The School of Nursing in the Faculty of Community and Health Sciences has a growing reputation as a leading educational provider for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The Faculty of Community and Health Sciences is seeking to permanently appoint a Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer within the School of Nursing. 
Please note that this vacancy is an appointment with the Department of Health and the University of the Western Cape. The successful appointment is under the service and employment conditions of the University.
 
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key responsibility areas:
•    Teaching and learning at an undergraduate and postgraduate diploma level.
•    Supervision of Masters level research if he/she holds a PhD.
•    Participate in research programmes,
•    Develop industry and academic partnerships. 
•    Engage in community outreach. 
•    Responsible for administrative duties within the department, faculty and the university.
 
Minimum Requirements


At the level of Senior Lecturer
•    PhD in Nursing 
•    Master’s degree in in Nursing or a Master's in a related Health discipline.
•    Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse / Midwife / Community Health Nurse/Psychiatric Nurse.
•    Experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. 
•    Postgraduate research supervision experience.
•    Evidence of peer reviewed publications.
•    Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Nurse Educator.

At the level of Lecturer
•    Master's in Nursing or a Master's in a related Health discipline.
•    Experience in teaching.
•    Evidence of publication output.
•    Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse / Midwife / Community Health Nurse/Psychiatric Nurse.
•    Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Nurse Educator.
 
An added advantage:
•    The ideal candidate for the post as lecturer in this position should be a highly-motivated person progressing or registered for a PhD in Nursing (lecturer).
•    Experience in clinical supervision (lecturer).
•    An additional qualification in a clinical speciality and/or Health Services Management for both senior lecturer and lecturer.

Minimum Requirements


At the level of Professor

• A track record of successful postgraduate supervision.
• Evidence of expertise, national standing, and definite international presence in his/her discipline.
• Experience in generating research grants.
• More than five (5) years’ experience in a higher education institution and evidence of leadership experience.
• Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse / Midwife / Community Health Nurse / Psychiatric Nurse.

At the level of Associate Professor
• PHD or equivalent, preferably in the field of Nursing.

Minimum Requirements


For the post of Senior Lecturer, the following minimum requirements shall apply
  • PhD relevant to Resource Geology/GIS/Digital Earth Sciences
  • Demonstrated knowledge of resource geology, GIS, and other relevant digital techniques
  • Proven record of teaching in the relevant field commensurate with level of appointment
  • Demonstrated experience of successful postgraduate research supervision.
  • Proven record of securing research funding from external sources
  • A track record of publications in international peer-reviewed accredited journals in the relevant field commensurate with level of appointment
  • Experience in departmental academic governance and curriculum development would be an advantage
For the post of Lecturer, the following minimum requirements shall apply:
  • MSc degree relevant or related to Resource Geology/GIS/Digital Earth Sciences
  • Registered for a PhD with a clear plan for completion
  • Experience in teaching undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses in resource geology and GIS
  • Evidence of producing relevant high-quality peer-reviewed -accredited conference proceedings and/or publications.

The Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies in the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences at the University of the Western Cape is an internationally recognised centre of research excellence. PLAAS conducts research, provides training and supervision, and pursues policy and community engagement, to advance just, equitable and sustainable access to land, fisheries and other natural resources. PLAAS offers training at postgraduate level only, through a Post-Graduate Diploma, Masters and PhD, as well as short courses. PLAAS currently has 18 staff. All posts except three Professors are supported by donor-funded projects. 
We seek a Professor / Associate Professor to join our team. This permanent post is an established Professorial position within the EMS Faculty. The position of Professor offers a unique opportunity for an established academic with a high profile, to dedicate their energy and expertise to drive the core activities of PLAAS, a large part of which relates to the development of research, and to contribute to the success and sustainability of the Institute. Preferred candidates will have specialist knowledge in social ecology, and work in the fields of climate change and/or food systems, and bring with them existing international networks and research partnerships.

This permanent position is an established Professorial position within the School of Government and affords the successful candidate the opportunity of the Directorship of the School for a 5-year term.
 
The position of Director offers a unique opportunity for an established academic with a high profile, someone who is energetic and motivated to drive the development of the school as a centre of academic and professional excellence. 
 
Key performance areas – Professor/Associate Professor:
  • Conduct research and publish in the broad field of land and agrarian studies, rural development and natural resource governance

Minimum Requirements
  • A PhD or NQF equivalent in a relevant discipline (e.g. sociology, anthropology, geography, environmental science, development studies, politics, economics) from a reputable university 
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning and teaching
  • Extensive experience of social science research on topics relevant to the core focus of PLAAS 
  • A demonstrated capacity for fundraising from international philanthropic foundations
  • Extensive experience and proven competence in academic leadership and management 
  • An excellent track record of accredited peer-reviewed publications 
  • A track record of successful postgraduate training and supervision 
  • Evidence of the integration of community engagement for societal impact with learning and teaching and/or research
  • Evidence of expertise and national standing in his/her discipline (as well as definite international presence at Full Professorship level)
