Core purpose of the role
The Internal Audit Manager’s role is to ensure that the operational issues arising in the divisions under their control are well managed. They are responsible, personally, for the effective execution of all audits within their department. Their responsibility for the entire audit process extends from the planning and development of timetables to the reporting and risk management processes, including drafting reports to the Audit Committees.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND OUTPUTS
Strategic / Financial:
- Supports the achievement of strategic objectives through a risk-based audit approach and participation in the development of the annual audit plan
- Enhances governance and risk management by evaluating controls, monitoring audit findings, and promoting the combined assurance model
- Protects organisational value by identifying control weaknesses, operational inefficiencies, compliance risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Contributes to sound financial stewardship through oversight of audit costs, resource utilisation, budget monitoring, and departmental productivity targets.
- Provides assurance and insight to Executive Management and the Audit Committee, supporting informed strategic and operational decision-making.
- Drives continuous improvement initiatives within the internal audit function and promotes the use of technology to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Drive and maintain quality assurance and risk management processes.
- Promote and implement the combined assurance model
- Deliver internal projects aimed at continuous improvement and alignment with IIA standards and best practices.
- Review Group risk management processes.
- Evaluate governance and control environments
- Participate in Audit Committee reporting and governance processes.
- Lead sensitive investigations where required.
Operational:
- Ensure a risk-based audit approach is applied consistently in the execution of audits. Deliver audit assignments according to approved plans, timetables, and quality standards.
- Review and approve audit workpapers, audit findings, and management reports to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Ensure audit documentation and workpapers meet quality standards.
- Ensure compliance with Internal Audit standards and methodologies.
- Monitor and track audit findings, corrective actions, and follow-up activities.
- Prepare and submit Audit Committee reports and related documentation within prescribed deadlines.
- Maintain audit coverage targets, reporting timelines, productivity measures, and departmental performance standards.
- Monitor audit budgets, costs, resource utilisation, and chargeable hours to ensure efficient operations.
- Drive quality assurance, risk management, and continuous improvement initiatives within the Internal Audit function.
- Organise and attend pre-audit and close-out meetings.
- Maintain the audit findings tracking schedule.
- Ensure achievement of audit plan coverage targets.
- Review monthly timesheets, leave requests, and expense claims.
- The role involves a combination of audit fieldwork and people management responsibilities.
- Requires travel within Gauteng, across South Africa, and periodically into Africa and other countries where the organisation operates.
Stakeholders:
- The role serves a broad range of internal and external stakeholders by providing independent assurance, risk management insight, governance oversight, and recommendations that support effective decision-making and control environments across the organisation.
- Obtain and monitor Client Service Satisfaction feedback.
- Achieve client satisfaction targets and implement improvement recommendations.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with management and business stakeholders. Regular interaction with management and contributing towards improving the reputation of BGIAS across the organization.

Academic qualifications
Essential:
· BCom or BSc Degree
· Postgraduate Accounting Qualification
· Certified Internal Auditor (CIA (SA))
· Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
Work experience
Essential:
· 7–10 years' Internal Audit experience.
· Exposure to auditing across operational and support function environments.
· Experience managing, developing and leading audit teams.
· Experience engaging and influencing Executive Management and Audit Committees.
· Industry experience advantageous.
Knowledge
Essential:
· Corporate financial management and reporting practices
· Knowledge of IIA, COBIT and other relevant standards
· Excellent audit technical knowledge and understanding of risk principles.

- To run the after sales department and ensure adherence to good customer service protocol, and generate turnover,
- Leading the service operational team in a branch, giving stakeholders a targeted return on investment.
- Development and marketing of component rebuild products and solutions to all internal and external customers.
- To provide solutions for all Caterpillar equipment customers and to increase parts and service sales.
- To drive profitable parts and service growth within the organization by realizing targeted returns for all key stakeholders, providing all EMP and non EMP customers with the lowest total owning and operating costs over the life of the machine.
Qualification, Experience and Competencies
- Qualified Artisan or Applicable Engineering Diploma / Degree.
- B. Engineering degree or B. Tech diploma.
- Bachelor Marketing, Business Administration and Commercial Sales.
- Minimum 5-7 years of which Minimum 3 years management experience in the customer interface.
- Good communication (written, verbal and presentation) and negotiation skills
- Marketing and Sales experience Preferable.
- Ability to work independently, under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Willing to travel as and when required
- Show initiative by thinking creatively.
- Computer literacy (including relevant SAP & CRM exposure).
- Good knowledge of Caterpillar components and relevant industry.
- Business development skills and knowledge.

- Operational and Technical Responsibilities
Agri Products Operations
- Conduct regular field inspections to ensure optimal plant operation across dewatering, drying, storage systems (Gluten 20, Gluten 60, Germ), CSL, and Effluent processes.
- Monitor and control critical process parameters including flow, baume, pressure, vacuum, tank levels, and product quality.
- Monitor cooling water tower levels and temperatures.
- Collect and analyse product and process samples including germ, gluten 20, gluten 60, CSL, and effluent.
- Maintain housekeeping standards through a "clean as you go" approach.
- Operate forklifts and/or bobcats as required.
- Issue and manage work permits in accordance with safety procedures.
- Conduct routine process monitoring and field inspections.
- Perform first-line troubleshooting and implement corrective actions where necessary.
Starch Operations
- Ensure effective starch preparation, dewatering, drying, transportation, and filtrate reconcentration processes.
- Conduct field inspections to ensure optimal plant operation and prevent tank overflows.
- Ensure plant sterilisation procedures are carried out effectively and consistently.
- Collect process and quality control samples.
- Monitor and maintain chemical inventory levels, including soda ash, hydrogen peroxide, and CIP chemicals.
- Operate forklifts and/or bobcats as required.
- Issue work permits in accordance with established procedures.
- Adhere to Behaviour-Based Safety (BBS) requirements.
- Replace dryer filters and support routine maintenance activities.
