RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will be expected to fulfil the duties of Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor in the Department of Early Childhood Education as described in the minimum requirements. These duties include:
  • Curriculum development of and lecturing of modules in the programme(s) based in the Department;
  • Pursuing research activities such as own research, research-based publications and the supervision of postgraduate students registered in the Department;
  • Developing, presenting and co-ordinating undergraduate and postgraduate courses for pre-service and in-service teachers and other students for contact and distance presentation;
  • Mentoring students for practice teaching/work-integrated learning;
  • Presenting lectures and programmes in an E-learning environment;
  • Experience and expertise in curriculum development for all subjects in Foundation Phase and/or Early Childhood Education 
  • Evidence of involvement in community engagement programmes; 
  • Providing a significant contribution to research outputs, postgraduate teaching and supervision.
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
 
Senior Lecturer 
  • PhD in Education or the related field—with specialisation in mathematics education or natural science and technology or equivalent specialisation fields of Early Childhood and Foundation Phase;   
  • At least three years of teaching experience in Foundation Phase and Early Childhood Education or related field (ages 0-9);
  • Evidence of at least 6-7 publications (Journal, book chapters), of which four should be a mix of international and national publications in accredited journals or equivalent units and one sole-authored publication;
  • Experience and evidence of supervising at least three postgraduate students to completion at Masters level in Foundation Phase and/or Early Childhood Education (ages 0-9);
  • Experience in supervision of teaching practice, work-integrated learning, mentorship, or related programmes.
 
Associate Professor 
  • PhD in Education or the related field—with specialisation in mathematics education or natural science and technology or equivalent specialisation fields of Early Childhood and Foundation Phase;   
  • At least five years of Higher Education Institution teaching experience in Foundation Phase and Early Childhood Education or related field (ages 0-9);
  • Evidence of at least 11 - 13 publications (Journal, book chapters), of which four should be a mix of international and national publications in accredited journals or equivalent units and three sole-authored publications; 
  • Experience and evidence of supervising at least 6 graduates, of which 2 must be PhDs and 1 must be sole supervised;
  • Evidence of collaboration in international research projects and research publications;
  • Standing as an active researcher amongst international peers and evidence of proven research funding;
  • Evidence of membership in professional associations/organisations in the Foundation Phase, Early Childhood Education, and associated fields.
 
Professor (Same as for Associate Professor, plus):
  • At least 8 years teaching experience in a Higher Education Institution or related experience, with emphasis on Foundation Phase and/or Early Childhood Education (ages 0-9) or related fields; 
  • Experience and evidence of Postgraduate supervision; At least 8 students supervised to completion at Master's or Doctoral level. (At least 4 at Doctoral level of which 3 should be sole supervision); 
  •  At least 16-18 publications in a variety of accredited journals, of which five should be in ISI/ IBSS journals and five sole authored;
  • Evidence of collaboration in international research projects and research publications;
  • Proven international standing as an active researcher and evidence of proven research funding success;
  • Evidence of active membership role and leadership positions in professional associations/organisations in the Foundation Phase and/or Early Childhood Education or associated fields.
 
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
 
Senior Lecturer:
  • Knowledge and experience in Early Childhood Development, Early Childhood Care and Education, and Foundation Phase Education or equivalent;
  • Knowledge and experience in health, safety, and nutrition in early childhood care and education;
  • Knowledge and experience in programmes on parenting and care within family and community settings;
  • Appropriate language and communication skills;
  • Ability to apply knowledge and skills in teaching and supervision;
  • Ability to work as an individual and in a team.
 
Associate Professor/ Professor:
  • Knowledge of the following; 
    • South African education system regarding Foundation Phase and/or Early Childhood Education;
    • The different subjects in Foundation Phase and/or Early Childhood Education;
    • Teaching methodologies of the different subjects in the Foundation Phase and/or Early Childhood Education;
  • Appropriate language and communication skills;
  • Ability to apply knowledge and skills in teaching and supervision;
  • Ability to work as an individual and in a team.
 
ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
Senior Lecturer: 
  • Teaching experience at a Higher Education Institution in Early Childhood Development and Child Care; 
  • Knowledge and experience in application of language curriculum and indigenous knowledge systems in Early Childhood Development and Care programmes; 
  • Knowledge and experience in integration of technology in child development and care programmes;
  • PhD in early childhood development and child care studies, or equivalent degree; or Currently registered for a PhD in related programme. 
  • Ability and/or experience in conducting own research, and evidence of research publications;
  • Experience in curriculum development initiatives;
  • Experience of supervision of postgraduate students.
 
Associate Professor/ Professor:
  • Knowledge in the field of mathematics, coding and robotics, natural science and technology, and languages or literacy studies (SA official languages) in the Foundation Phase and/or Early Childhood Education;
  • NRF-rating;
  • Membership of international scholarly bodies.
 
