Purpose of the Position
To provide ethical, strategic, and technologically informed leadership in ensuring a safe, secure, and resilient University environment. The Director will oversee the development and implementation of the University’s Protection and Resilience Strategy, manage key relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and ensure effective oversight of outsourced guarding services provided by UIGC (Pty) Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Venda.
 
Key Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Strategic and Policy Leadership – Develop, implement, and review the University’s Protection and Security Strategy and related policies, and advise executive management on emerging threats, risks, and compliance requirements.
  2. Operational Oversight – Direct campus protection, investigations, and access control functions, while monitoring and evaluating the performance of UIGC (Pty) Ltd against contractual KPIs and service-level agreements.
  3. Technology and Innovation – Lead the deployment of smart surveillance, access control systems, AI-assisted analytics, and data-driven incident management tools to enhance campus safety.
  4. Emergency and Crisis Management – Lead the University’s crisis response, disaster management, and emergency preparedness planning, including regular drills and multi-stakeholder coordination.
  5. Stakeholder and Community Relations – Build and sustain strong partnerships with SAPS, local municipalities, traditional leaders, and community policing forums, and promote a culture of safety awareness across campus.
