CENTRE FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
(FIVE-YEAR CONTRACT APPOINTMENT)
The Director of the Centre for Academic Excellence (CAE) reports to the Deputy Vice- Chancellor: Teaching and Learning and manages all academic development and support functions at the University. The Director guides the Centre in three main areas: Teaching and Learning Support, Academic Staff Development, and Student Academic Support.
Requirements:
• A relevant doctoral degree.
• Academic standing at Professorship level will serve as a strong recommendation.
• Experience in teaching, academic development and support.
• A minimum of five years' management experience at Higher Education level.
• Understanding of Higher Education debates around teaching and learning development and student support.
• Exposure to and understanding of the project management approach in operationalizing interventions will also serve as an added advantage.
Responsibilities:
• Coordinate the National Benchmark Test.
• Offer support to the office of the Registrar and Executive Deans for applications for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
• Manage the evaluation of Learning and Teaching.
• Manage the Reading and Writing Centre.
• Organise the Supplemental Instruction (SI) programme.
• Promote the scholarship to Teaching and Learning.
• Conceptualise and coordinate activities that promote student academic excellence and graduate throughput.
• Manage the Student referral and support system.
• Manage the Student Mentorship Programme.
• Manage Teaching and Learning Development at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Coordinate the New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP) and other Teaching and Learning development initiatives funded by the Department of Higher Education and Training.
• Co-ordinate and promote staff Teaching and Learning Excellence Awards.
• Lead and coordinate a team of Academic developers.

INFORMATION COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT)
DIRECTOR: ELEARNING AND ACADEMIC COMPUTING SERVICES
(FIVE-YEAR CONTRACT APPOINTMENT)
PURPOSE
The Director: eLearning and Academic Computing Services provides strategic leadership in advancing the University of Limpopo's blended teaching and learning strategy through the effective integration of educational technologies and digital learning platforms. The role is responsible for the strategic management, development, and continuous improvement of the University's Learning Management System (LMS) and associated academic computing infrastructure to ensure a seamless, technology-enabled learning experience.
In addition, the Director oversees the design and delivery of digital skills development programmes for students, staff, and the broader community, fostering digital literacy and inclusion in support of the University's academic and community engagement missions. The role ensures the effective management of the Learning Management System (LMS), smart classroom technologies, and other academic digital platforms to enhance teaching, learning, and assessment. Collaborates with faculty and staff to enhance online education, recommend innovations, and support professional development while serving as the primary contact for online partnerships.
REQUIREMENTS
• A post-graduate qualification (NQF Level 8) in any of the following: Computer Science, Information Systems or related field. A master's degree will be an added advantage.
• A minimum of 10 years professional in ICT and educational technology or online learning management, with at least 3 years at management role.
• Proficiency in using Learning Management Systems (LMS), especially Blackboard, and other related educational technologies such as assessment and proctoring tools.
• Strong understanding of online teaching practices and instructional design principles.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develop and lead the implementation of Learning Management System (LMS) strategies.
• Lead and manage the deployment and integration of smart classroom technologies (e.g., smart interactive boards, lecture capture solutions, digital collaboration tools), ensuring alignment with the blended learning strategy of the University.
• Ensure effective adoption of educational technologies in teaching, learning, and research by promoting faculty and student engagement.
• Ensure alignment of digital technology initiatives with the university's vision for a smart campus by incorporating emerging trends and innovations.
• Spearhead digital skills development programs for students, staff, and community members.
• Build and maintain partnerships with educational technology industry players and government stakeholders.
• Drive research and innovation in digital education to keep the university at the forefront of educational technology advancements.
• Secure funding and grants to support university-led digital inclusion and skills development projects.
• Establish monitoring frameworks to measure the effectiveness of digital learning tools and track learner progress in digital skills programs.
• Lead a team of Learning Management System (LMS) administrators, instructional designers, and digital skills trainers.
• Drive policy development and ensure adherence to best practices in digital education.
• Work closely with ICT infrastructure teams to ensure reliability, security, and scalability of academic computing services.

