Duties and responsibilities
•    Take responsibility with the Dean to ensure the achievement of the mission of all faculty-based programmes and initiatives. 
•     Lead the faculty's Teaching and Learning (T&L) portfolio by guiding T&L policies, teaching approaches, digitalization, and innovation in the field to ensure the smooth running of all T&L activities. 
•    Guide strategic and visionary T&L matters such as course and curriculum development, teaching innovation and hybrid teaching methodologies. 
•    Ensure that the General Rules and Regulations of the UFS and Education rules related to the academic programs are adhered to, updated where needed, and communicated to all staff in Education.
•    Liaise with top management through the Dean, especially the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Academic, CTL, SAS, and DIRAP. 
•    Continuously look for new T&L needs from the related market, students, and government.
•    Take responsibility with the T&L Manager of Education for leading the T&L committee and all initiatives in the field of T&L. 
•    Attend all UFS T&L-related meetings, formal and informal. 
•    Ensure the application of the quality assurance framework to all T&L matters in the different departments. 
•    Spearhead curriculum renewal and innovation in the faculty. 
•    Coordinate the initiation of short learning programmes.
 
Inherent Job Requirements
​​​​​​​​​​​​​​•    A Doctoral degree on NQF Level 10, within a discipline of Education. 
•    A minimum of five (5) years’ experience on management level. 
•    Proven experience in forming networks and linkages between the UFS and industry. 
•    Proven experience in supervision of master’s and doctoral students.
•    Proven evidence of publishing in peer-reviewed journals. 
•    Must be appointed as Associate Professor or full Professor in the faculty.
•    Proven experience in the leadership of Teaching and Learning, such as curriculum development, design and renewal, and assessment.

Duties and responsibilities:
•    Oversee the scheduling and functioning and of all basic nursing skills in the laboratory and the high-tech simulation nursing laboratory for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
•    Prepare students for simulation through annual orientation and by communicating the simulation outcomes and instructions.

•    Ensure supervision of students in the lab, maintaining safe practices and abiding by all established policies and procedures for the laboratory.
•    Contribute to the evaluation of students during skills and simulation activities as well as on other occasions by request.
•    Responsible for assisting with data collection for scholarly work related to simulation and technology in teaching and learning.
•    Provide simulation training and practice for lecturers and new staff members where necessary.
•    Administration functions regarding management of equipment, stock, statistics, research documentation, maintenance and reporting breakages.
•    Ensure that all equipment is maintained in good working order.
•    Provide feedback to students during simulation debriefing.
•    Provide remedial psychomotor and cognitive support to students referred by lecturers.
•    Conducts nursing skills demonstrations as requested by lecturers in the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
•    Attend meetings, in-services, and other nursing school events as scheduled.
•    Maintain appropriate inventory of supplies, linen and equipment for each laboratory and foster use of same in an economically responsible manner.
•    Assist with compiling policies and guidelines for simulation and assure fulfilment of the standards of the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
•    Document and keep records of all simulation activities including but not limited to participation by student nurses, lecturers, preceptors, hospital staff and recordings of simulation events.
•    Maintain a policies and procedures manual for the laboratory.
•    Maintain supervised scheduled laboratory hours as necessary to serve day, evening, and weekend student schedules.
•    Assist with pre-and post-simulation activities.
•    Ensure the tidiness of the simulation laboratory.
•    Provide inputs regarding the acquisition of teaching technology and simulation tools for budget purposes and liaise with suppliers.
•    Utilize research and literature findings to integrate best practices into the laboratory instruction.
•    Manage simulation footage in a confidential and safe manner.

Inherent Job requirements:
•    A Professional Bachelor’s degree on NQF Level 8 or bachelor’s degree on NQF Level 7 or Diploma on NQF Level 6 in Nursing.
•    Postgraduate qualification in any of the following specialities: Emergency Care /Critical Care Nursing/ Clinical Nursing Science, Health Assessment, Treatment and Care/  Advanced Medical and Surgical Nursing Science.
•    Postgraduate qualification in Nursing Education.
•    Current Professional registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Nurse (General, Community, Psychiatric) and Midwifery
•    A minimum of five (5) years' experience in nursing practice (post-community service).

