Duties and responsibilities:
• Act in accordance with the scope of practice and ethical guidelines for a registered counsellor as set out by the HPCSA/ ASCHP.
• Provide psychotherapy and counselling regarding personal, social, emotional and career development as well as trauma-related incidents.
• Identify, diagnose, and treat serious psychological problems and refer to other professionals when the need arises.
• Liaise with Student Counselling and Development, management, student affairs, faculties, academic departments, support services and student representatives.
• Conduct Psychometric assessments and provide Career Counselling for students.
• Perform psychological screening and first-level interventions aimed at enhancing students functioning.
• Design and present developmental workshops and programmes for students.
• Market SCD services within campus-context.
• Responsible for office management, diary management and administration.
• Participate in the Division of Student Affairs strategic goals and objectives.
• Continuous Professional Development and Training.
Inherent Job requirements:
• Bachelor Honours degree on NQF Level 8 or Professional Bachelor’s degree on NQF Level 7 in psychology (BPsych).
• Registration as a Registered Counsellor with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and/ or with the Association for Supportive Counsellors and Holistic Practitioners (ASCHP) for at least 1 year.
• A minimum of two (2) years relevant experience in a higher education environment or in working with young adults.
Recommendations:
• One (1) to two (2) years’ relevant experience within a counselling setting in a higher education environment.
• Proven experience in providing career counselling to young adults.
• Proven experience in providing trauma counselling to young adults.

• Actively do research in a relevant sub-field/s of practical and missional theology.
• Synthesize knowledge through the publication of scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals.
• Communicate research findings at scientific conferences.
• Source funding for research from international and national funding organisations.
• Participate actively in the professional community.
• Supervise postgraduate students at Honours, master’s and PhD levels.
• Participate actively in leadership and administration at the departmental and faculty levels.
• Participate in various scholarly engagement opportunities at research, community engagement, or in-service learning levels.
Inherent Job Requirements:
Lecturer
• A PhD in Theology on NQF Level 10 (for a permanent appointment).
or
• Master’s degree in theology on NQF Level 9 (contract appointment: five years during which a PhD in Theology on NQF Level 10 MUST be obtained to be converted to a permanent position).
• Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
• Evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication in accredited journals.
• A good academic record.
Senior Lecturer
• A PhD in Theology on NQF Level 10.
• Proven experience in the presentation of papers/posters at national scholarly conferences.
• Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research in a specific area of scholarship.
• An NRF rating or demonstrated potential for obtaining an NRF rating.
• Proven experience in the supervision of graduated master’s degree students.
• A proven research record of relevant publication/s in peer-reviewed national and international accredited scientific journals.
• Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society committee, or agency concerned with research at higher education levels.
Associate Professor
• A PhD in Theology on NQF Level 10.
• Experience as an external examiner for postgraduate students.
• Proven experience in presenting research papers at national conferences, where there is evidence of peer review of papers.
• Acted as an editorial board member of high-quality national scholarly journals.
• Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research leadership in a specific scientific area of scholarship.
• An NRF rating of C3 or equivalent status.
• A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals
• Proven experience in the supervision of graduated master’s degree students.
• Served as a member of a national scholarly society OR a national committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels OR showed evidence of service as an active member of an international equivalent.
Recommendations:
• Preferably a PhD in Practical and Missional Theology.
• Preference is given to experience in empirical and interdisciplinary research.
• Preferably teaching experience in the higher education environment.
• Preferably practical experience in a faith-based environment or with community engagement.
• Have the ability to work in other sub-disciplines (Liturgy and homiletics, congregational and leadership studies, missional studies, faith formation, pastoral and diaconal studies) in practical and missional theology.
