Our public purpose mandate is set out in the Human Sciences Research Council Act of 2008. The Equitable Education and Economies (EEE) division undertakes research to transform educational outcomes and increase economic participation. It recognises that education and the economy have long been linked, and conducts research to understand educational performance and improve learning outcomes, and to interrogate social, spatial and structural obstacles to economic participation. The Dynamics of Agrofood Systems and Innovation (DASI) sub-unit within EEE, is currently undertaking a series of research projects on the global 'One Food' initiative and the Agrarian Rural Household Economy study. This workstream promotes a holistic approach to agrofood value chains with a focus on equitable quality of life and human wellbeing outcomes. Targeting adequate food and nutrition for all, this research contributes to ecological and transformative food production, trade and distribution without harming the environment and carbon emissions. As part of this stream of research, DASI is looking to appoint 4 x Senior Researchers for a period of one (1) year with an interest in economics research. The successful incumbent will be providing strategic leadership to drive HSRC’s response to youth unemployment through various capacity and skills development initiatives including internships.
