The Discipline of Public Health Medicine (Female Genital Schistosomiasis and Cervical Cancer Project) is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to fill the position of Project Officer for the Dual screening by Spectral Artificial Visual Examination (SAVE) for Female Genital Schistosomiasis (FGS) and Cervical Cancer (referred to as DUALSAVE-FGS) study. The ideal candidate should be a self-starter with a high level of initiative and will have to ensure that the activities implemented by UKZN Project Team for DUALSAVE-FGS are rolled out as needed.  The candidate will primarily be based at the Discipline of Public Health Medicine, at Howard College Campus but be required to work across several districts in KwaZulu-Natal and partner countries.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  
  • Conceptualise and implement a sub-project based on the overall study objectives for the parent study. This sub-study will form part of the Candidate’s PhD 
  • Enrol for a PhD within the first six months of employment contract. 
  • Be on the ground to track and report progress of the project activities at regular intervals.
  • Ensure that collected data are cleaned, analysed and interpreted to produce high quality outputs.
  • Be part of the production of the biannual and annual reports to the funders.
  • Disseminate research results through various platforms (including conferences, workshops, seminars, and research publications) to increase impact.
  • Ensure the timely collection and reporting of quality data to monitoring and evaluation.
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Master’s degree in Public Health/Biomedical Science/Digital health 
  • Readiness to enrol for a PhD within the first six months of employment contract. 
  • Two years of experience in Public Health or fields that can support scalable training for medical doctors and nurses.
  • Experience in quality control and quality assurance activities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Data analysis experience 
  • Knowledge of research methodologies and techniques used in field research.
  • Knowledge of patients’ rights as well as legal & ethical issues in health/ medical research.
  • Valid motor vehicle driver’s licence in South Africa.
 
ADVANTAGES 
  • Experience in working with female genital schistosomiasis and/or cancer patients at a hospital and/ or community level.
  • Master level computer skills
  • Experience in working within a multidisciplinary team. 
  • Experience in working within multinational collaborations.
  • Postgraduate degree in medical education

  • All applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in Audiology;
  • A Master’s degree qualification in the field of Audiology;
  • A PhD in the field of Audiology or equivalent
  • Have a good publication record;
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as an Audiologist
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office packages (especially Excel and PowerPoint);
  • Valid code 08 driver’s license 
  • Minimum of 2 years clinical experience as an Audiologist.
 
Specialization in aural rehabilitation, cochlear implants and AVT training would be an advantage. Experience in student training and research supervision would be an advantage. The post will report to the Academic Leader.

The Accountant assumes responsibility for the financial management of the main fund budget allocation and operational functions provided to the Division. This includes the functional areas of procurement, creditors, and assets. The Accountant ensures the provision of timely information for decision-making while ensuring that all transactions are processed according to applicable University policies, procedures, and legislation.
 
Main responsibilities include: - consultation on and facilitation of financial matters within the Division; management and control of budgets; reporting and control of main fund capital expenditure and asset registers; ensuring best practice and good financial governance.
 
Minimum Requirements:
A relevant 3 (three) year degree with Accounting.
5 (five) years relevant accounting experience of which 2 (two) years should be in a supervisory position, preferably within a higher education environment or public sector.
Ability to interpret cost reports, cash flows, balance sheets, income statements, and analyses in compliance with IFRS.
Fully computer literate, particularly MS Excel and MS Word.
Knowledge of accounting (management and financial), taxation and auditing requirements, and the legal framework governing higher education institution
Short-listed candidates may be required to undertake a skills test.
