ABOUT THE JOB:
The role of a Legal Advisor is responsible to provide legal support to enable effective contract management, compliance tracking, and dispute resolution coordination while ensuring adherence to legislative and governance frameworks.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential:
- LLB Degree or Relevant Bachelor's Degree qualification in Law, Corporate Governance, Commercial Law, Regulatory Law, or related field
Essential:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in legal advisory, commercial law, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, or litigation management
- Exposure to drafting and reviewing standard contracts, legal documents, or policy instruments under supervision.
- Basic understanding of commercial, governance, and regulatory legal principles.
- Experience assisting with legal research, compliance monitoring, and administrative legal support.
- Exposure to legal advisory support within a team environment, with increasing responsibility over time.
- Ability to escalate complex legal issues and work under guidance of senior legal practitioners.

CRITICAL PERFORMANCE AREA
Provide expert legal advisory services
- Provide legal support and advice on routine commercial, contractual, and governance matters under supervision.
- Assist in interpreting legislation, policies, and procedures into clear guidance for operational use.
- Support identification of legal and governance risks and escalate complex issues to senior advisors.
- Provide input to day-to-day operational queries requiring standard legal interpretation.
- Assist in preparing legal opinions, briefs, and advisory notes for review by senior legal staff.
- Support documentation of legal guidance to ensure consistency in application.
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and legal agreements
- Draft and review standard contracts, MOUs, SLAs, and template-based legal documents.
- Ensure contracts comply with approved templates, policies, and governance requirements.
- Support review of basic contractual clauses including terms, warranties, and standard liability provisions.
- Assist in contract administration, including tracking renewals, amendments, and documentation updates.
- Escalate non-standard or high-risk contractual issues to senior legal advisors.
- Maintain accurate contract records and filing systems.
Ensure legal compliance and regulatory adherence
- Assist in monitoring legislative and regulatory updates relevant to organisational activities.
- Support implementation of compliance requirements through administrative and operational guidance.
- Contribute to preparation of compliance reports and documentation.
- Assist in updating policies, procedures, and compliance checklists.
- Identify basic compliance gaps and escalate risks where necessary.
- Support awareness of compliance obligations across business units.
Support litigation, dispute resolution, and legal risk management
- Assist in managing routine disputes, claims, and legal queries under supervision.
- Support preparation of documentation for external legal counsel.
- Maintain records of disputes, claims, and legal matters.
- Assist in tracking legal risk registers and updating case status information.
- Support administrative coordination of dispute resolution processes.
- Escalate complex or high-risk legal matters to senior legal advisors.
KNOWLEDGE & FUNCTIONAL SKILLS:
· Basic to working knowledge of South African legal frameworks, including contract law, administrative law, and regulatory compliance.
· Ability to interpret legislation, policies, and procedures into practical guidance under supervision.
· Working knowledge of standard contract drafting using templates and approved legal instruments.
· Ability to identify basic legal risks and escalate complex or high-risk matters appropriately.
· Ability to conduct legal research on routine matters using statutes, case law, and internal policies.
· Exposure to dispute resolution processes, including administrative and preparatory support to legal matters.
· Ability to draft, review, and summarise standard legal documents and communicate basic legal concepts clearly.

ABOUT THE JOB
To deliver sound project management, engineering, and technical services and advice across complex, high-risk, large-scale, multi-disciplinary acquisition projects, ensuring capability alignment, technical assurance, and lifecycle value.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Grade 12.
· BTech/ B.Sc. or B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering.
· Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related technical discipline.
TECHNICAL / LEGAL CERTIFICATION / PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATION
· ECSA Registration (Essential).
· Project Management (Essential).
EXPERIENCE
· Minimum of 10 years’ experience in engineering project management, acquisition, or related technical disciplines, including at least 3 years in a senior engineering or equivalent role, with demonstrated success in leading complex engineering projects.
· Proven leadership in contract management and negotiation across the full acquisition lifecycle, ensuring technical integrity and alignment with programme objectives.
· Strong end-to-end systems engineering lifecycle expertise, including requirements definition, system integration, verification, and lifecycle cost optimisation.
· Demonstrated experience in high-value acquisition and procurement processes, including technical specification development, bid evaluations, and contract implementation.
· Sound application of engineering governance, risk management, and international standards within capital project or defence-related environments.
CRITICAL PERFORMANCE AREAS
Lead the development of engineering and technical requirements for complex, high-risk, large-scale, multi-disciplinary acquisition projects to ensure fit-for-purpose solutions.
· Elicit, analyse, and validate requirements to define clear specifications and use cases aligned with capability and client needs.
· Define system architecture, interfaces, and integration points, producing architecture diagrams and interface control documents to minimise integration risks.
· Identify, assess, and mitigate technical risks by maintaining risk registers and implementing mitigation plans to reduce project delays and cost overruns.
· Ensure compliance with organisational, industry, and regulatory standards, producing audit-ready documentation and technical artefacts.
· Develop and oversee verification and validation plans to ensure all requirements are measurable, testable, and achievable.

· Extensive experience in developing specifications, tailoring technical requirements, and managing contracting processes, applicable to both complex and non-complex systems, platforms, and integrated solutions.
· Comprehensive understanding of regulatory and compliance frameworks (e.g., PFMA, Defence Regulations, ISO quality standards), with practical application to maintain accountability, minimize risk, and avoid project delays.

· Extensive knowledge of NRTA/MILITARY/SAMSA requirements.
· Good technical knowledge of vehicles or Maritime Systems (including boats).
