Duties and responsibilities: • Manage the curriculation processes of the departments. • Develop new learning programmes in consultation with stakeholders • Ensure frequent and continuous development and management of the operational plan of the programs. • Ensure that the activities of the programs are undertaken in accordance with the governance, policy and regulatory frameworks of the University. • Assume responsibility for the academic quality of the programs. • Manage the academic administration of the programs • Manage matters relating to teaching, learning, and students in the programs. • Provide academic advice in terms of academic inquiries, amendments of yearbooks, schedules, timetables, etc. related to the programs. • Serve on the marketing committee of the faculty as necessary. • Assist with marketing pamphlets or any suitable marketing material. • Assist with the selection and admission of students where applicable. • Assist with registration of students. • Oversee, check and manage timetable clashes in conjunction with the departments. • Check student records for correctness. • Check documents and records for graduations, submitting corrections where needed. Inherent requirements: • PhD on NQF Level 10 in Physical/Chemical sciences, or related field. • A full-time, permanent member of the academic staff of the faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences at the University of the Free State (UFS). Recommendations: • Good management skills. • Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written). • Ability to function with ease in the university’s richly diverse working environment.. • Strategic thinking. • Good organizational skills and administrative abilities • Good computer skills (skilled use of Microsoft office software). Minimum Requirements for Senior Lecturer • A PhD Degree in a relevant discipline; • Evidence of appropriate teaching experience in a relevant field at the tertiary level; • Evidence of current and sustained research publication record in quality scientific journals, appropriate for the level; • A track record of successful supervision of postgraduate students at Masters’ and/or PhD levels, appropriate for the level AND • Demonstrated ability to apply for research grants, either as the Principal Investigator or as a member of a team. Minimum requirements for Lecturer • A Master’s degree in the relevant discipline; • Experience in teaching and learning, and assessment practices in a relevant field at a tertiary institution; • Ability to make the necessary preparation and coordination of various teaching and examination schedules within the Discipline AND • Evidence of involvement in community engagement programs. A successful candidate at the Lecturer level will be expected to complete a PhD within 5 years of the date of assumption of duty. Specialization in aural rehabilitation, cochlear implants and AVT training would be an advantage. Experience in student training and research supervision would be an advantage. COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES COMMUNITY FACILITATOR (x2) (9 MONTH CONTRACT) CENTRE FOR RURAL HEALTH SCHOOL OF NURSING AND PUBLIC HEALTH REFERENCE: ASENZE CRH9 Asenze is a Research Project based at the Centre for Rural Health within the School of Nursing and Public Health at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. This study is conducted in collaboration with the University of Columbia and is funded by the National Institutes of Mental Health (NIMH). The Asenze study is in its 5th wave (3-year grant) with a current focus on the transition of the adolescent cohort into young adulthood. The study aims to investigate the ongoing impact of changes in the social determinants of health (SDOH) on the mental health of the adolescent/young adult cohort and their primary caregivers. The project is looking to employ 2 Community facilitators, who will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to trace participants, drive the study team to participants homes, and conduct other data collection-related activities. The incumbent must reside within the Valley of 1000hills area, specifically Molweni, KwaNyuswa, Embo, Ngcolosi or Qadi and be comfortable driving a manual vehicle within this area. This appointment is based at the site office, based in Bothas Hill, KZN. The incumbent must be comfortable with flexible working hours, including early mornings and weekends. Minimum Requirements: • Senior certificate • Currently resides within the Valley of 1000 Hills area (specifically Molweni, KwaNyuswa, Embo, Ngcolosi or Qadi) with extensive knowledge of the area • Fluency in Zulu and English • Driver's license and able to drive a manual vehicle Advantages: • Experience in data collection • Familiarity with GPS units such as Garmin The project does not cover any relocation costs.
