The School of Pharmacy at the University of the Western Cape has a strong focus on patient and service orientated education, building on a sound scientific base and active research. The School intends to appoint an experienced Academic Pharmacists or Clinical Pharmacologists to complement and enhance both teaching and research expertise in pharmacology and clinical pharmacy.
 
The successful candidates will be responsible for the following:
  1. Facilitate learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels on campus and in clinical settings;
  2. Conduct research and publish in appropriate high impact journals;
  3. Undergraduate and postgraduate supervision;
  4. Curriculum development, assessment and the continuous improvement of the academic programme
  5. Community engagement and outreach;
  6. Manage academic administration;
 
Minimum Requirements


For the post of Senior Lecturer, the following criteria shall apply:
  1. A BPharm, MBChB or related degree AND a PhD (Clinical Pharmacy, Pharmacology or Clinical Pharmacology), or a PharmD, or a Masters in Clinical Pharmacy and at least 5 years of clinical experience.
  2. Registration with the appropriate Professional Council (SAPC or HPCSA) to practice in South Africa.
  3. Teaching and practice experience with a student centred and innovative approach towards teaching and learning.
  4. A record of relevant high-quality accredited publications and experience of postgraduate research supervision.
 
For the post of Lecturer, the following criteria shall apply:
  1. A BPharm, MBChB or related degree AND a Masters degree in Clinical Pharmacy, Pharmacology or Clinical Pharmacology.
  2. Registration with the appropriate Professional Council (SAPC or HPCSA) to practice in South Africa.
  3. Teaching and practice experience with a student centred and innovative approach towards teaching and learning.
  4. A record of relevant publications and some experience of postgraduate supervision or mentorship.
 
Advantages for the appointment:
  1. A track record of developing research projects and securing funding would be an advantage;
  2. Collaborative partnerships with academic institutions, government departments, community health and/or research organisations.
  3. Active working experience as a pharmacist in a clinical environment.

The UWC CoLab for e-Inclusion and Social Innovation, located in the Institutional Planning unit, plays a thought leadership role in terms of an increasingly digitized society. The CoLab forms part of national network of 8 universities in collaboration with national government and industry partners to contribute towards the national digital skills agenda, focusing on practical interventions, research and advocacy.

An exciting opportunity exists in the CoLab, for suitably qualified candidate(s) to engage in innovative research initiatives related to the dynamics of a digitally transforming society and the implications for individual, institutional and societal inclusion and well-being.
The primary purpose of these positions is to engage in evidence based research in order to contribute towards policy and strategy development, identify and support interventions, and to support the advocacy role of the CoLab and the University.
 
The Researchers will report to the Director: CoLab for e-Inclusion and Social Innovation and will be responsible for the following:
  1. Conceptualise and plan research initiatives in collaboration with CoLab partners/funders
  2. Design and execute research within budget and timelines
  3. Assessment instrument and methodology development as member of the transdisciplinary digital inclusion research network
  4. Perform Monitoring and Evaluation studies to assess intervention impact
  5. Mentor and/or supervise postgraduate students on this topic
  6. Contribute towards proposal writing and stakeholder engagements for funding opportunities
  7. Contribute towards the strategic research partnership with VUB, UGent and other relevant international institutions to enhance the north-south knowledge on the topic.
  8. Write research concept notes, research findings and reports
  9. Disseminate research findings internally and externally through relevant spaces i.e. webinars, seminars, participation in relevant government and industry bodies, contribution towards national and provincial digital skills think-tanks, fora and initiatives.
  10. Publish research findings through relevant spaces i.e. accredited journals, books, articles
 