 
The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 
  • A Master’s degree in Psychology;
  • The equivalent of 2 years’ tertiary teaching experience, including block and/or temporary teaching; or relevant professional/industry experience;
  • Evidence of research productivity (e.g. publications in peer-reviewed journals, chapters in peer-reviewed books; published conference papers; or equivalent recognised research output; significant progress in PhD studies).
 
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES)
  • Proven ability to lecture in at least two, but preferably more, of the following areas: introductory psychology, biological psychology, cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, psychological assessment, social psychology, abnormal psychology, developmental psychology, critical psychology, community psychology, research methods.

  • A PhD in Psychology;
  • A research focus aligned with departmental thematic areas;
  • Lecturing experience at tertiary level;
  • Experience in supervising postgraduate research;

The Department seeks an experienced veterinarian to join our team tasked with the application of epidemiological tools and principles to the improvement of livestock health and productivity. The successful applicant will participate in teaching and research in fields related to veterinary epidemiology, and will also participate in production animal teaching and clinical service delivery.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and experiential training in veterinary 
    epidemiology and related fields;
  • Participation in the teaching and practical training of undergraduate veterinary and 
    veterinary nursing students in clinical medicine & herd/flock health and management 
    of production animal species 
  • Participation on a rotational basis in the provision of clinical and herd/flock health 
    services through the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital, surrounding 
    community and satellite clinics, including participation in a 24-hour service;
  • Preparation, presentation and review of course materials;
  • Active participation in departmental research programmes and development of new 
    research programmes;
  • Service rendering to developing communities and continuing education programmes;
    and 
  • Administrative and management tasks as delegated by the Head of Department.
 
Minimum requirements:
Lecturer:
  • A BVSc or equivalent professional veterinary qualification;
  • Registration or eligible for registration with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC) as a Veterinarian;
  • Registered for or committed to acquiring an M-degree within three years of appointment;
  • A minimum of two years recent (within past ~10 years) veterinary clinical experience, including production animals, or one year internship in relevant field;
  • Commitment to develop a teaching and learning portfolio;
  • Strong interest in research and potential to become an established researcher; and
  • Evidence of continued professional development or continued education development.
 
Added advantages and preferences:
  • A Masters degree in a relevant field.
 
Senior Lecturer: 
In addition to the requirements for Lecturer:
  • A Masters degree in epidemiology, production animal medicine, or a related field, and two or more peer-reviewed publications in accredited scientific journals;
  • Registered for a PhD or committed to acquiring a PhD within three years of appointment; and 
  • Teaching experience at undergraduate level.
 
Added advantages and preferences:
  • A PhD in a relevant field
  • SAVC, ACVPM, ECVPH or equivalent registration as diplomate or specialist in veterinary epidemiology or production animal medicine.
 
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
  • Proven knowledge and competence in the field of veterinary epidemiology, with experience in the analysis and interpretation of animal health-related data;
  • Proven knowledge and competence in veterinary clinical work;
  • Good quantitative skills, with experience in the use of one or more statistical software programmes used in veterinary epidemiology;
  • Research interest appropriate to the position;
  • Candidates without a PhD: Commitment to obtain a further postgraduate qualification in reasonable time;
  • Good language, communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills;
  • Generic teaching competence such as communication and presentation, word-processing, spreadsheets and social networking skills;
  • Critical thinking ability.

  • Expertise in one or more specialised fields of epidemiology such as spatial analysis, disease modelling, risk analysis or animal health economics, evidenced by publications in scientific journals;

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The University seeks to appoint an Associate Professor/Professor and Head of Department. The appointment will be additional to the successful candidate’s academic appointment.   • Client relationship management: 
    • Exploring client’s business to provide specialized solutions;
    • Translating the impact of campaigns to clients through post-campaign analysis;
    • Liaising with the University of Pretoria structures when necessary to provide better services and service offerings; 
  • Human Resource management: 
    • Training sales representatives to perform sales duties according to TuksFM’s standards and procedures;
    • Training and mentoring volunteers to execute client campaigns;
    • Acting as liaison between the sales, programming, and production departments.
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Matric; with
  • Three years’ experience in:
    • Sales (preferably in radio sales);
    • Dealing with customers and market dynamics;
    • Networking;
    • Campaign planning and implementation;
OR
  • Three-year national diploma in Marketing/sales/communication/journalism or related; with
  • One years’ experience in;
    • Sales (preferably in radio sales);
    • Dealing with customers and market dynamics;
    • Networking;
    • Campaign planning and implementation.
 
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
  • Knowledge:
    • An understanding of radio and how to play to its strengths for client campaigns;
    • Understanding of different sellable features of radio and digital spaces;
    • Sales principles;

    • Presentation skills;

    • Strategic thinking;
    • Relationship developer/networker;
    • Entrepreneurial spirit;

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
  • Short courses for radio sales and marketing; or
  • Marketing or business-related tertiary qualification; or
  • Degree;
  • Existing client base;
  • Understanding of and experience in the radio landscape;
  • Experience with creating radio campaigns;
  • Valid driver’s license;
  • Own transport.
 
The all-inclusive remuneration package for this contract position will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines.
