RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will be responsible for: 
  • Lecturing at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level;
  • Supervising postgraduate students at master’s and honours level;
  • Conducting scientific research and publications in the field of Tourism Management;
  • Liaising with students, parents and other stakeholders; and
  • Managing academic departmental events and supervising tutors.
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 
  • A Master’s degree relevant to the field of Tourism Management; and
  • Lecturing experience at tertiary level and/or industry experience.
 
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES): 
  • Appropriate language proficiency as well as appropriate communication skills; 
  • Computer literacy.
 
ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES: 
  • Exposure to the guidance of postgraduate students’ research;
  • Tourism management experience in commerce or industry;
  • Candidates should demonstrate the potential and willingness to obtain a doctoral qualification within a reasonable period after the date of appointment.

  • Develop and implement a strategic vision for the CEJA in collaboration with the Executive Committee;
  • Manage the day-to-day administration of the CEJA;
  • Develop a fundraising strategy for CEJA;
  • Raise funds for the CEJA;
  • Manage the financial administration of the CEJA;
  • Develop a budget and make projections on spending;
  • Manage relationships with donors and other funders;
  • Establish and maintain a network of UP researchers across all 9 faculties and the business school;
  • Establish and maintain a network of institutional partners, academic or thought partners and CBO and NGO partners;
  • Manage the CEJA’s support for strategic litigation and advocacy initiatives;
  • Provide direction for strategic litigation support by the CEJA, including through five-year strategic planning processes and annual updates;
  • Undertake risk assessments of all strategic decisions before committing the CEJA to particular cases of advocacy;
  • Correspond with attorneys and advocates where appropriate;     
  • Ensure written and oral submissions are provided to Parliament and other law-making bodies e.g., South African Law Reform Commission;
  • Ensure written and oral submissions are provided to international treaty bodies;
  • Liaise with government departments on environmental law and policy issues;
  • Oversee research of international and comparative law for purposes of strategic litigation and use in submissions to relevant bodies;
  • Oversee the tracking of the latest developments in environmental law, including case law and legislation;
  • Decide on themes for the CEJA to undertake research on and ensure published outputs of other staff members or consultants, where applicable;
  • Present selected lectures on environmental law at masters level in the Department of Public Law or where invited, also in other Faculties;
  • Supervise dissertation students at undergraduate and postgraduate level when so required.
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 
  • LLM in Environmental Law, Human Rights Law or equivalent;
  • 10 Years’ experience in a similar or higher position; 
  • Proven advocacy record; 
  • Proven record in fundraising and managing donor relations;
  • Managerial/supervision experience;

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Lecturing at undergraduate and postgraduate level;
  • The supervision of postgraduate students;
  • The supervision of industrial psychology internships;
  • Scientific research and publications in the Industrial Psychology and Human Resource Management fields; and
  • Liaising with students and other stakeholders.
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • A doctoral degree with specialisation in the field of Industrial Psychology; 
  • Registered with the HPCSA as an Industrial Psychologist; 
  • At least one accredited journal publications or peer-reviewed scholarly publications (accepted and/or published).
  • Experience in the supervision of postgraduate students; and
  • Lecturing experience.
 
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
  • Appropriate language proficiency and communication skills; and
  • Computer literacy
 
ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
  • Registered member at the South African Board for People Practices; and 
  • Practical experience in commerce or industry.
 
PLEASE NOTE: Shortlisted applicants may be required to do a 10/15 minutes presentation to the selection committee of the department prior to formal interview.
The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.

  • Relevant professional qualification with a relevant Master’s degree or a relevant doctorate;

  • Evidence of successful supervision of Master’s students to completion or relevant industry experience.
 
Associate Professor:
  • A relevant doctorate;
  • Tertiary teaching experience at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level;
  • Established record of publications in accredited journals / other peer-reviewed scholarly outlets;
  • Established record of supervising postgraduate students to completion; 
  • An established national profile and network.
 
COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
  • Appropriate language and communication skills;
  • Digital acumen;
  • Ability to effectively function in a team;
  • Appropriate teaching skills; and
  • Relevant knowledge of research methodologies.