Minimum Requirements (Qualification and Experience)
  1. A PhD degree in social sciences (e.g Information Systems, Psychology, Sociology) (NQF level 10)
  2. A minimum of 4-5 years of research experience in the field of digital transformation, digital inclusion and digital skills, preferably in a transdisciplinary and applied research context.
  3. Experience in qualitative and quantitative research methodology
  4. Experience in designing assessment scales and application of e-research tools (Qualtrics, ATLAS.ti, etc.)
  5. Experience with stakeholder engagement, workshop facilitation and community engagements
  6. Experience in performing M&E projects for funded digital inclusion initiatives
  7. Have a publication record (comprising peer reviewed and/or accredited journals, books or book chapters on reputable presses)

Accountable to the Program Director: Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program and reporting to the Program Director and the Manager: Business Intelligence in the Institutional Planning Office, the responsibilities of the Coordinator: Business Intelligence will include:
  1. Timely receipt of data from transaction operational processing systems;
  2. Validate and upload Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program data essential to the Foundation’s MIS and any other designated service provider platforms as needed;
  3. Design, generate, and deliver reports that meet specific business requirements;
  4. Adhere to fulfilling Service Level Agreements (SLAs) concerning report delivery schedules;
  5. Conduct rigorous quality control checks to ensure that UWC’s reports within the MIS are balanced and aligned with data from transaction operational processing systems;
  6. Investigate and resolve data variances comprehensively on a monthly and quarterly basis;
  7. Provide actionable intelligence to inform the Program Director of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program;
  8. Stay abreast of the latest business intelligence trends and technologies and suggest improvements for the Business Intelligence related to the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program;
  9. Compile, together with the Program Director, UWC’s monthly and quarterly reports on business intelligence matters of the Program for submission to the Mastercard Foundation.
 
Minimum Requirements (Qualification and Experience)
  1. A relevant bachelor’s degree at NQF 7 level or an Equivalent qualification in any of the following fields: mathematics, statistics, data science, or computer science.
  2. A minimum of 3 years of recent and relevant work experience in data analysis
 
The undermentioned would be an added advantage: 
  1. An honours degree (NQF 8 level) in either statistics, mathematics, computer science, economics, or other quantitative fields.
 
Required competencies (skills, knowledge, and behavioural attributes):
  1. Strong understanding of database management systems and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) framework.
  2. Proficiency in BI tools (such as SQL, Power BI, Tableau, etc.) and data analytics software.

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of the Western Cape invites applications for the position of Coordinator: Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E). The incumbent will be pivotal in managing, analysing, and coordinating the monitoring and evaluation activities related to the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.
 
The successful candidate will coordinate the collection and management of implementation evidence, facilitate the ongoing improvement of M&E plans, and the gathering of appropriate data to support accurate and timely reporting of information. The incumbent will also support decision-making processes related to monitoring, evaluation, and where applicable, the need for adjustments/realignment of the Program.
 
Accountable to the Program Director: Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program and reporting to the Program Director and the Institutional Planner the Coordinator: Monitoring and Evaluation’s responsibilities will include:
  1. Establish and coordinate strong monitoring and evaluation systems and plans for the activities and programmes of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at UWC;
  2. Design and implement data collection tools and capturing templates;
  3. Implement quality assurance procedures to support the Program’s monitoring and evaluation mandate;
  4. Coordinate data collection across various programmes and activities within the Program;
  5. Ensure quality assurance of the monitoring and evaluation data;
  6. Coordinate logistical/administrative arrangements related to data;
  7. Regularly analyse quantitative and qualitative data and prepare monitoring and evaluation progress reports in the format required;
  8. Provide alerts to the Program Director, including feedback, on emerging trends identified through M&E of the Scholars Program data to inform the need for interventions and/or realignment of the Program;
  9. Stay abreast of the latest monitoring and evaluation trends to support ongoing improvement of the Program;

The primary focus of this position is to provide comprehensive academic support to Mastercard Foundation Scholars at UWC to ensure their academic success. The Academic Coordinator: Postgraduate Studies will work with the faculty offices, the Research Development and Postgraduate Support department, academic staff and other postgraduate support structures at UWC to ensure that Mastercard Foundation Scholars receive comprehensive academic support for successful academic progression throughout their studies at UWC.

