SENIOR – LECTURER IN PUBLIC HEALTH (HEALTH PROMOTION AND
BEHAVIOURAL STUDIES) - X1 Position
The Department of Public Health at the University of Limpopo is seeking a highly qualified Public Health Specialist who will lead the Health Promotion and Behavioural Studies. The incumbent will provide strategic leadership, academic management, and operational direction to these modules. The appointee will be tasked to ensure the academic integrity, and financial viability of the Master of Public Health and Postgraduate curricula and qualifications. Additionally, and amongst other key functions, he/she will be responsible for coaching, mentoring, and developing the capacity of students in the Department of Public Health and also assist in independent research.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree or Equivalent.
Possession of a doctoral degree (PhD) in Public Health or Equivalent will be an added advantage
At least a minimum of 5 years of teaching experience at a tertiary institution in either the field of Public Health, Health Promotion and/or Behavioural Studies.
Relevant academic management experience coupled with a proven track record in teaching, research and community engagement;
High academic and professional standing in the field of expertise, and high academic credibility amongst peers;
Quantitative and qualitative research methods including statistical analysis
Evidence of recent conference papers presentations, and peer-reviewed publications
Evidence of postgraduate supervision (as main supervisor or co-supervisor)
Strategic planning and implementation experience.
Ability to mobilize and inspire others towards shared goals.
Knowledge of and implementation of quality assurance;
Advanced computer skills (MS Office suite).
Teaching, Supervision and Mentoring of postgraduate students.
Publication of research articles in accredited journals.
Supervision of students' work and co-publication with students.
Participation in community engagement projects.
GENERIC REQUIREMENTS
Advanced theoretical knowledge and insights into the field of Public Health.
Competence in communicating knowledge and facilitating teaching and learning in a lecture, seminar, tutorial and/or assessment practices;

A thorough understanding of fundamental research methodology and competence in facilitating research tutorials/seminars and practical sessions; and/or undertaking research projects, and production of research reports.
A substantial number of conference papers, peer-reviewed publications or other acceptable research outputs.
Peer recognition as a specialist in the field of Public Health and potential to make a substantial contribution to the discipline or field.
Ability to supervise research at the postgraduate level and to develop research capacity.
An involvement in the wider academic community (e.g. editorships, review requests, participation in professional bodies).
Capacity and willingness to undertake administrative responsibilities at departmental or institutional levels and to assume leadership positions, either in administration or in academic or professional activity.
Promotion of and/or active participation in community engagement projects and/or leadership in establishing such projects.

Competence as a Senior Lecturer, demonstrating that the applicant has been recognized by the academic community for producing sound scholarship in either the teaching or research categories, but preferably in both.

Assess the security and functionality of software applications and hardware components.

Qualifications:
B Degree/Diploma in Information Technology/Computer Science/Digital Forensic Investigation or related fields.

Experience:

EXECUTIVE DEAN: FACULTY OF SCIENCE AND AGRICULTURE (FIVE-YEAR CONTRACT APPOINTMENT)
The Executive Dean is responsible for the academic leadership, management and administration of the Faculty in the broad strategic and operational areas of teaching and learning, research and community engagement; and for ensuring that initiatives, interests and needs of the faculty are consistent with the vision, mission, policies and strategic decisions of the University. The Executive Dean also provides leadership and oversight of the human, financial and physical resources of the Faculty.
Requirements:
A PhD or equivalent qualification
An established academic leader, manager and scholar with an excellent research and publication record and proven excellence in teaching and community engagement to attract respect and credibility from within and outside the University.
Eight years of proven academic leadership and managerial experience in a large and complex Faculty/Academic Unit/Centre with diverse staff component.
Sound knowledge of the academic discipline of the Faculty of Science and Agriculture which comprises four schools, namely; School of Agricultural and Environmental Science, School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences, School of Molecular and Life Sciences and the School of Physical and Mineral Sciences.
Strong intellectual, organisational, conflict resolution and interpersonal qualities with the capability to foster interpersonal relationships within the faculty involving staff, students and stakeholders.
Demonstrate sound knowledge and understanding of the South African Higher Education system in terms of regularly legislation, policy, planning and development framework.
Strong commitment to the transformation and development of South African Higher Education and, especially, the enhancement of quality in all three core functions of the University.
