The incumbent will report to the Head of Department of Sociology.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Possession of a doctoral degree (PhD) in Sociology / Industrial Sociology.
- Minimum 3 - 5 years’ teaching experience at a Higher Education institution.
- Either:
- Competence in communicating knowledge and facilitating teaching and learning in a lecture, seminar, tutorial and/or practical or laboratory environment; in assessment practices; potential to engage in curriculum design and development, and a demonstrated ability to undertake research; or
- A thorough understanding of fundamental research methodology and competence in facilitating research tutorials/seminars and practical sessions; and/or undertaking research projects, production of research reports and conduction of tutorials and/or practical sessions.
- Ability or potential to supervise research and develop research capacity.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake administrative responsibilities at departmental or institutional levels.
- Ability and willingness to participate in community engagement projects.
- Sound interpersonal skills.
- Competence in respect of service at the level of Lecturer or Researcher, demonstrating that the applicant is being recognised by the academic community for producing sound scholarship in either the teaching or research categories.
- Ability to teach well at different academic levels, commensurate with the nature of the post to which the applicant was previously appointed.
- An interest in and engagement with the theory of teaching and learning, participation in teaching development programmes, and management of academic programmes.
- Ongoing research activity and dissemination of research findings, including a reasonable record of publications in accredited and/or internationally-recognised research journals, commensurate with the applicant’s discipline and the nature of the post to which the applicant was previously appointed.
- Ability to supervise research of higher degree candidates and to develop research capacity.
- Service to the University either at departmental or institutional level.
- Ability to take on administrative responsibilities at departmental level.
- Academic and/or professional participation at national and/or international level.
- Community engagement activity.
- Sound interpersonal skills, including a commitment to collegiality and equal opportunity.
- A qualification in the assessment of learning at NQF Level 7/8, or an equivalent teaching qualification; alternatively, a qualification in postgraduate supervision at NQF Level 7/8, or an equivalent postgraduate supervision qualification.
PREFERENCE
- Registration with the South African Sociology Association (SASA).

The incumbent will report to the Head of Department of Recreation and Tourism.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Possession of a Master’s degree in Tourism.
- Minimum of 2 years’ teaching experience at a Higher Education institution.
- Either:

DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH
NEW GENERATION ACADEMIC PROGRAM (NGAP) LECTURER POSITION

UNIZULU is a comprehensive University offering degree, diploma and certificate courses across its Faculties of Humanities and Social Sciences; Education; Science, Agriculture and Engineering; and Commerce, Administration and Law at the Kwa Dlangezwa and Richards Bay campuses. Applications are invited from suitable qualified interested parties to fill the position indicated above.
The position is based at the University of Zululand and is a permanent position. The Lecturer will be reporting to the Head of the Department (HoD) / Mentor.
The incumbent will be developed to be enabled to:
- plan and manage student learning process by teaching preparation/planning, teaching, assessing students' work, monitoring and evaluation learning process, reporting on teaching and learning achievement, and challenges in the subject field of teaching expertise.
- supervise and undertake research at undergraduate and postgraduate levels across faculties and/or relevant fields of study.
S/he must show initiative and enthusiasm in working as a team player in the department. S/he will be required to provide guidance to learners in mastering key skills in the field.
The university is seeking candidates who want to become career academics. Mentorship and training programs will be provided. The ideal candidate would be a postgraduate student who has just completed their Master’s degree and wants to work towards their PhD.
A Total Remunerative Package of R 541 366.00 per annum (inclusive of benefits) would be offered.
KEY ACTIVITIES
TEACHING
- Design and develop course material.
- Teach the undergraduate students.
- Set mark/evaluate assignments, tutorials and examinations.

RESEARCH
- Engage in research in the fields of English.

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
- Assist with administrative duties such as time tabling, invigilating, registration and students’ records.
- Participate in University Committees.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- A Master’s Degree in English with a minimum pass mark of 70% (Academic record to be included in the application).
- Teaching experience in the above-mentioned fields would be an advantage, but it is not essential.
- The incumbent must demonstrate that they would want to become a career academic.
- The incumbent must be prepared to register for her/his PhD programme.

The successful candidate will be expected to sign an NGAP development contract for a maximum period 6 years.