Accountable to the Program Director: Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program and reporting to the Program Director and Director: Research Development and Postgraduate Support, the responsibilities of the Academic Coordinator: Postgraduate Studies will include the following:
  1. Design and implement a year – round academic support programme for postgraduate Mastercard Foundation Scholars;
  2. Raise awareness of academic support programmes (e.g. writing workshops) and other related opportunities at UWC and facilitate the participation of Mastercard Foundation Scholars in these programmes;
  3. Facilitate the academic admission and enrolment of postgraduate Mastercard Foundation Scholars to UWC;
  4. Monitor and evaluate the academic progress of Mastercard Foundation Scholars, identify Scholars at risk and identify and implement interventions to support them;
  5. Regularly assess the support interventions so as to inform adjustments and realignments in the support programmes;
  6. Collate and maintain data/statistics on postgraduate Scholars of the Program; 
  7. Compile, together with the Program Director, UWC’s monthly and quarterly reports for submission to the Mastercard Foundation;
  8. Coordinate the submission of annual academic progress reports of Mastercard Foundation Scholars in liaison with their supervisors;
  9. Identify resources and develop processes for improving Scholars’performance;
  10. Respond to all enquiries pertaining to postgraduate academic matters from Mastercard Foundation Scholars and relevant stakeholders;
  11. Serve as a conduit between Mastercard Foundation Scholars and their supervisors prior to their arrival at UWC and while at the University;
  12. Participate in the annual on-boarding programme for new postgraduate Mastercard Foundation Scholars at UWC;
  13. Ensure the smooth running of academic administrative services that support the postgraduate Mastercard Foundation Scholars at UWC;

 
Minimum Requirements (Qualification and Experience)
  1. A research-based Master’s degree in a related field at an NQF level 9 or an equivalent qualification.
  2. Knowledge and experience of relevant academic administration processes.
  3. Proven work experience in higher education with evidence of working with students to achieve academic success.
 
The undermentioned attributes would be added advantage: 
  1. Knowledge and experience of research administration management processes (RAMS).
  2. Knowledge and experience of participating in the management of programmes that involve postgraduate students.

Accountable to the Program Director: Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program and reporting to the Program Director and Director: Research Development and Postgraduate Studies Office, the responsibilities of the Coordinator: Recruitment and Liaison Postgraduate Studies will include:
  1. Undertake the annual recruitment of Mastercard Foundation Scholars; conduct in-person and virtual information sessions to promote the scholarship opportunity offered by the Scholars Program;
  2. Develop the Program’s resource base for the recruitment of postgraduate Mastercard Foundation Scholars (eg application guidelines for Mastercard Foundation Scholars, annual call for applications etc);
  3. Monitor all submitted applications, verify applicant’s eligibility and track application status quo via the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program application portal;
  4. Annually review, together with the Program Director, recruitment numbers and if necessary revise targets for the next academic year;
  5. Source information on the approved UWC academic programmes of study for the Scholars Program and on programme admission requirements and make these available to potential Mastercard Foundation Scholarship applicants using the available systems and platforms;
  6. Respond to recruitment and admission related queries from prospective Mastercard Foundation Scholarship applicants using email, third-party platforms etc;
  7. Liaise with the Research and Postgraduate Office, the faculties and academic departments through the Deputy Deans for Postgraduate Studies to facilitate the processing of applications for admission of Mastercard Foundation scholarship recipients;
  8. Collate and maintain recruitment data/statistics of postgraduate Scholars on the Program;
  9. Regularly monitor and evaluate recruitment processes to inform decision making within the Program related to adjustments and realignments of recruitment strategies;
  10. Proactively seek opportunities to expand the network of recruitment partners for the Scholars Program, especially from regions outside South Africa;
  11. Compile, together with the Program Director, UWC’s monthly and quarterly the postgraduate recruitment and liaison reports for submission to the Mastercard Foundation.
 
