Duties and responsibilities:
Executing and provisioning of legal services and Office Administration 
•    Perform administrative tasks related to the provision of legal services.
•    Provide legal services in line with services offered by the Law Clinic.
•    Report to management structures within the UFS Law Clinic and Faculty of Law.
•    Collegiality and teamwork.
Provision of leadership, supervision and training to Candidate Attorneys 
•    Facilitate and assist the training of candidate attorneys.
Community Engagement & Research 
•    Implement, facilitate and monitor community engagement programmes/projects at the UFS Law Clinic.
•    Perform administrative tasks related to community engagement.
•    Active involvement in research activities of the UFS Law Clinic.
Student Teaching & Training 
•    Contribute to academic coordination.
•    Perform administrative tasks related to student teaching at the UFS Law Clinic.
•    Facilitate the implementation of community-based learning programmes/projects for undergraduate law students at the UFS Law Clinic.
•    Provide consultation sessions for undergraduate law students.
•    Facilitate and assist the training of undergraduate law students.
 
Inherent requirements:
•    An LLB Degree on NQF Level 8.
•    An admitted and practising attorney of the High Court of South Africa (attach a letter of Good Standing from the Legal Practice Council).
•    Minimum two (2)  years’ relevant working experience related to the duties and responsibilities.
 
Recommendations:
•    One (1) year of relevant experience in a Law Clinic and higher education environment. 
•    Enrolled for postgraduate studies in human rights. 
•    Knowledge of civil litigation, student training and moot courts.
•    Knowledge of the Rules of the Magistrates Court and the uniform Rules of Court.
•    Knowledge of Clinical Legal Education.

Duties and responsibilities:
Office Administration 

•    Provide administrative duties and serve the office reception/messenger service.
•    Manage the diaries of Candidate Legal Practitioners, Legal Practitioners and Director of the Law Clinic, which includes setting up meetings, etc. 
•    Deal with general administration, including telephone calls, typing, receiving, and dispatching of faxes, emails, correspondence, reports and schedules.
•    Assist other staff members within the Law Clinic as and when required, taking messages and making phone calls.
•    Assist students with queries regarding marks, venues, etc. 
•    Book venues for events, meetings, and scholarly engagements, among other things. 
•    Assist with key Law Clinic projects such as Moot Courts.
•    Identify, monitor, report and follow up on maintenance that needs to be done at the Law Clinic.
•    Collection and distribution of documents from the Faculty of Law and other internal departments. 
•    Serve and represent the Law Clinic within community service-learning programmes and any function required. 
•    Any other administrative duties as assigned by the Director, Law Clinic. 
General Financial Administration 
•    Obtain and appraise quotes and process orders for all Law Clinic requirements.
•    Keep records of all purchases and ensure that there are sufficient funds before purchasing items.
•    Receive, purchase and issue out stationery and keep records.
•    Process invoices and other payments relating to purchases, renewal of subscriptions/membership fees, subsistence and travel, etc.
Client Support 
•    Liaise with entities / organisation/s and government departments relating to the Law Clinic mandate and work.
•    Schedule appointments and prioritise urgent and high-impact matters.
•    Ensure punctual attendance to clients and diarizing.
•    Timeous responses to client enquiries and escalations.

Duties and responsibilities:

Description
The University of the Free State (UFS) invites applications from qualified candidates for a postdoctoral fellowship in News Translation in the Department of Linguistics and Language Practice.
 
The fellowship is linked to a competitive research grant obtained from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and the South African National Research Foundation (NRF). The project, “South-North flows of information through translation in the global news agency AFP” is led by Dr Marlie van Rooyen from the UFS and Prof Lucile Davier from the University of Geneva. The UFS postdoctoral fellow will be based in Bloemfontein and supervised by Dr Van Rooyen. 
 
The fellowship will enable an outstanding doctoral graduate to obtain experience in research and innovation at a higher education institution under the mentorship of established researchers. The fellowship is awarded on a competitive basis, considering the applicants' academic achievements and research potential, as well as the relevance of prior experience and expertise. The fellowship is available for a period of two years (2025–2026). 
 
Duties and responsibilities:
•    Conduct innovative research as part of a research team.
•    Travel to conduct fieldwork and collect data from two news agency bureaux on the African continent and the African desk of Agence France Presse (AFP) in Paris.
•    Prepare conference papers and present at international conferences.
•    Author/co-author at least one (1) publication output per year in the form of DHET–accredited scholarly journal articles or books/chapters in books. The renewal of the fellowship beyond the first year depends on satisfactory performance and the submission of an annual progress report.
•    Register and reside as a postdoctoral research fellow at the UFS and participate in relevant activities of the Department of Linguistics and Language Practice at the UFS. 
 
Competencies
Eligibility criteria
•    Completed postgraduate qualification(s) from a Historically Disadvantaged University in South Africa.
•    Graduated with a PhD degree in a relevant discipline within the last five years. Relevant disciplines: Translation Studies with research focused on the translation of news; or any other related discipline with research focused on news and language.
•    May not hold full-time salaried employment during the fellowship.
•    Must be able to relocate to the UFS for the duration of the fellowship. This is a residential fellowship: the successful applicant is required to spend 80% of her/his postdoctoral period at the UFS.
•    Have a strong socio-political knowledge of Africa.
•    Fluent in at least English and French.
•    Prior experience in presenting research papers at conferences and/or seminars.
•    Authored/co-authored academic publications.
