RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will actively participate in:
- Teaching and practical training of undergraduate and postgraduate veterinary and veterinary nursing students as well as the coursework MSc-students in veterinary microbiology;
- Postgraduate training and supervision where appropriate;
- Service delivery and management of the SANAS laboratory;
- Research and publication in scientific journals;

- Administrative and other duties as delegated by the Head of Department or his/her deputy; and
- Academic self-development.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- BVSc or an equivalent veterinary qualification and a Masters degree or higher in either microbiology, biotechnology, One Health or epidemiology with a bacteriology emphasis;
- Experience working in a veterinary microbiology laboratory;
- Registration as a veterinarian with the South African Veterinary Council, or eligibility for registration/authorisation within a reasonable period; and
- Five or more research-based full papers in an accredited scientific journal as senior author and/or co-author in the last five years.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
- Proven knowledge and competence in veterinary microbiology;
- Research interest appropriate to the position;
- Commitment to develop a teaching and learning portfolio required as required for the teaching level.
- Where applicable, commitment to obtain a PhD in reasonable time;
- Good language and communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills; and
- Generic teaching competence including proficiency with presentation, word processing and spreadsheet software.

- PhD in Veterinary Infectious Diseases or Veterinary Tropical Diseases;
- Tertiary teaching and mentoring experience; and
- Exposure to research in an appropriate field.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will actively participate in the following areas:
- Provide a clinical service with associated administrative responsibilities within several sections of the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital (OVAH) under the mentorship of Faculty Specialists,
- Participate in after-hours work (weekdays and weekends) and/or community clinical activities on a rotational basis for exposure in community, trauma and emergency medicine at the OVAH and/or satellite facilities;
- Participate in the clinical training of undergraduate veterinary and veterinary nursing students, including supervision of clinical procedures as part of offering clinical services;
- Have an opportunity to participate in clinical rounds and other research activities as an introduction to the research requirements of the MMedVet programme; and
- Participate in an intern mentorship programme, designed to support non-clinical development as a prospective specialist.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- BVSc- degree or BVMCh or equivalent professional veterinary qualification;
- Registration as a Veterinarian with the SAVC;
- Acknowledged clinical expertise; and
- Adequate subject knowledge necessary for the post.

Lecturer / Senior Lecturer (full-time position)
Modern organisations cannot function without Information Technology (IT). However, the successful application of technology is, more than just writing computer programs. Computer programs are important, but an understanding of the business within which the organisation functions and an understanding of the use of information and information systems (IS) to support the objectives of the organisation, are just as important. Informatics is a multi-disciplinary subject, where information, IS, and the integration thereof into the organisation, are studied to the benefit of the entire system (individual, organisation and community). The Department of Informatics offers a wide variety of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. Our BCom (Informatics) undergraduate degree was the first degree in Africa to be internationally accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET, see www.abet.org). Research is a high priority for the Department of Informatics and we maintain a high level of research outputs.
Successful candidates should be committed to excellence in undergraduate and / or post graduate teaching, as well as a research output.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
It will be expected of the successful candidates to:
- Teach primarily under-graduate and / or post-graduate modules on the programme focus areas of the Department of Informatics;
- Supervise postgraduate Honours and mini-dissertation Master’s students;
- Publish research articles in conference proceedings and internationally accredited journals;

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Lecturer

- At least three years tertiary education experience or three years industry experience with some involvement in tertiary education;
- At least 2 articles published in DHET accredited journals or a DHET accredited book;
- At least 2 other publication outputs (peer reviewed conference paper(s) / book chapter(s) / industry recognized outputs in a commensurate field;
- Supervision / co-supervision of Master’s students to completion or proven management experience in industry.