Minimum Requirements (Qualification and Experience)
  1. A relevant Bachelor’s Degree at an NQF 7 or an equivalent qualification.
  2. At least 5 years’ relevant experience preferably in a higher education/research institution.
  3. Computer Literacy: MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Access/Database, Internet, email.

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at UWC invites applications for the post of Office Administrator. The Office Administrator will coordinate, oversee and perform a wide variety of administrative and support activities on behalf of the Program Director. The Office Administrator serves as a primary point of operational and administrative contact for internal and external constituencies, often on complex and confidential issues.

Reporting to the Program Director: Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, the Office Administrator’s responsibilities will include but will not be limited to the following:
  1. Liaise on behalf of the Program Director with internal and external stakeholders
  2. Provide reception duties including as a first line reception regarding queries from staff, students, and external stakeholders
  3. Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence and documents between the Director and stakeholders
  4. Respond to in-person and telephonic enquiries and manage the generic e-mail inbox of Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at UWC
  5. Liaise efficiently with external vendors and other parties as and when required
  6. Organise all logistics related to meetings, including coordinating of meeting invitations in calendars and follow up on attendance, compiling and distributing the relevant agendas and notices, minute taking and distribution of meeting minutes and reports as directed to meeting participants
  7. Manage the Director’s calendar/diary and ensure that it is appropriately organised
  8. Lead the project management of events planned by the Office of the Director such as workshops and seminars, including sourcing of venues, catering, vendors
  9. Organise travel and accommodation logistics for the Program Director and other relevant Program Management Office staff in accordance with university policies and procedures
  10. Coordinate and process all procurement activities, payments, acquisition of assets, etc. within the Program Management Office
  11. Develop and maintain files and record keeping systems for the Office of the Director
  12. Capture data efficiently as required, to ensure the smooth functioning of general administrative processes of the Office of the Director
  13. To perform any ad-hoc administrative tasks as delegated by the Director

The role of the Human Resources Department is to support the University’s People Strategy, which presents challenging people deliverables about change and transformation projects and strategies. Transformational leadership is required from all at the University, and the role of HR is both to enable and facilitate processes for continuous improvement.
 
This position reports to the Director: Rewards, Benefits & Payroll and requires a budget accounting specialist with sound knowledge of management accounting principles and experience in people cost budget management and will be responsible for inter alia:
  1. Ensuring that UWC manages staff costs within the budget parameters (i.e. analysing and reporting on cost against budget on a monthly basis); 
  2. Ensuring the correct allocation of costs to the correct cost entity by performing people cost reconciliations and preparing reallocation journals;
  3. Liaising with relevant stakeholders in a monthly monitoring process to enable tracking of staff cost expenditure; 
  4. Reporting on budget variances and highlighting areas of potential over-expenditure, etc.; 
  5. Maintaining the organisation post structure, within the payroll system, pertaining to post creation, changes and deletions; 
  6. Reviewing the financial component of people plans to clear posts in line with approved budgets; 
  7. Preparing & submitting recommendations supported by calculations on budget management impact of policy change, job evaluation, annual salary increase and ad hoc adjustment impacts;
  8. Preparation of quarterly forecasts for submission to Finance;
  9. Participating in the improvement of systems and processes as it relates to budget management.
 
Minimum Requirements

To qualify you will need:
  1. Honours degree in Accounting/Finance or related specialist discipline; 
  2. At least five years’ relevant payroll accounting, management accounting, budgeting and forecasting experience;
  3. Advanced proficiency in the MS Office Suite (especially Excel).
 
Added advantage:
  1. Relevant working experience gained in a tertiary educational environment in South Africa;
  2. Accreditation by the South African Rewards Association / Certified Payroll Practitioner (SAPA) designation / SARA professional designation or an alternative accounting/payroll professional qualification;
  3. Demonstrable experience of relevant payroll systems such as ITS, SAP, PeopleSoft.
