The Department of Occupational Therapy in the Faculty of Community & Health Sciences has a growing reputation as a leading educational provider for both undergraduate and postgraduate professional Occupational Therapy programmes. It has a long history of focusing on promoting equity and community development in its education and training of professionals and is involved in partnerships with service providers and communities in urban, as well as rural areas within South Africa and other African countries. The post requires the incumbent to develop, grow and drive Occupational Therapy related initiatives at UWC that are nationally and internationally recognised. The department offers the following accredited programmes: Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy, Master of Science in Occupational Therapy and Doctor of Philosophy.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key performance areas:
• Facilitate learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the Department of Occupational Therapy.
• Conduct research and publish in the field of Occupational Therapy.
• Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate supervision.
• Undertake curriculum development and assessment.
• Undertake community engagement and outreach.
• Provide academic leadership and administration.
• Responsible for application and securing research grants and/or third-stream income.
Minimum Requirements
At the level of Associate Professor
• PhD in Occupational Therapy or related field.
• Demonstrated experience in teaching and/or clinical supervision particularly in the field of Mental health and Psychiatry.
• A track record of quality peer reviewed publications in the field of Occupational Therapy.
• A record of successful Masters supervision and evidence of at least current PhD supervision.
• Evidence of expertise, national standing, and where appropriate, an international presence in his/her discipline.
• Full registration with the HPCSA in the category independent practice (Occupational Therapy).
• Evidence of the integration of community engagement for societal impact with learning and teaching and/or research.
• More than three (3) years’ experience in a higher education institution and evidence of leadership experience.
Added advantage
• A valid driver’s license.
• NRF rating.
• Proficiency in two or more South African languages.
At the level of Senior Lecturer
• PhD in Occupational Therapy or related field.
• Demonstrated experience in teaching and/or clinical supervision particularly in the field of Mental health and Psychiatry.
• A track record of quality peer reviewed publications in the field of Occupational Therapy.
• Full registration with the HPCSA in the category independent practice (Occupational Therapy).
• Evidence of community engagement in diverse contexts.
• Postgraduate research supervision experience (Masters supervision).
Added advantages
• Proficiency in two or more South African languages.
• Experience in research supervision at a PhD level.
• A valid driver’s license.
• At least three (3) years’ experience in a higher education institution.

Please note that this position is part of the Joint Establishment, which refers to a formal collaborative agreement between the University and the Provincial Health Department.
The appointed individual will be expected to engage in both academic responsibilities and service delivery, as per the collaborative agreement with the Provincial Health Department. This includes contributing to the clinical service delivery component, in line with the requirements of the service delivery model.

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and willing to make a significant contribution to the development of the Faculty.
The Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that educates students across academic units including Accounting, Economics, Industrial Psychology (Human Resources Management), Information Systems, Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS), Institute for Social Development, Political Studies, Management and Finance Clusters, School of Government and the Academic Literacies Programme.
The Department of Accounting has accreditation with the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA). The Department offers a three-year undergraduate degree and a one-year Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA) towards SAICA’s Initial Assessment of Competence (IAC). The Department also offers an alternative three-year degree in Accounting, which is accredited by the South African Institute of Professional Accountants (SAIPA).
Key Performance Areas:
- Facilitating learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level, primarily in the area of Auditing and Accounting Information Systems.
- Assist with the integration of digital acumen into the core disciplines of the accounting programme, namely Auditing, Cost Accounting and Financial Management, Financial Accounting and Taxation.
- Provide academic leadership and administration at subject level.
- Undertake curriculum development and assessment.
- Engage in academic administration.
- Conduct research and publish
- Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate supervision
- Participate in community engagement and outreach
- Contribute to the co-ordination and management of the Department’s teaching and research programmes.
Minimum Requirements
- CA (SA) qualification and a relevant Master’s degree
- Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning and teaching in Auditing and Accounting Information systems or related courses
- A record of publications, preferably in the field of Auditing and Accounting Information Systems
- A PhD in the field of Auditing and Accounting Information systems or related field.
- Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning and teaching on SAICA accredited Auditing and Accounting Information Systems or related courses .
- A record of successfully supervising postgraduate students at Honours and Masters level
- Recognized academic leadership (e.g. subject head, programme coordinator, module coordinator)
- Extensive practical experience in the development of professional academic courses and programmes in Auditing and Accounting Information Systems or related courses (e.g. SAICA or an equivalent accreditation).
Key Competencies:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Proven ability to work as a senior member of a professional department within a Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences.
- Presentation and facilitation skills.

- Computer literacy and e-learning skills
- Strong MS Excel skills, which specifically include the demonstrated use of PivotTables and the automation of routine tasks using Macros and VBA.

Experiential learning has been a key approach to achieving this objective. The Faculty launched its Small Business Clinic in July 2024, a significant indicator of the university’s commitment to preparing graduates for opportunities in Entrepreneurship. The successful candidate will assume primary responsibility for activities of the Small Business Clinic and will report to the Dean of the Faculty, with a dotted reporting line to the Departmental Chairperson for the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship (DME). He/She will also assume a teaching and supervision load through his/her affiliation with the DME.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key performance areas:
- Identifying and pursuing networks and partnerships with relevant stakeholders
- Identifying and pursuing funding opportunities to support the activities of the Small Business Clinic
- Managing and overseeing all activities of the Small Business Clinic
- Managing staff in the Small Business Clinic
- Writing reports on activities of the Clinic
- Reporting to the Dean on matters related to the Clinic
- Facilitating learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Entrepreneurship related modules
- Conducting research and publishing in Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development
- Undertaking undergraduate and postgraduate supervision
- Undertaking curriculum development and assessment
- Participating in community engagement and outreach
Minimum Requirements
- Doctoral qualification or equivalent
- Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning, preferably in the field of Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development
- A record of publications, preferably in the field of Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development
- A record of successful supervision at Honours and Masters level
- Demonstrated competence in community engagement
- Demonstrated competence in generating third stream income (including research grants)
- Experience in academic leadership and management
