Duties and responsibilities:
In consultation with the Academic Head of Political Studies and Governance undertake the following:
•    The design and redesign the curriculum by involving all relevant stakeholders.
•    Develop new learning programmes in consultation with industry and other stakeholders.
•    Frequent and continues development and management of the operational plan of the Programmes.
•    Provide general leadership in the Programmes and ensure academic coherence across all various modules of the programmes.
•    Responsible for Financial Management (annual budgeting, financial planning, allocation of funds, and financial control), and deployment of the resources needed for maximum benefit to the delivery of the programmes.
•    Motivate and lead employees in the Programmes to achieve transformation within the Programmes and the institution.
•    Ensure that the activities of the Programmes are undertaken in accordance with the governance, policy and regulatory frameworks of the University.
•    Provide top-quality, research-informed facilitation of learning to ensure practise-based learning and improvement.
•    Assume responsibility for the academic quality of the programmes.
•    Manage curriculation processes of the programmes.
•    Manage academic administration.
•    Monitor and manage quality assurance of technology and innovation activities in the Programmes.
•    Implement applicable governance, policy and regulatory frameworks of the University.
•    Scholarship of high quality and specialised expertise.
•    Provide teaching and learning to students.
•    Conduct own research.
•    Provide academic advice in terms of academic inquiries, amendments of year books, schedules, timetables, etc.
•    Implement applicable governance, policy and regulatory frameworks of the University.
•    Serves on the marketing committee of the faculty as necessary.
•    Compilation of an annual marketing plan and budget, and planning of the implementation thereof in cooperation with the support services concerned.
•    Advertise the programmes in an appropriate manner.
•    Compilation of marketing pamphlets or any suitable marketing material.
•    Involve in the introduction of the programmes at road shows and open days.
•    Liaison with authorities from practice, the professions, the private sector, etc. for the purpose of needs assessment and correlation of subject content with professional precepts.
 
Inherent Job Requirements:
​​​​​​​•    PhD degree on NQF Level 10 in Political Studies / Governance and Political Transformation or related field. 
•    Any full-time, permanent member of the academic staff of the Department of Political Studies and Governance at the University of the Free State (UFS).
 
Recommendations:

Software Development and Management

•    Implement the complete software development lifecycle (SDLC) process, ensuring efficient project management, effective communication, and timely execution of development tasks.

Description
The Office of the Dean at the Faculty of Law, University of the Free State invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for postdoctoral fellowships. Candidates interested in pursuing an academic career oriented to human rights in general and disability rights in particular and whose research relates to human rights and their relationship with transformation are encouraged to apply.
 
The fellowship will enable outstanding doctoral graduates to obtain experience in research and innovation at a higher education institution under the mentorship of established researchers. The successful candidate will be required to conduct innovative interdisciplinary research and produce publications on any aspect of disability rights, human rights and transformation.
 
The fellowship is awarded on a competitive basis, taking into account the applicants’ academic achievements, publication outputs, and research potential, as well as the relevance of prior experience and expertise. Particular weight will be attached to the extent to which applicants' medium-term research planning, their research focus, and their proposed research projects engage the theme of disability rights, inclusion and transformation, in particular in the areas of poverty and access to basic resources such as land, housing, food, water, education and healthcare; and political and democracy-related rights. The fellowship is available for a period of one year, renewable for up to three years subject to satisfactory performance.
 
Duties and responsibilities:
•    Assist the disability rights unity in terms of research, administration and other tasks.
•    Work in collaboration with the dean’s office when it comes to research, administration and other tasks.
•    Conduct interdisciplinary research on the relationship between disability rights, human rights and transformation.
•    Collaborate around shared interdisciplinary themes related to disability rights, institutionally, nationally, and internationally.
•    Assist in postgraduate supervision.
•    Participate in teaching in the faculty.
•    Author/co-author at least 3 publication outputs per year in the form of DHET-accredited scholarly journal articles or books/chapters in books.
•    Register and reside as a postdoctoral research fellow at the UFS and participate in relevant activities of the Faculty, the Free State Centre for Human Rights, the School of Postgraduate Studies and the Directorate of Research Development.
•    Prepare and present papers during seminars and other research events.
 
Eligibility Criteria: 
•    Open to all South Africans and foreign nationals for full-time research at the University of the Free State (UFS). 
•    Graduated with a doctoral degree in human rights in general and disability rights in particular within the last five years. 
•    Successful applicants may not hold full-time salaried employment during the fellowship. 
•    Successful applicants must be able to relocate to the UFS for the duration of the fellowship. This is a residential fellowship thus the successful applicant is required to spend 80% of her/his post-doctoral period at the UFS.

•    Identify and address risks proactively to minimize environmental risks for the UFS.
•    Identify and ensure compliance with applicable environmental laws and regulations to minimize project delays and mitigate legal risks.

Duties and responsibilities:
•    Offer programme design and development support and design to academics through consultation, training and relevant resources in developing the programmes and modules of the university
•    Screen all proposals of programmes to ensure that the programmes follow strategic direction in terms of responding to the labour market needs/trends and realising the vision, mission, strategic goals and PQM of the University.
•    Screen the content and design of programmes to ensure effective alignment of the programmes and modules to the institution’s teaching and learning, assessment and quality assurance policies and strategies.
•    Screen programme and modules for effectively alignment to the Higher Education Qualification Sub-Framework (HEQSF), other higher education frameworks and policies, accreditation standards and requirements of relevant authorities (CHE, DHET, SAQA and professional bodies).
•    Ensure that the delivery of the programmes ensure appropriate teaching and learning and assessment strategies for on-campus, remote and HyFlex (Hybrid-Flexible) modes of delivery.
•    Analyse programme proposals to ensure that the programmes meet appropriate requirements of curriculum design credibility, and that the curriculum is appropriately designed in consistence with the intended learning experiences, outcomes and competencies.
•    Provide professional support and guidance through consultation, training and relevant resources to academics and relevant support services personnel on the implementation of quality assurance processes, procedures and monitoring provisions.
•    Participate in planning and facilitating quality reviews, module/teaching evaluations, and other quality assurance initiatives.
•    Establish a quality management system, including policies, processes, procedures, and guidelines for HyFlex teaching, learning, and assessment.
•    Develop, review and implement relevant policies, guidelines and standard operating procedures to ensure appropriate handling of programme data and information.
•     Facilitate programme information and data platforms of the Academic Planning Unit of DIRAP.
•    Conduct audits on the PQM and associated platforms to ensure accuracy of the information and data of the programmes continually.
•    Verify programme information and data for processing according to the different systems and needs of stakeholders of the University.
•    Plan, promote, coordinate and facilitate various academic planning and quality assurance related special projects and events.
•    Write and review academic planning and quality related programme proposals/applications, reports and other documentation/submissions to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency with accreditation and/or other relevant requirements. prior to submission to the relevant university structures.
•    Engage in self-directed professional reading, professional liaison with colleagues, and other professional development interventions to remain competent and abreast with the developments in higher education academic planning and quality assurance practice.
•    Fulfil all responsibilities regarding performance management.
 
Inherent Job Requirements:
•    Honours degree/ Postgraduate Diploma on NQF Level 8 in Higher Education, Curriculum Studies, Educational Technologies or related field. 
•    A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in curriculum practice, instructional design or academic planning and quality assurance within a Higher Education environment.    
 
Recommendations:
•    Master’s Degree on NQF Level 9 is an added advantage.
•    Research and academic support experience in the areas of curriculum development and implementation
