Duties and Responsibilities:
•    Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering and/or Computer Engineering Science.
•    Supervise honours students and co-supervise master's students in Computer Science, Information Systems and/or Data Science.
•    Perform research in at least one of the established research areas of the Department, namely Business Intelligence and Text Mining, Computer Science Education, Eye­ tracking Applications, Human-Computer Interaction and Extended Reality, and Digital Inclusion and Community Engagement in IT.
•    Publish research outputs in accredited national peer-reviewed journals.
•    Contribute to curriculum development in the department.
•    Participate in community engagement activities.
 
Inherent Job Requirements:
•    A PhD on NQF Level 10 in Computer Science/Data Science/Computer Engineering Science/Electrical Engineering with research focus on computer science/a closely related field (for a permanent appointment) or
•    Master’s degree on NQF Level 9 in Computer Science/Data Science/Computer Engineering Science/ Electrical Engineering with research focus on computer science/a closely related field (contract appointment: five years during which a PhD on NQF Level 10 in Computer Science/Data Science/Computer Engineering Science/Electrical Engineering with research focus on computer science/a closely related field MUST be obtained to be converted to a permanent position). 
•    Experience in teaching undergraduate programming modules, specifically first-year C# programming, with exposure to engineering contexts.
•    Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
•    Evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication in accredited journals.
•    A good academic record (attach a copy).

Description
The University of the Free State (UFS) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for a postdoctoral fellowship in the School of Pathology, Division of Virology. Candidates interested in pursuing an academic or professional career in infectious disease research, or translational protein science, with a special focus on viral immunopathogenesis, antibody/protein engineering, and diagnostic development are encouraged to apply. 
The fellowship will enable an outstanding doctoral graduate to obtain experience in research and innovation at a higher education institution under the mentorship of established researchers and in collaboration with international partners.
The fellowship is awarded on a competitive basis, taking into account the applicants’ academic achievements, publication outputs, and research potential, as well as the relevance of prior experience and expertise. The fellowship is available for a period of one year, renewable for up to three years subject to satisfactory performance.
 
Duties and responsibilities:
•    Conduct innovative research in the following areas: protein design and expression, development and implementation of immunological and cell-based assays, experimental work in BSL-2 or BSL-3 environments, analysis of clinical and experimental data in infectious disease research, and in translational  protein science and diagnostics.
•    Author/co-author at least three (3) publication outputs per year in the form of DHET-accredited scholarly journal articles or book chapters. Renewal of the fellowship beyond the first year depends on satisfactory performance and the submission of an annual progress report.
•    Initiate projects and actively seek external funding opportunities.
•    Register and reside as a postdoctoral research fellow at the UFS and participate in relevant activities of the Centre for Graduate Support and the Directorate of Research.
•    Contribute to the academic environment through mentorship of postgraduate students and participation in school’s activities.
 
Eligibility requirements:
•    Open to all South African and foreign nationals for full-time research at the University of the Free State. 
•    Graduated with a PhD degree in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology/Immunology/ Virology/Microbiology or a closely related field within the last five years.
•    Successful applicants may not hold full-time salaried employment during the fellowship.
•    Successful applicants must be able to relocate to the UFS for the duration of the fellowship. This is a residential fellowship: the successful applicant is required to spend 80% of her/his postdoctoral period at the UFS.

•    R 300 000 annual fellowship.

•    Experience as external examiner for postgraduate students.

•    Proven experience in the presentation of research papers at national and international conferences, where there is evidence of peer review of papers.
•    Acted as an editorial board member of high-quality national scholarly journals.
•    Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research leadership in a specific scientific area of scholarship.
•    An NRF rating of C3 or equivalent status.
•    Proven experience in the supervision of graduated master’s and doctoral degree students.
