Position Purpose
To provide specialist legal advice and counselling to management and employees in regard to employment related and Employment Equity matters.
The jobholder assists and renders an Employee Relations support function and advises in the promotion of Labour peace and minimising conflict and thus ensures employee stability, satisfaction and that productivity are maintained.

The jobholder provides a further support service mainly to the Region, as well to the Organisation with regards to:
• Grievances and discipline management
• Industrial Action
• CCMA arbitration's/ conciliation disputes
• Employer and employee/ Trade Union rights
• Alleged discriminatory practices
• Affirmative action activities
• Human Rights• Unfair labour practices
• All employment laws i.e. Equity Bill, Basic Conditions of Service Act, Transnet Policies, Labour Relations Act, etc.
• Administrative functions
• Attendance of Regional Business Meetings
 
Position Outputs
Assess and mitigate risk to the Company in regards to employment related best practices and procedures and provide advice and counselling in an HR advisory role
• To manage the implementation of Transnet Port Terminal's employee relations strategy in line with the Group ER strategy, which create an environment conducive to employee satisfaction and high levels of productivity and which limit the Transnet Port Terminal's risk in the areas of labour relations.
• Ensure the effective implementation of the Group Employee Relations strategy in Transnet Port Terminals so that it is achieved within time, budget and quality requirements.
• Ensure the implementation of appropriate Employee Relations policies that facilitate the achievement of the Group ER Strategy.
• Ensure effective communication and liaison with labour in order to create awareness of the Employee Relations' Strategy, plan and policies and buy into ensuring their effective implementation within Transnet Port Terminals.
• Oversee the ongoing evaluation of employee relations initiative undertaken by TPT, ensuring their alignment with the strategic imperatives of the Group and their contribution to the improved performance of TPT employees; also ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
• Provide direction to TPT Regional EXCO (General Manager, Executive managers, senior managers and employees) on all new and existing legislation and Transnet initiatives and implement accordingly. This includes benchmarking against the port terminal related norms and advising TPT management and Group of trends and prevention of Risk in the labour business.
• Produce reports (including recommendations, best practice, benchmarking, trends and risks) and submit to Senior Manager for TPT EXCO reporting. To oversee discipline and grievance management and relationship management across Transnet Port Terminal in all Regions by: o Implementing
o Implementing the Transnet disciplinary and grievance procedure across the Transnet Port Terminal and the Regions ensuring a consistent application of the procedure by designing and implementing appropriate strategies and systems.
o Ensure that the standard and quality of disciplinary and grievance management are in line with the Group requirements so that they reflect best practice and accord with the requirements of the law.
o Ensure the effective SAP HCM ER module system or any relevant reporting tool capable of generating monthly reports on all discipline and grievance cases and all disputes filed as a result of grievances and disciplinary cases.
o Implement measures to improve the capacity of managers to better manage grievances and discipline
o Implementing appropriate training
o To brief and liaise with attorneys on employee related legal matters
o To assist, where required in negotiations
o Management of industrial action and regional conflicts
o Conduct research into particular employee relations issues incl. reading of legal cases to support options of advice relating to dispute, internal processes
 
Qualifications and Experience
Qualifications, Experience & Inherent Job Requirements • 3 Year Degree in Labour Relations/ or Human Resource related Degree is required • At least 5 years' experience in providing generalist labour relations advisory service to executives and management within a large sized organisation. TPT ROC Requirements: Job Evaluation criteria: • Minimum of 8 years Experience with Applicable bachelor’s degree/National Higher Diploma Years of Experience with a formal qualification: • Min 5 years’ relevant experience in a large enterprise of which at least 2 years at managerial level or specialist experience Typical Qualifications: • Relevant qualification (NQF 7) • Transnet leadership Development Programme (advantage) Number of years with certificates or no formal qualification: • 9 years relevant and solid experience in supervising activities, diagnostic and quality of workflow and procedures; Quality execution of work, within the defined operating procedures, standards and working routines. Or provide technical guidance/expertise. Execution of work ensuring compliance with at least 3 yrs at supervisory/ managerial level or specialist experience

Position Purpose
Assist the Train Driver in the safe and efficient driving/handling of all different types of trains/locomotives consists (airbrake, vacuum, high speed, heavy haul and passengers) to ensure that the customers freight/cargo reaches its destination in good condition, on time, in order to enable the organization to satisfy the customer needs.
 
Position Outputs
1. Sign on duty at designated workplace and be allocated duties to be performed for the duration of the shift. •Determine which locomotive to be prepared. •Obtain and place equipment on locomotive. •Check and supplement prescribed equipment. •Clean working area •Assist with starting up of locomotive as prescribed assist with locomotive brake tests. •Couple locomotive •Sign on duty •Despatch locomotive 2.Prepare locomotives. •Determine which locomotive to be prepared. •Obtain and place equipment on locomotive. •Check and supplement prescribed equipment. •Clean working area •Assist with starting up of locomotives as prescribed. •Assist with locomotive brake tests. 3. Comply to safety standards and laid down instruction to ensure that he is well motivated and competent. 8. Provide accurate feedback timeously to the Train Driver regarding any incidents and deviations along the route. 9. Assist in performing various administration duties. 10.
