POSITION: ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH PRACTITIONER
TASK GRADE : TK12
SALARY SCALE : R445 516.00 – R578 292.00 per annum Excl. benefits

Requirements:
- National Diploma in Environmental Health - NQF Level 6.
- Registration with Health Professions Council of S.A.
- Registered as a Peace Officer will be an added advantage.
- 1 – 3 Years relevant experience.
- Excellent working knowledge of Environmental Health legislation and its application.
Competencies:
- Competence in report writing and oral communication.
- Ability to negotiate and resolve complex problems.
- Attention to detail.
- Assertiveness when addressing compliance issues.
- Ability to work independently.
Responsibilities include:
- Ensuring safe drinking water provision to and safe waste water disposal in communities living Gert Sibande District Municipality.
- Ensuring that communities have access to safe food in respect of acceptable microbiological, chemical and hygiene standards for consumption within Gert Sibande District community.
- Ensuring safe waste management services that promote and ensure minimum risk to the health and safety of communities living in Gert Sibande District community
- Ensuring that buildings and facilities meant for community use do not pose health risks to the communities of Gert Sibande District Municipality.
- Collecting, analyzing and disseminating epidemiological data and information at sub-district.
- Implementing programs for elimination, prevention and control of vectors in communities living in Gert Sibande District.
- Implementing approved programs to ensure effective regulation of facilities handling and disposing of radiation materials in Gert Sibande District.
- Implementing programs and projects to ensure proper management of human remains within communities living in Gert Sibande District.
- Implementing programs to ensure safe chemical handling, transportation and disposal methods aimed at avoiding risk to the health of communities living in Gert Sibande District.
- Implementing programs to ensure that noise pollution do not pose health risk and that they promote and ensure minimum risk to the health and safety of communities living to the Gert Sibande District.
- Implementing approved programs to mitigate the negative health impact caused by environmental pollution within the communities living in Gert Sibande District.
- Implementing programs to ensure that environmental health/ municipal health related complaints are attended to in Gert Sibande District.
- Enforces specific procedures and measures on residents.
- Implement specific administrative and reporting requirements associated with the key performance and result indicators of the functionality.
- Promoting and supporting stakeholders and community participation in the affairs of the district.
- Implementing specific administrative and reporting requirements associated with set SDBIP and departmental annual targets
- Promoting and supporting stakeholders and community participation in the affairs of the district
- Ensuring human resource compliance of subordinates
- Ensuring compliance of subordinates with occupational health and safety
- Ensuring that assessments of subordinates are done on time and in line with the Gert Sibande District Municipality’s policies
- Ensuring audit compliance and risk in line with the Gert Sibande District Municipality’s policies
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME X2 POSTS FOR 12 MONTH CONTRACT
Requirements: National diploma / B- tech Environmental health and South African ID. The successful candidate will be working under supervision of the Environmental health practitioner in Gert Sibande district municipality in terms of the guidelines from the department of health and the health professional council.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Conducting water monitoring in order to ensure safe drinking water.
- Conduct inspections to ensure adequate and safe waste management services that promote minimum risk to health and safety.
- Attending to complaints related to health and safety nuisances (noisy dogs, cattle, goats) and pest animals.
- Conducting inspections to ensure that building and facilities for community use do not pose health risks to the public.
- Promoting health and hygiene aiming at preventing environmentally induced diseases and related communicable diseases.
- To implement approved programs and projects to ensure proper storage, handling, transportation and disposal of chemicals.
- Seeking approval and serving statutory notifications to stop or correct specific sequences to enable compliance.
- Completing details/ information on statutory notices indicating non-compliance to specific codes and regulations, forwarding for approval prior to serving on offenders.
As part of the selection process, candidates may be tested on any requirement, skill or competency, which will include pre-employment screening, security vetting and psychometric assessment.
