MAINTENANCE MANAGER
R 822 887, 22 Total Cost of Employment per annum
Permanent Position
Reporting to: Director Operations
Purpose: To execute the Artscape maintenance plan in accordance with the highest standards associated with the organization and its brand.
Main Duties:
· Ensuring a comprehensive preventative maintenance program is implemented and ensuring that all essential infrastructure is serviced and maintained in a manner that prolongs the lifespan of the infrastructure
· Ensuring that all routine maintenance is done in a way that would not interfere or disrupt business activities
· Maintain and manage electronic maintenance logging system
· Assign and reviews work for maintenance technicians and give feedback
· Manage relationships with contractors and service providers
· Coordinate and work with Provincial Government Western Cape and outside contractors.
· Log maintenance issues with Provincial Government Western Cape helpdesk and follow up on progress
· Attend monthly meetings with Provincial Government Western Cape or as necessary.
· Annually complete and submit to Provincial Government Western Cape Artscape’s User Asset Management Plan
· Continuously up skill and develop the maintenance staff
· Maintain and manage discipline of staff
· Evaluate employee's performance to determine training needs & development opportunities.
· Prepare reports and provide all relevant information to the Director Operations pertaining to preventative maintenance programs, capital work projects, etc.
· Complete requisitions for parts needed for repairs of infrastructure as appropriate.
· Establish strategies to meet workload demands on time.
· Regularly inspect building infrastructure including main HVAC and electrical infrastructure installed in the plant room and report any faults to PGWC
· Act as cover for electricians as and when required
· Prepare weekly duty roster of maintenance staff
· Manage overtime
· Attend to emergencies after hours as and when required
Educational & Experience Requirements
· Matric Certificate
· Qualified Electrician with wireman’s license
· A minimum of 5 years’ experience in theatre maintenance
· Strong knowledge of facilities machinery and equipment
· Good all-rounder with experience in Electrical, Plumbing, Electronics, HVAC, and construction trades
· Sound knowledge of refrigeration and aircon units, industrial generators, etc.
· Sound knowledge in the working operation of theatre automation (stage machinery and flying system)
· Well versed in all maintenance process and health and Safety regulations
· Solid understanding of electrical systems, plumbing and carpentry

EXTERNAL VACANCIES
EPWP INTERN – PLUMBER (GRADUATE) X1
Stipend per day: Graduate (3-year qualification) – R 243 per day
Contract Period: Date of assumption of duty (tbc) until 31 March 2027
Internship (8-month position)
The Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) is implemented by the agency for the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS).
Reporting to: Director Operations / Plumber
Purpose: The Graduate will support Artscape’s Maintenance Department within the Plumbing sub‑section. They will form part of the Maintenance team, assisting with and taking responsibility for plumbing maintenance and repairs. All activities must ensure compliance with safety regulations, NHBRC standards, and Plumbing regulations.
Main Duties: Duties will include, but are not limited to:
• Assist with the repair and do preventative maintenance work to all the plumbing systems in Artscape buildings
• Perform the duties as specified within the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Plumbing Regulations and the relevant legislation
• Assist the Plumber in ensuring that the Artscape infrastructure is always optimally available
Educational & Experience Requirements
• N3 or Grade 12 qualification or NTC 3 minimum.
• Completed a recognized Diploma/Degree (Statement of Results must be attached).
• Certified Red Seal plumber artisan.
• Grade 12 Certificate (Statement of Results must be attached).
• Working knowledge of plumbing regulations, equipment, and tools.
Further Requirements
· Preparedness for overtime, including call-outs during weekends, public holidays, and evening productions as required.
· Proactive mindset with strong problem-solving ability.
· Ability to work collaboratively within a team and under supervision.
· Must reside in the Western Cape (proof of address required).
· Age between 18–35 years.
· Must be articulate in at least two predominant languages of the Western Cape (English, Afrikaans, IsiXhosa).
· South African citizenship required.
· No criminal convictions or pending cases.

· Strong written communication skills in English.
· Creative thinking and problem-solving ability.

AD-HOC ASSISTANT STAGE MANAGER (X1)
Remuneration will be aligned to the company remuneration policy
We are looking to appoint an Ad-hoc Assistant Stage Manager into a pool to be assigned to various productions.
Reporting to: Director Operations
Purpose: To assist in all aspects of stage management and ensure the smooth running of productions.
Main Duties:
· Assist with marking out the rehearsal room floor according to the designer’s ground plan.
· Source stage props for rehearsals and performances.
· Set up stage props according to the needs of the rehearsal and performance.
· Be responsible for the safekeeping and maintenance of stage props during rehearsals and performances.
· Prepare an accurate Assistant Stage Manager track/plot.
· Support the Stage Manager in coordinating all aspects of rehearsals and performances.
· Ensure the smooth running of productions within the assigned area of responsibility.
· Study scripts, scores, and other production materials as needed.
· Arrange for props and rehearsal costumes to be available when required.
· Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety regulations.
· Keep the Stage Manager and Director informed about any issues.
· Maintain accurate props and scene change records of each production.
· Oversee scene and props setups and ensure smooth scene transitions.
Educational Requirements
· Matric qualification (or equivalent)
· Computer literacy (MS Word / Excel)
Further Requirements
· Minimum of 1 year experience as an Assistant Stage Manager
· Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and overtime when required
· Knowledge of basic first aid is advantageous
· Experience in Project Management will be advantageous
· Knowledge of the industry and a passion for the arts would be advantageous
