SENIOR LECTURER/ LECTURER IN AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION
Organisational Unit University of Mpumalanga -> Teaching and Learning -> Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Science -> School of Agricultural Science
Job Primary Purpose
The primary role of this position is to provide teaching, research and leadership in Agricultural Extension.
Key Performance Areas:
Senior Lecturer
- Provision of theoretically informed and pedagogically sound teaching of Agricultural Extension.
- Research and the production of accredited research outputs. Postgraduate supervision leading to the graduation of Masters’ students in the minimum time. Well-developed research skills. Evidence of sourcing of external funding or grants for research will be an added advantage.
- Engagement, through which knowledge and skills are used to benefit the discipline/ profession and the community.
- The provision of some leadership at the discipline and School levels.
Lecturer
- Provision of theoretically informed and pedagogically sound teaching of Agricultural Extension.

Minimum Requirements:
Senior Lecturer
- Doctoral qualification Agricultural Extension.
- 5 years of teaching experience at the University level.
- A strong record of research outputs including publication in accredited national and international journals and presentations at national and international conferences.
- A good record of postgraduate supervision at Masters’ level with some of these students publishing their research.
- Participation in learned societies.
- Application of disciplinary/professional knowledge and skills to the benefit of external community.
Lecturer
- Master qualification or progress towards a Doctoral (PhD) qualification in Agricultural Extension.
- Some experience with the facilitation of learning, possibly as a tutor and preferably some teaching experience.
- Some evidence of research activities such as published papers or conference attendance with presentation, which may be associated with postgraduate research.
- Participation in learned societies.
- Some application of disciplinary/professional knowledge and skills to the benefit of external community.
- Sound knowledge of Agricultural sector and registration with relevant Professional association will be an added advantage.
Key Competencies
Senior Lecturer
- In-depth knowledge of the theory and application of the discipline.
- Good understanding of the principles of leadership and management with well-developed leadership and management skills.
- Good interpersonal skills including communication skills.
- Sound understanding of modern theories of teaching and learning in Higher Education and well-developed teaching skills.
- Well-developed research skills.
- Good understanding of the role of Universities in Engagement.
Lecturer
- A sound knowledge of the theory and application of the discipline.
- Good interpersonal skills including communication skills.
- An appreciation of modern theories of teaching and learning in Higher Education and some skills as a tutor.
- Some research skills.
- An understanding of the role of Universities in Engagement.

The primary role of this position is to provide teaching, research and leadership in Agricultural Sciences with strong knowledge of South Africa Agriculture environment, Plant Production, Vegetable Production, Farming Systems, and related disciplines.

- Provision of theoretically informed and pedagogically sound teaching.
- Research and the production of accredited research outputs. Postgraduate supervision leading to graduation. Some evidence of sourcing of external funding for research will be an added advantage.
- Engagement, through which knowledge and skills are used to benefit the discipline/ profession and the community.
- The provision of some leadership at the discipline.
Minimum Requirements:
- Master qualification and preferably a Doctoral (PhD) qualification or progress towards a Doctoral qualification in Plant Production, Agronomy, and Crop Science.