Description
The University of the Free State (UFS) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Sustainable Food Systems and Development. Candidates interested in pursuing an academic or professional career in (research) the transformation of food systems through smart agro-processing are encouraged to apply. The theme of the research chair is "Innovative Agro-processing for Climate-smart Food Systems", with a particular research interest in the nixtamalization of maize and sorghum.
 
Innovative agro-processing technologies could transform the food system and increase food security. However, it depends on the consumer's willingness to adopt and embrace new products and techniques. Innovations in new product development must be consumer-led and market-orientated to truly impact and transform communities in the face of climate change.
 
The fellowship will enable an outstanding doctoral graduate to lead innovative research projects, as well as research dissemination (scientific publications, conference presentations) as part of the ARC/UFS Chair in the Department of Sustainable Food Systems under the mentorship of Dr Alba du Toit (UFS), Prof. Wilna Oldewage (UFS), Prof. Johan van Niekerk (UFS) and Dr Sonja Venter (ARC). 
 
The fellowship shall be awarded competitively, considering the applicant's academic achievements, publication outputs and research potential, and the relevance of prior experience and expertise. The fellowship is available for one year renewable for up to three years, subject to satisfactory performance. 
 
Duties and responsibilities:
•    Design, initiate, lead and implement a project that benefits predominantly women from low-income, rural communities or emerging farmers.
•    Supervise PhD, Masters and honours students to collaborate with the project, assist in the research design, ethical clearance, proposals and implementation of research projects, and preparing theses/dissertations.
•    Investigate, identify, draft and submit funding proposals.
•    Conduct quantitative and qualitative consumer-led research that involves innovative product development, sensory evaluation, farmer and consumer training and other strategic intervention strategies.
•    Analyse data statistically to demonstrate patterns, trends and relationships.
•    Author/co-author at least three (3) publication outputs per year in the form of DHET-accredited scholarly journal articles or books/chapters in books. 
•    Assist in lecturing under and post-graduate modules and offering support to students through mentoring, coaching, advising and motivating.
•    Participate in international and national conferences, presenting original research through oral and poster presentations.
•    Register and reside as a postdoctoral research fellow at the UFS and participate in relevant activities of the Centre for Graduate Support and the Directorate of Research.
•    Prepare and submit an annual progress report. The renewal of the fellowship beyond the first year depends on satisfactory performance, as evidenced in the annual progress report.

Eligibility criteria
•    Open to all South African and foreign nationals for full-time research at the University if the Free State. 
•    Graduated with a PhD degree in a relevant discipline within the last five years.
•    Successful applicants may not hold full-time salaried employment during the fellowship.
•    Successful applicants must be able to relocate to the UFS for the duration of the fellowship. This is a residential fellowship: the successful applicant is required to spend 80% of her/his postdoctoral period at the UFS.

Duties and responsibilities: 
•    Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in isiZulu.

Inherent requirements:
Lecturer

•    A PhD with specialisation in isiZulu language and literature on NQF Level 10 (for a permanent appointment) 
or
•    Master’s degree with specialisation in isiZulu language and literature on NQF Level 9 (contract appointment: five years during which a PhD with specialisation in isiZulu language and literature on NQF Level 10  MUST be obtained to be converted to a permanent position). 
•    Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
•    Evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication in accredited journals.
•    A good academic record.
 
Recommendations:
•    A PhD with specialisation in isiZulu language and literature on NQF Level 10.
•    Experience in postgraduate supervision.

Description
The UFS QwaQwa Campus is the second largest of the three sites of delivery of the University of the Free State (UFS). It is located in Phuthaditjhaba in the Eastern Free State and is surrounded by the picturesque sandstone Maluti Mountains. The campus has experienced rapid growth in enrolment in the past five years, with a parallel increase in its research focus. The widening focus requires an energetic academic and research leader to help the University achieve its Vision 130 through the University’s Strategic Plan.
 
The successful candidate will report directly to the campus principal and will liaise closely with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Academic, Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research and Internationalisation, Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Institutional Change, Strategic Partnership and Societal Change, relevant deans, the registrar and the Centre of Teaching and Learning. He/she will be a member of the Senate, among various other committees on which she/he will be expected to serve.

Inherent Job requirements
•    A doctorate (NQF Level 10).

•    A minimum of five years’ middle management experience in academic and research management.
•    A credible research record that allows the UFS to consider the preferred candidate to be appointed at least as an associate professor. Candidates already on the professoriate level will be required to have these evaluated in terms of UFS criteria.
