DEAN OF FACULTY OF EDUCATION
Organisational Unit University of Mpumalanga -> Teaching and Learning -> Faculty of Education
 
Job Primary Purpose
The primary role of this position is to provide strategic leadership to the Faculty of Education. The Dean will ensure effective management of the faculty and will foster innovation and promote scholarship in teaching and learning, research, and engagement.
 
Key Performance Areas:
  • The provision of strategic leadership to the Faculty and the University.    
  • The management and optimization of all Faculty functions, processes and procedures.    
  • The management, coaching and mentoring of staff.    
  • The achievement and advancement of the Faculty strategic objectives in teaching and learning, research, and engagement.    
  • Personal research and the production of accredited outputs.
  • Engagement.
 
Minimum Requirements:
• A Doctoral qualification in Education
• At least 15 years’ experience as an Academic and Researcher in Higher Education with at least 5 years’ experience in a leadership position such as Head of School, Deputy Dean or equivalent.
• An extensive record of research outputs including papers in accredited national and international journals and presentations at national and international conferences and books and book chapters and conference proceedings.
• A substantial record of postgraduate supervision at Masters’ and Doctoral level with some of these students publishing their research.
• Active participation in and leadership of learned societies.
• Extensive application of disciplinary knowledge and skills to the benefit of the external community.
• A record of leadership in research, teaching and learning and engagement.
• Good understanding of or experience with Department of Higher Education and Training, Council on Higher Education and South African Qualifications Authority accreditation and quality assurance processes.
 
Key Competencies
•    A deep knowledge and understanding of Higher Education in South Africa and elsewhere.
•    A deep knowledge of the discipline in education and of modern trends in teaching and research in education
•    A good understanding of research funding in education.
•    An excellent understanding of the major role players and strategic partners in education nationally and internationally.
