Through its pursuit of excellence in teaching, research and community service, the Faculty of Dentistry is committed to promoting and transforming oral health services in South Africa. The Faculty plays an active role in producing graduates of the highest standards for oral health delivery and has gained international recognition through its community-based and professional approach to education.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified, experienced and dynamic candidates for appointment to the post of Administrator: Dean’s Office.
Reporting to the Dean, the successful incumbent will be responsible for creating and maintaining an effective and efficient working climate. As the Dean’s Administrator, it will be expected of the successful candidate to ensure coordination between UWC and affiliated stakeholders including PGWC, HPCSA, NHLS, SAMRC, and the National Departments of Health and Education. Experience engaging with these stakeholders would be advantageous.
 
Key Responsibilities will include:
  • Act as Personal Assistant to the Dean,,
  • Office co-ordination and diary management,
  • Handling of office correspondence,
  • Internal and external client liaison,
  • Liaising across the joint platform,
  • Budget administration including budget control and procurement, 
  • Travel arrangements,
  • Events administration and coordinating workshops, team-building exercises and training interventions,
  • Developing and maintaining systems to support information management and preparation for meetings,
  • Ensuring an efficient filing system,
  • Committee administration, including agendas, minutes and reports,
  • HR administration as it relates to the Dean,
  • Performing any other administrative duties as may be assigned by the Dean.
 
Minimum Requirements
  • Matric / Grade 12 and at least a post-matric qualification at NQF level 6,
  • A minimum of 5 years relevant work experience in a similar secretarial/personal assistant position,
  • Computer literacy, including full MS Office suite,
  • Working knowledge and experience of a Financial Administration tool (e.g. InforLN).
 
The following would be advantageous:
  • A degree,
  • Candidates who worked in a similar secretarial/personal assistant position at a higher education institution.

  • Demonstrated communication (written and oral), organizational and interpersonal skills,
  • High degree of professionalism, 
  • Accuracy and attention to detail,
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and without supervision,
  • High degree of confidentiality,

The Faculty of Dentistry is a world-class Oral Health Centre committed to the promotion of oral health through excellence of its Learning and Teaching, Service rendering and Research. The Faculty seeks professionally qualified candidates for a post of Lecturer/Oral Hygienist in Oral Medicine and Periodontology on the conditions of service of the University of the Western Cape.
 
Responsibilities will include:
  • Teaching and training on the clinical platform i.e. Appropriate training, supervision and general teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students,
  • Clinical teaching of undergraduate students,
  • Rendering services to patients at all platforms & locations,
  • Active participation in research and publications,
  • Administrative duties related to the post,
  • Participation in Faculty Outreach programmes.

Minimum Requirements


Appointment to this position requires a Bachelor of Oral Health as well as the below-mentioned academic requirements, and a minimum of 3 years’ work experience as an Oral Hygienist. Valid registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) is a prerequisite. Experience in learning and teaching, at a tertiary institution. A Master’s degree is a minimum requirement.

The following will serve as a strong recommendation in being considered for appointment to this level:
  • Publications,
  • Teaching experience, 
  • Ability to work in a team,
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills,
  • Language proficiency in at least two of the three official languages in the Western Cape.
 
The following would enhance an application (at each of the above levels):
  • Proficiency in the treatment and management of oral diseases in line with the scope of practice of the Oral Hygienist, including knowledge of recent trends in patient management,
  • Ability to work in a team,
  • Good interpersonal, communication and organizational skills,
  • Proficiency in computer skills,
  • A valid driver’s license.

The Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that educates the students across academic units including Accounting, Economics, Industrial Psychology (Human Resources Management), Information Systems, Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS), Institute for Social Development, Political Studies, School of Business & Finance, School of Government (including Public Administration) and the Academic Literacies Programme. 
The Department of Accounting has accreditation with the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA). The Department offers a three-year undergraduate degree and a one-year Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA) towards SAICA’s Initial Test of Competence (ITC). The Department also offers an alternative three-year degree in Accounting, which is accredited by the South African Institute of Professional Accountants (SAIPA).
 
The successful candidate for Lecturer in the MAF will be responsible for the following key performance areas:
  • Facilitate learning and teaching at undergraduate level, primarily in the area of  Management Accounting & Financial  Management
  • Provide academic administration 
  • Conduct research and publish
  • Undertake curriculum development and assessment
  • Participate in community engagement and outreach

Minimum Requirements


  • CA (SA) qualification 
 
Additional Advantages:
  • A relevant Master’s degree in one of the core disciplines, namely MAF, Taxation, Financial Accounting or Auditing.
  • At least a year’s experience in facilitating learning, in the field of Management Accounting & Financial  Management

FACULTY OF ARTS AND HUMANITIES
The University of the Western Cape (UWC) is a vibrant, diverse and dynamic university, rooted in the African continent with an increasing global reach. UWC actively responds in critical and creative ways to the development needs of the country, within an ever-changing and challenging global context.
The Desmond Tutu Centre for Religion and Social Justice, housed within the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, develops and advances transdisciplinary research in a number of thematic focus areas such as gender, sexuality, politics, education and ecology. The Centre provides a critical thinking and research space for postgraduate students, visiting scholars and postdoctoral research fellows and also hosts regular seminars, public lectures and supervision cohort workshops. The African Journal of Gender and Religion is housed in the Centre.
The Centre seeks to appoint a Senior Lecturer/Researcher who will contribute to research, teaching and supervision in one or more of the Centre’s thematic focus areas.
 
The successful candidate for Senior Lecturer/Senior Researcher will be expected to:
  • Lead and participate in high-impact research projects that advance knowledge in the fields of religion and social justice, with a special focus on the intersections of religion with education and race (black liberation theology)
  • Contribute to trans-disciplinary research collaborations within and beyond the Centre, that are specifically related to education and black liberation theology
  • Produce high-quality scholarly publications, including articles, books, and other forms of academic output, to disseminate research findings to academic and broader audiences
  • Successfully fundraise for research and community engagement programmes
  • Recruit, mentor and supervise postgraduate students as well as organise and participate in the Centre's cohort model of supervision
  • Develop, organise and manage public seminars, lectures and workshops
  • Engage with local and global communities, organizations, and stakeholders to promote advocacy and action on issues related to religion and social justice.
  • Support the management of the in-house journal, the African Journal of Gender and Religion
  • Serve on a range of Faculty and university committees
  • Contribute to University-wide initiatives in support of the University's Institutional Operating Plan
  • Integration of community engagement and outreach
 
Minimum Requirements
  • Doctoral degree in Religious Studies, Sociology of Religion, Education, or a closely related field.
  • Evidence of successful Honours or Master’s supervision (at least 2 successfully completed)
  • At least 4 publications in accredited journals or equivalent recognised outputs
  • Conference papers delivered
  • Experience in teaching courses in religion, education and race
 
Advantage/Preference would be:
  • Experience in organising and/or facilitating academic events.
