Job description
  • The School of Nursing & Public Health wishes to appoint academics with relevant experience to strengthen its current focus areas.  
  • It is seeking to appoint academics who will contribute actively to research, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research supervision, contribute to the development and review of both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and curricula and become involved in community outreach activities in line with the College’s vision.
  • The candidates will be required to assist with Discipline administration and may be required to assist with School and College administration.
 
Minimum requirements
For Lecturer:
  • Applicants should have a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • Master’s degree in Nursing Education. 
  • Three years of clinical and/or professional experience post community service
  • Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a General Nurse, Midwife, Nurse Educator, and Nephrology Nurse
  • Evidence of appropriate teaching experience at a tertiary level
  • Computer literacy
  • Valid driver's licence.
 
Added Advantages:
  • An additional qualification in Nephrology Nursing
 
A successful candidate will be expected to complete a PhD within 5 years of the date of  assumption of duty.
 
For Senior Lecturer:
  • Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and a PhD
  • Master’s degree in  Nursing Education.
  • A minimum of three years teaching experience at a tertiary level and curriculum development
  • A minimum of three years clinical and/or professional experience post community service
  • Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a General Nurse, Midwife, Nurse Educator, Nephrology Nurse 
  • Minimum of five publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Evidence of successful  research supervision of postgraduate students at Honours/Masters   level
  • Participation as a team member in a grant or submission of grant application as a principal investigator (PI)
  • Involvement in community engagement programmes
  • Experience working as part of a team.
  • Computer literacy
  • A valid driver’s licence.

Job description

  • Candidates will also be required to perform administrative tasks.
 
Minimum requirements
General Minimum Requirements (for both posts)
  • All applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in Speech Language Therapy
  • A PhD Degree in a relevant discipline
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Speech Language Therapist
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office packages (i.e. Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Minimum of 2 years clinical experience as a Speech Language Therapist.
 
For Appointment at Senior Lecturer
  • Evidence of appropriate teaching experience in a relevant field at the tertiary level
  • A minimum of five (5) publications in peer-reviewed SAPSE-accredited journals
  • A track record of successful supervision of postgraduate students at Master’s and/or PhD levels, appropriate for the level 
  • Demonstrated ability to apply for research grants, either as the Principal Investigator or as a member of a team
 
For appointment at Associate Professor
  • A minimum of eighteen (18) publications in peer-reviewed SAPSE-accredited journals
  • A sustained track record of successful supervision of Masters and/or PhD students in the last five (5) years
  • Evidence of curriculum development
  • Evidence of sustained and successful attraction of research grants from external sources, participating in international research projects and collaborative initiatives 
  • Evidence of providing service in a leadership position/s (academic leader of discipline, programme coordinator/research unit)

Introduction
The Disability Support Unit invites applications from suitably qualified individuals for the post of Sign Language Interpreter. This will be a fixed term contract post on the Pietermaritzburg and Edgewood Campuses.
 
Job description
  • The incumbent(s) would be required to provide sign language services for students attending lectures, to provide support to academic staff as well as support staff, and contribute to the development of academic South African Sign Language under the guidance of the Disability Support Unit.
 
Minimum requirements
  • A 3-year degree or equivalent post-school qualification.
  • Four (4) years’ education interpreting experience (Portfolio of experience to be submitted, including references).
  • SASLI Level 2 or equivalent (NQF 7) qualification – from accredited Higher Education Institution.
 
Please note this is a 2 year fixed term contract.

  • A proven track record in postgraduate supervision
  • A proven track record in the research of infectious diseases, preferably in neglected tropical diseases
