The successful candidate will join a dynamic and supportive Faculty dedicated to teaching and research, as well as to overall student development. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and willing to make a significant contribution to the development of the Faculty. The post requires the incumbent to develop, grow and drive Sport Science/Biokinetics related initiatives at UWC that are nationally and internationally recognised. The department offers the following accredited programmes: Bachelor of Arts in Sport, Recreation and Exercise Science, Bachelor of Science in Sport and Exercise Science, Bachelor of Arts Honours in Sport and Exercise Science (with Sport Conditioning, and Community Health Promotion through Sport options), Bachelor of Science Honours in Biokinetics, Bachelor of Arts Honours in Biokinetics, Master of Arts in Biokinetics, Master of Science in Biokinetics, Master of Arts in Sport, Recreation and Exercise Science, Doctor of Philosophy.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key responsibilities:
• Facilitate learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the SRES department.
• Conduct research and publish in the field of Sport Sciences/Biokinetics.
• Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate supervision.
• Supervision of research projects.
• Participation in research programmes, curriculum development and staff development.
• Engaging in community-related activities.
• Responsible for administrative duties within the department/unit, faculty and the university.
Minimum Requirements
• PhD in Biokinetics.
• Experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
• A track record of quality peer reviewed publications in the field of Sports Sciences and Biokinetics.
• Full registration with the HPCSA in biokinetics.
• Full registration with the Biokinetics Association of South Africa (BASA).
• Postgraduate research supervision experience (Honours or Masters supervision).
• Evidence of peer reviewed publications.
Added advantages
• Proficiency in two or more South African languages.
• Experience in research supervision at a PhD level.
• A valid driver’s license.
• Evidence of community engagement in diverse contexts.
• At least three (3) years’ experience in a higher education institution.

Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas
The University of the Western Cape is one of Africa’s most dynamic institutions, with a growing reputation for building South Africa’s talent pool and for excellence in research. The position is held within the department of Legal Services, reporting to the Proctor.
The successful incumbent will be responsible for:
Contract Administration:
- Develop, review, and negotiate various agreements (grants, research contracts, confidentiality agreements, service agreements, licensing agreements)
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and identify potential contractual risks and draft solutions addressing the risks
- Safeguard the university's interests in contracts and ensure that contracts align with University policies and general regulatory requirements
- Investigate and prosecute student disciplinary cases
- Represent the university in tribunals and appeals
- Facilitate training sessions for staff and students on disciplinary policies and procedures
- Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure fair and effective disciplinary processes
- Manage disciplinary cases from initiation to resolution, including:
- Drafting all necessary administrative documents (notices, charges, hearing schedules)
- Coordinating and conducting investigations
- Preparing evidence and witness statements
- Conducting disciplinary hearings
- Drafting and issuing findings and sanctions
- Handling appeals and reviewing decisions
- Offer expert advice to university departments on student discipline, contract law, POPIA compliance, and other legal matters
- Monitor legislative updates and ensure internal policies align with regulatory changes
- Provide strategic guidance on high-profile cases
- Draft, review, and revise internal policies to reflect changes in legislation and institutional needs
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders (SAPS, NPA, DHET, USAf, Higher Health) to ensure policy consistency
- Streamline policy implementation through process development
- Design and deliver training programs for staff, students, and administrators on contract management, disciplinary procedures, compliance and research related contracts.
Minimum Requirements
The appointment requires a highly organised and self-motivated candidate who is:
• In possession of an LLB or similar legal qualification;
• At least 3 years’ experience in legal practice as a practising attorney or practising advocate;
• Proficiency in any of the Nguni languages would be advantageous.
