policy.
- Data Integrity: Ensure SuccessFactors (SF) records interface correctly with SAP and update Infotypes to maintain high data accuracy.
- Error Resolution: Proactively resolve payroll errors resulting from monthly payruns and manage all off-cycle beneficiary payments.
2. Benefits & Employee Services
- Medical Aid & Retirement: Manage membership life cycles with Remedi Medical Aid (joiners, dependants, withdrawals) and process withdrawals via the AlexForbes portal.
- Employee Support: Manage the SAPayroll mailbox and resolve employee queries regarding payroll, benefits, and tax.
- Documentation: Issue official employment confirmation, Visa application letters, and tool-of-trade letters aligned to legislated guidelines.
4. Legislative Reporting & Compliance
- Tax Compliance: Support tax balancing, validate deductions during legislative changes, and ensure tax directive applications are requested.
- Statutory Filings: Complete UIF documentation for qualifying employees and distribute IRP5 certificates to terminated staff.
Competency Requirements
Technical Skills & Qualifications
- Systems: Proficiency in SAP Payroll is essential.
- Legislative Knowledge: Strong understanding of South African tax laws (SARS), UIF, and payroll legislative reporting.

- Analytical Thinking: Ability to troubleshoot interface errors and complex payroll discrepancies.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous validation of claims and data inputs to ensure "right-first-time" processing.
- Effective Communication: Professionalism in handling sensitive employee queries and third-party provider relations.

Reporting to: Head of Commercial Finance – WESA
Role Purpose
To lead and coordinate commercial finance activities across WESA (14 markets), partnering with end markets and regional leadership to drive sustainable growth, optimise pricing and investment decisions, and deliver robust financial planning, forecasting and governance in line with BAT standards.
Key Accountabilities
- Execute commercial planning cycles (SOP, Budget, Latest Estimates) ensuring alignment to strategic priorities
- Support pricing strategy, revenue growth management and margin optimisation across markets
- Provide decision support through robust financial analysis, insights and business case evaluation
- Commercial finance governance, ensuring compliance with BAT policies and control frameworks
- Manage and optimise trade spend, marketing OPEX/CAPEX and ROI performance
- Partner with End Markets and cross-functional teams (Marketing, Legal, Finance) to enhance commercial performance
- Standardise and continuously improve tools, processes and reporting across WESA
- Support revenue assurance and credit risk management across markets
- Drive efficiency, automation and data-driven decision-making across commercial finance

- Experience in FMCG or similar fast-paced environment
- Advanced financial modelling and analytical capabilities
- Strong knowledge of financial controls, governance and IFRS standards
- Proficiency in SAP, Excel and data visualisation tools (Power BI)
- Experience operating in multi-market or regional roles
- Project management and business case development experience
