LECTURER: MATHEMATICS EDUCATION
PEROMNES 08, PERMANENT
REFERENCE NO: WSU MTH EXT 2024/51
The Department of Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education wishes to recruit a suitably qualified and experienced academic who will add value to the department. Responsibilities of the appointed academic will include teaching and learning, research, community engagement, curriculum development, programme coordination and providing administration support to the Department and Faculty in pursuit of academic objectives.
Minimum requirements:
- Master’s degree in mathematics education OR
- Master’s degree in mathematics with a teaching qualification in Mathematics.
- Doctoral qualification in Mathematics Education will be added as advantage.
Experience:
- A minimum of 2 years lecturing/teaching experience.
Key Performance Areas:
- Lecture Mathematics Education and Mathematics Teaching in the Senior and FET Phases.
- Assess students during School Based Experience (SBE) i.e. Teaching Practice activities.
- Conduct research and publish in accredited journals.
- Supervise postgraduate students.
- Promote and participate in community engagement activities in accordance with university policies.
- Perform academic administrative duties, including curricula design, related to teaching and learning.
- Liaise with academic and non-academic units and external parties in a responsible and professional manner.
- Undertake any other departmental or faculty duties as may be required by the department HOD.
Skills or Competencies Required:
- Ability to work with the lecturers of the different majors in the programme.
- Ability to work independently and as a team player.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Possess applied Practical and Professional Content knowledge and skills in the field of Mathematics Education.
- Extensive knowledge of various online teaching platforms including Microsoft Teams, WiseUp and Zoom is an advantage.
- Knowledge and experience in institutional research.
- Computer skills.
- Work in a professional manner with students and other members of staff.
- Must be in possession of a valid driver’s licence.

LECTURER (P8) PERMANENT

Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Health Professional Education, Public Health or any clinical discipline
Bachelor of Medicine in Clinical Practice (BMCP)
Registration (or registerable) with Health Professions Council of South Africa.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years lecturing experience in Bachelor Clinical Practise in an institution of higher learning or
4 years of experience working as a Clinical Associate
Evidence of research publication/conference presentations will be an added advantage.
Key Performance Areas:
● Prepare and deliver lectures, as well as assess undergraduate students in the Bachelor of Medicine Clinical Practice (BMCP).
● Prepare and regularly update curriculums and course material for lectures in accordance with SAQA, CHE, DHET, and HPCSA requirements and maintain quality assurance.
● Coordinate all student programmes within the department as per required standard operating requirements.
● Participate in departmental activities, including research, continuous professional development, Community engagement, partnerships, and collaboration strengthening.
● Contribute towards Faculty and Departmental research initiatives.
● Contribute to Academic citizenship and provide Faculty and University service.
● Assist with Academic Administration and Quality Assurance initiatives at the teaching site.
● Clinical Service, including bedside teaching.
Skills and Competencies Required:
Demonstrated abilities to teach undergraduate students.
Problem Based Learning (PBL) Teaching skill.
Ability to mentor and guide students in their academic and career development, providing feedback and support for research projects.
Commitment to ongoing research, staying updated with advancements, and incorporating relevant findings into teaching.
Strong collaborative skills, working effectively with colleagues, industry professionals, and fostering a collaborative learning environment.
Proactive approach to improving teaching methods, integrating new technologies, and seeking feedback for self-improvement.

LIBRARIAN (P8) PERMANENT

Qualifications:
Degree in Library & Information Science or Post Graduate Diploma in Library & Information Science or B Tech in Library & Information Science.
Experience:
More than five years’ working experience in an Academic Library, preferably in a Higher Education environment.
Key Performance Areas:
Manage all Centre library operations.
Assist with orienting new staff and students on the library systems and databases.
Develop and review procedures related to lending and returning library materials, as well as maintaining the physical collection.
Oversee and resolve billing, patron information, and customer service issues.
Provides reference research assistance to students, faculty, and other affiliated patrons.
Manages and assesses library space for students and the physical collections; plans and oversees rearrangements of the collections.
Facilitate academic liaison between Library services and faculty/departments by means of regular visits.
Maintains statistics tracking the use of the physical collection.
Experience in a Health or Medical library environment will be advantageous.
Participate in shelf reading and stock-taking of library material.
Skills and Competencies Required:
Ability to use SIERRA Circulation Module.
Good technical skills, including proficiency in MS Office.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
