Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas
The Department of Occupational Therapy in the Faculty of Community & Health Sciences has a growing reputation as a leading educational provider for both undergraduate and postgraduate professional Occupational Therapy programmes. The Faculty of Community and Health Sciences is seeking to permanently appoint a Lecturer within the Department of Occupational Therapy.
Key Performance Areas
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key responsibilities:
• Teaching and learning at an undergraduate level.
• The candidate’s teaching responsibility will include teaching specifically in the field of Neurology and Occupational Therapy Practice.
• Involvement in general clinical supervision.
• Supervision of final year level research projects.
• Participation in research programmes, curriculum development and staff development.
• Developing industry and academic partnerships.
• Engaging in community engagement related activities.
• Responsible for administrative duties within the department, faculty and the university.
Minimum Requirements
• A Masters degree in Occupational Therapy or related fields.
• Registration with the HPCSA as an Occupational Therapist (Independent Practice Category).
• Experience in teaching and clinical supervision.
• Evidence of research output in the form of a research publication (s) in accredited journals.
Added advantages
• The ideal candidate for this position should be a highly-motivated person registered or progressing towards the completion of a PhD.
• Completion of any post graduate certification related to the Occupational Therapy Management of Neurological conditions.
• Proficiency in two or more South African languages.
• Experience in research supervision.
• A valid driver’s licence.
• Evidence of contextual sensitivity and community engagement.
Please note that this position is part of the Joint Establishment, which refers to a formal collaborative agreement between the University and the Provincial Health Department.
The appointed individual will be expected to engage in both academic responsibilities and service delivery, as per the collaborative agreement with the Provincial Health Department. This includes contributing to the clinical service delivery component, in line with the requirements of the service delivery model.
Submission of a copy of your registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) is a necessity.