EXECUTIVE DEAN
Faculty of Science and Agriculture
(Five-year contract appointment)
The Executive Dean is responsible for the academic leadership, management and administration of the Faculty in the broad strategic and operational areas of teaching and learning, research and community engagement; and for ensuring that initiatives, interests and needs of the faculty are consistent with the vision, mission, policies and strategic decisions of the University. The Executive Dean also provides leadership and oversight of the human, financial and physical resources of the Faculty.
Requirements:
A PhD or equivalent qualification
An established academic leader, manager and scholar with an excellent research and publication record and proven excellence in teaching and community engagement to attract respect and credibility from within and outside the University.
Eight years of proven academic leadership and managerial experience in a large and complex Faculty/Academic Unit/Centre with diverse staff component.
Sound knowledge of the academic discipline of the Faculty of Science and Agriculture which comprises four schools, namely, School of Agricultural and Environmental Science, School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences, School of Molecular and Life Sciences and the School of Physical and Mineral Sciences.
Strong intellectual, organisational, conflict resolution and interpersonal qualities with the capability to foster interpersonal relationships within the faculty involving staff, students and stakeholders.
Demonstrate sound knowledge and understanding of the South African Higher Education system in terms of regularly legislation, policy, planning and development framework.
A strong commitment to the transformation and development of South African Higher Education and, especially, the enhancement of quality in all three core functions of the University.
Proven experience in strategic planning, financial and human resources management.
Proven attributes of transparency, integrity and teamwork.
Key Performance Areas:

DEAN: STUDENT AFFAIRS
(Five-year contract appointment)
The University of Limpopo (UL) seeks to recruit a vibrant and astute Dean: Student Affairs who will serve as a member of the Executive Management Committee. The Portfolio is critical in creating a holistic university experience for students by providing support, resources, and opportunities that contribute to students’ personal development and academic success. This Division is responsible for a wide range of services and programmes that contribute to the personal, social, and cultural growth of students. To this end, the University seeks to appoint an exceptionally motivated and energetic leader who will be expected to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for the portfolio in accordance with the University’s Strategic Plan.
Minimum requirements
a. Master’s degree (NQF 9), although a doctoral degree will be an added advantage.
b. At least five years of proven experience in university management, particularly the management of student affairs portfolios.
c. In-depth understanding of current national and international debates around approaches to student life, student conduct and ethics, judicial services, and student governance.
d. Sound knowledge of, insight into, and vision of the Higher Education sector – nationally, regionally, and internationally.
e. Ability to maintain and strengthen relationships with stakeholders and partners, nationally and internationally.
f. Ability to manage the portfolio’s finances and resources effectively and efficiently.
g. The capacity for strategic leadership and operational excellence within the portfolio.
h. Proven resource, strategic and people management skills, exceptional ability and resilience to function under pressure.
i. Proven experience in the development and implementation policies and procedures in the Student Affairs environment.
Terms of appointment:
The position of Dean: Student Affairs, which is subject to a compulsory probation period of 12 months, is a 5-year contract appointment with an executive-level remuneration and benefits package commensurate with experience and qualifications. The appointment may be renewed for a further term of office, subject to performance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Dean: Student Affairs is expected to:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for the portfolio in accordance with the University’s Strategic Plan.
- Provide leadership over the portfolio’s policies and processes to enhance student success, engagement and overall satisfaction.
- Implement initiatives to support the student populations, fostering an inclusive campus culture, and ensure equitable access to educational resources and opportunities.
- Raise the level of student leadership to international standards by creating a learning and caring environment and community where strong, effective, responsible, disciplined, and accountable leadership is developed.
- Enhance strategies linked to the provision of world-class on and off-campus accredited accommodation conducive to the holistic development of young future leaders.
- Ensure effective monitoring and administration of University Owned Student Accommodation facilities, and provide oversight on the accreditation of Privately Owned Student Accommodation
- Provide support to the Student Representative Council (SRC), student organisations, house committees, resident advisors, residence managers, and any other student bodies through training and development or any other assistance required.
- Develop, implement, and support policies and activities to promote student life and governance, student health, wellness, and welfare, as well as student ethics and governance.
- Develop and implement programmes and initiatives to prevent crises and proactively address student needs.
- Ensure high-quality divisional governance, administrative and systems functioning.
- Interact with the Office of the Registrar to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations related to student affairs and campus life.
- Ensure the effective, responsible, and efficient management and utilisation of the division’s finances and resources.
- Establish and nurture collaborative relationships with faculties, staff, students, and external stakeholders, as well as national and international partnerships.
- Oversee and implement innovative staff development and management initiatives, including retention and recruitment.
- Foster a vibrant campus community through the promotion of diversity, inclusion, and student advocacy.
- Lead the creation of systems and processes for addressing student issues and concerns, ensuring effective resolution and improvements to student services.
- Develop and implement holistic health and wellness strategies that support students’ physical, mental, and emotional well-being, ensuring these initiatives align with the University’s overall mission.

Retirement age:
The average retirement age for members of the Executive Management Committee is 65. Consideration will be given to candidates who would be able to serve a 5-year term at the time of appointment and complete the same before the age of 65.
