We wish to appoint a Lecturer in the Department of English—a person willing to contribute in significant and innovative ways to teaching, research, and overall student development. The successful candidate should have a strong foundation in Literary Studies in English with an appreciation of the historical development of forms. Strengths in one or more of the following would be added advantages:
- Course coordination and curriculum design.
- World Literatures in English.
- Creative Practice.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key responsibility areas:
- Contributing to the learning and teaching programme at undergraduate and postgraduate levels (teaching effectively in large undergraduate lectures, smaller tutorial groups, and in postgraduate seminar contexts).
- Leading undergraduate workshops in academic writing and literary topics related to the main lecture series.
- Supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate research projects.
- Development of a research and publication profile.
- Active participation in departmental academic administration.
- Integration of community engagement with learning and teaching and/or research.
Minimum Requirements
- A Master’s degree in English Literature.
- A strong foundation in Literatures in English.
- Demonstrable experience and strengths in teaching literary texts (including in large lecture contexts) - evidence of innovative teaching practice at UG level.
- A research and publication record commensurate with the level of a University Lecturer - (at least one publication in an accredited journal).
- A completed PhD or a PhD nearing completion in Literatures in English.
- Experience in academic leadership and departmental administration (including course coordination and curriculum design).
- Proven research, teaching, and supervision interests and competence in World Literatures in English, and/or Creative Practice.

The Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics is seeking to employ an experienced academic at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor in Applied Mathematics, specifically in the areas of Mathematical Biology and/or Computational Finance. The Department plays a vital role in a research-intensive university, focusing on both Pure and Applied Mathematics research, as well as teaching mathematics in the Faculty of Natural Sciences and providing undergraduate service courses throughout the university. The ideal candidate is expected to bring significant experience, expertise, and enthusiasm to this role.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key responsibility areas:
- Facilitate learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics.
- Conduct research and publish in Applied Mathematics, in particular, Mathematical Biology and/or Computational Finance.
- Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate supervision.
- Provide academic leadership and administration.
- Undertake curriculum development and assessment.
- Undertake community engagement and outreach.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum Requirements – Professor:

The Department of Infrastructure & Engineering seeks to employ a skilled, knowledgeable and resourceful individual to coordinate services on a diverse range of construction projects. The position will suit someone with strong planning and monitoring skills, who is energetic and pro-active, and who is committed to delivering projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary project point of liaison for internal and external stakeholders
- Oversee and co-ordinate the activities and services of external consultants and contractors
- Assume responsibility for all project planning and administration
- Monitor and track project progress against plan (Time, Cost, Scope and Quality) and implement corrections as necessary
- Ensure regulatory compliance
- Ensure an orderly and comprehensive project close out process
- Monitor project quality and resolve non-conformance items
- Monitor service deliverables and sign off on receipt
- Manage building and campus access
- Monitor and report on project risks
- Plan, coordinate and integrate the activities of internal resources
- Compile and distribute meeting minutes and regular project progress reports
- Provide a document management service, including a technical library for each project
- Arrange and administer all professional services (internal and external)
- Draft communications and notices for publication
Minimum Requirements
- National Diploma in a Built Environment Discipline (BTech degree would be an advantage)
- 3-5 years’ experience in the construction or building industry
- Valid drivers’ license (2 years driving experience)
- Proven track record on small to medium scale projects
- Superior planning and organisational skills
- Strong computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Office and construction software
- Good knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental regulations
- Good knowledge of building regulations and standards ISO Standards/SABS/ASIB
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to work under pressure with adherence to deadlines
- Knowledge of the functioning of the Higher Education sector would be advantageous

The University seeks a skilled, resourceful and dynamic individual to manage a diverse set of infrastructure-related projects, which vary in scope, complexity and cost. This position requires knowledge in multiple technical areas, problem resolution skills, with sound decision-making and troubleshooting skills.
The post reports to the Director: Infrastructure and Engineering, and assumes responsibility for:
- Delivering UWC projects in a manner that is consistent, reliable, disciplined, cost-effective and compliant with UWC policies and requirements
- Applying appropriate, reliable and standardised methodologies to the planning and delivery of projects and project records
- Overall Project reporting, program level planning, project scheduling, risk management, project financial, stakeholder management, safety management, and quality management
- Management of an in-house project office, and multiple consultant teams
- Policy design and business support
- Standardisation of specifications and design
- Effective and efficient business process design and implementation
- Procurement and management of service level agreements, including budgetary and quality assurance
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelors degree (NQF Level 7) in Architecture/Building/Construction/Project Management
- 5 years’ experience in general built infrastructure, with at least 3 years supervisory experience
- Good computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Office and CAD systems
- Valid drivers’ license
- Proven track record in project planning, execution, quality assurance and cost control
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of contract law
- Strong planning and organisational skills
- Good knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental regulations
- Good knowledge of building regulations and standards ISO Standards/SABS/ASIB

The Department of Medical Biosciences is comprised of the three interrelated disciplines of Physiology, Anatomy, and Medical Microbiology. Housed within the Faculty of Science, the Department offers service courses to the Faculties of Dentistry, Community and Health Sciences, and the School of Pharmacy at the undergraduate level and across Faculties at the postgraduate level.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key responsibility areas:
- Facilitate learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Medical Microbiology with emphasis on Immunology, infections of different organ systems, and oral microbial infections in particular.
- Conduct research and publish in the fields related to Microbiology and/or Immunology.
- Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate supervision.
- Provide academic leadership.
- Undertake curriculum development and assessment
- Participate in community engagement and outreach.
- Joining and/or driving the research vision of the Department through an active research programme including an ability to raise research funding and supervise Honours, Masters, and Doctoral students.
- Play a role in the administrative activities of the Department, Faculty, and the university.
- Fulfil any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department
